Kinect launching Nov. 18 in Australia, Foxtel TV service in October
23
IGN reports that two big announcements have been made at a Microsoft Open House event in Australia. First and foremost, Kinect will launch in the land down under on November 18. The unit will be bundled with Kinect Adventures for AUD $199 (USD $181). A console bundle with Kinect (presumably the 4GB Xbox bundle we've seen before) will retail for AUD $449 (USD $407).
Furthermore, Foxtel's previously announced premium TV streaming service will launch in October. Pricing details for the service are expected closer to launch, though apparently it will be "fabulously affordable."

You do realize they ship it from China not US. So you are telling me it is cheaper to ship it to US vs Australia?
Microsoft just wants to make $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Our price also includes all taxes, plus obviously the higher cost of shipping a game to a country with a relatively small gaming population. The cost of shipping and distribution has to be divided among a smaller population. Its a similar concept to "buying in bulk". A 305 million + population country like America can buy a LOT more units and save money on them individually. We only have 21 million + people in Australia.

@pickupdoctor Don't forget that that price is inclusive of GST (Goods & Services Tax) which is 10%. Australia also doesn't have a ludicrously low minimum wage, so it is more expensive for manufacturers and retailers to operate. It's a trade off that I personally think is worthwhile.

Consumer electronics are absurdly overpriced in Australia.

Yeah screw the kangaroos. I'd rather have cheaper games and cheaper consoles.

No point in getting it if it doesn't work in Australia until spring 2011:

I know right?
Its like the whole unit doesn't work without voice control. Games can't be played at all.

Huh... that FOXTEL TV actually looks pretty damn cool. Wouldn't mind seeing something like that in the States. 30 Live channels & a suite of videos on demand? Yes please.
I guess we do have Netflix so no complaints, but still. Nice.
Wait... I mean WTF KINECT AR TEH SUX!!! MS IS GREEED!!! FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

I don't quite understand this. How can Kinect be programmed to recognize accents from New York to Alabama, Sussex to Scotland, and somehow not understand Canadians in between?

Being able to get Fox Sports might be worth it. NRL, EPL.
