I had the first game out of the store AND the first post! It's like a dream come true!

Too bad I still haven't figured out how to play a map I've downloaded online.

Does anyone know how many sales SC1 had through it's life? I'm expecting most people who bought 1 will buy 2.

If that's true, what's the hold up?

With most sequels, where the original had gradual success, the sequel IMMEDIATELY sells a ton. Infact, I can't think of a single time in history where this hasn't been the case.

What are Starcraft fans waiting for?

For this reason, I do not think SC2 will have near the success SC1 had.

@Otimus

I used to be in love with RTSs. Now, though, I'm bored with them. Especially after EA murdered C&C (generals, ironically was my last favorite) They (all devs) simply haven't changed enough and I never got into Starcraft to begin with.

I dunno, I'm pining for a strategy game that offers more tactical punch. Even turn-based strategies lack it. I want something more realistic and not so arcadey. A game that hasn't been invented yet. To my vision at least.

Starcraft 2, despite its polish and pedigree is still much of the same at the end of the day and even though I love PC gaming, I just don't have any interest in playing it.

Even though I hate the new look for DIII I am still looking more forward to that.

According to VGChartz, the original StarCraft, including Brood War, sold 11 million copies.

Sales are usually a refelction of marketing strategy more than quality though. As stereotypical as it sounds, most top selling games are casual titles made by Nintendo. For example, Wii Play* has a meta-score of 5.3, but still sold near 28 million copies, which is heaps and bounds over titles like Modern Warfare 2 and Grand Thefth Auto IV.

*To it's defense, it was bundled with a Wii remote.

The game could have sold all of four copies and Blizzard would still be fine considering the fortune WoW makes.

@Jackba Yeah but WOW is dying, and Cataclysm won't save things. Ppl who tried the beta said it was fun for like ten minutes.. I know I won't be subscribing from too long after leveling my characters to 85 and trying goblin or worgen for a brief while.

@Draco84 I'm pretty sure it is an insane amount like 10 million over lifetime but I need to double check.

I wonder what cut of that Blizzard gets, because retail thats 180mil? Disregarding any region price differenances and conversion rates. Either way, not a bad month.

I played 1 and the 14 day trial of 2. After playing said 14 day trial I decieded against buying it. The single player campaign may have gotten some extensive work, but multiplayer looks like a graphically updated version of 1 with a handful of new units. Might consider it in a few months when it drops from $60, but certainly not worth much more than half of that.

I suppose if that was your decision, you're free to feel that way, but as someone who played StarCraft 1 since its release, I can say that for me, StarCraft 2 was worth every dollar I paid (and probably quite a bit more). I especially like the addition of the co-op vs AI mode; you could do that in the original in a top vs. bottom match, but it was hard to get random people to join in. The co-op vs. AI mode managed to make it very easy to do something that I wanted to do more frequently in the first one. Plus, the AI is much tougher; even medium computers present a pretty decent challenge.

There's a joke about zerg rushing and customers buying copies en masse in there somewhere.

2 questions I cannot get answered for the life of me.

1) I'm getting an Unknown Error when I try to add my facebook friends. Ideas?

2) Is it possible to play offline? I'm a pilot and spent a lot of my time in the air or in hotels.

I'm pretty sure there's a way to play offline. You might have to log in initially if you want to access your saves or something, I'm not sure.

You should probably be paying more attention to the airplane controls than Starcraft II.

Im pretty sure he's got the time to make some other stuff, is not like he's a F1 driver, besides, i know pilots get some time to kill pretty often. As far as i know there's a way to play offline but you wont get any achievements by playing

"...to deliver an overall gameplay experience that was accessible..."

Accessible, (internet to install, no LAN) not really...what's so accessible about it?
