Imagine that you're a diehard fighting game enthusiast who's cursed with a love of a conventional controller's directional pad, but also an arcade stick's clicky, satisfying buttons. No controller has ever met your odd, bipolar needs -- until now, that is. Behold: The Frankensteinian peripheral seen above, crafted by modder "rtdzign" from a Sega Saturn control pad and some homemade arcade buttons. You can check out a few more pictures of the mashed-up controller on Shoryuken.
The question that remains is what you'd call this bad boy. An "Arcade Pad?" A "Control Stick?" A "Stick Pad," perhaps? How about "Gorgonth, the Combiner and Destroyer of Worlds?" No, that's a tad wordy.
[Thanks, Keits!]

We can rebuild him. Better, faster, stronger. We have the technology.

The nice thing about arcade sticks is that you wouldn't dare throw one if you get frustrated - it's so much more practical to just bang on them with a closed fist. This looks just light enough to be able to fling across the room in a moment of rage, could cause some serious damage to your loved ones and material possessions.

How do you use it??? You cant hold it in your hand, and you cant use a D-pad with just your index finger...

You have to hold it with both of your hands. You'll use your left thumb on the D-pad, obviously, and then just smash your head against the buttons.

If it bleeds, we can kill it.

While I don't know how someone could play with that hacked up controller... (how do you hold it?) It does remind me of Capcom's SNES Soldier Pad! http://nfgworld.com/mb/thread/417 Which I always used wrong! The idea is to use your fingers to press the buttons instead of your thumb, but I used my thumb!
Now if someone could please hack together a Wiimote with a Thumbstick and a Nunchuck with an 'A' button I'd be all set!

At least the D-Pad is better than the one on the Xbox Controller

Seems incredibly awkward to hold. I'd imagine just rewiring an arcade stick so that the normal joystick port is just a wire that goes out to half a gamepad would work a lot better than trying to wield this beast.

Great to see SEGA back in the hardware business, making shit that won't sell. Can't wait to play Eternal Champions on Sega CD with this!

The only logical way I can see to use that is to place it on the side of a table, so that the dpad hangs over, allowing your hand to fit under it.
The smart thing to do would have been to give the box a few feet of wire, allowing you to hold the dpad on the left hand and place the box on a table.
Slow news day?

@Haelie
Actually, we're missing the obvious solution. The controller should have been placed halfway up the box. Boom, solution.

cmurph,
I sold that one already.
If you are serious, I am making another slimmer one, just waiting for parts, but you have to track me down on shoryuken.com.

Back in the day, my Saturn got more use than everything due to it's amazing ports of the Capcom CPS-2 fighters (X-men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom, etc.). I had a friend who built his own arcade controller for the expressed purpose of playing on my Saturn. It was kind of like this except, you know, had a stick. So I guess, not like this at all.
