Not trying to flame, just want to get an overview on people thoughts:
Is there anyone who is 3D ready right now and plans to use this?

why would u even ask, no one here is 3D ready and most hate on the thought of it, so you will probably just get negative replies about how much is sucks yada yada yada... better to ask in a tech blog like Engadget or Gizmodo. I'm sure those with a 3D TV are dying for anything 3D ready at this point.

I am technically 3D ready (I have a 3d projector from 09), but since it came out before the required HDMI 3d standard, I'm outta luck for the PS3 3D schtuff. There are 3D Blu-Ray solutions for me though via PC. (I already have nVidia 3D Vision).

I'll be getting ready around tax time. My Comcast service is already offering 3D content in my area, too. Need to go get some demo's though. I hope Best Buy offers ps3 demos with it soon.

The way I see it, you do not need 3-D in everything. I like the idea of 3-D. But I want the movies and games to really lend themselves to it. Coraline had a world, story and art direction where 3-D was just next step in crafting it. I don't see myself playing Heavy Rain or Uncharted 2 and wishing they are in 3-D nor would I want to watch something like Precious in 3-D.

In the future, maybe I'll invest in it. But it's taken me years to feel comfortable with purchasing an HDTV. I've wanted one for years, but now there is enough content (Tv shows, movies, games) that I can buy one with no remorse and will be purchasing one soon.

I don't know why you would consider playing Uncharted 2 in 3D if you didn't even play it in HD. Regardless, assuming the resolution (and frame rate) could remain the same, it would undoubtedly be better in 3D.

If you are really buying your first HDTV now, you may very well end up with one that is 3D-Ready anyways since they have been releasing 3DTVs for months now (years in some cases ). Not to mention most of the better sets already support 3D whether you want it or not.

I've played Uncharted 2 on my 22' LCD monitor and it's an absolutely beautiful experience. Can't wait to see it on my 40 inch 120hz LG-LCD.

Out of all the TV's I saw when I went browsing this one caught my eye.

http://www.frys.com/product/5897963?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

And Fry's had it displaying Casino Royale and the picture was incredible. The price was right, the color and blacks were amazing & it's 120hz.

Nice TV, small though. :) Considering you're on your first HDTV purchase and shopping at that price-point, I don't think you're the target consumer for any TV manufacturer when it comes to selling 3DTVs. :P There are entry level 3D plasma models coming that are sub$1000, but most will be just generally higher-end panels that are going to be substantially more than that. :)

Man, I went to Best Buy today to look at TV's, and I spent an hour talking to this really nice fellow, and he demoed this great Samsung 3D TV for me...

...and I think I'm sold on 3D. The Monsters vs. Aliens clip they had in 3D was mind-blowing.

For sure, there is nothing wrong with the tech at all. It's great stuff. Just costs so darned much (And most people still see regular HDTVs as premium items).

But I can tell you that the 3D that I was watching, as the clearest image I've EVER seen on a screen in my life. I was blown away.

Makes me curious how they are gunna do the 3D. I thought the official 3D specs were centered around HDMI 1.4 (which afaik none of the ps3 models support). Maybe some hack that only works with new Sony TVs? That would suck pretty bad.

HDMI 1.3 (PS3) can pass through some parts of the 3D standard as long as the display device supports those signals (most likely full HDMI 1.4 sets).

I've read that HDMI 1.3 can be upgraded to 1.4 by a simple firmware update.

@Hohlraum Basically except for the network and audio return features, which require extra lines in the connector/cable, the PS3 can support all HDMI 1.4 features. So it’s kind of like, HDMI 1.3½. It should work on all TVs.

Even if it weren't a question of affordability, there just simply isn't enough content out there to justify a purchase. I'd wager most of us didn't even get HDTVs until the 360 and PS3 came out, and even then, there was quite a bit of HD television out there.

DLPs are flat screens, they are not flat panels however.

And I'm sorry that your home has a 5'x5' living room, because that's the only way a DLP would take up half of it.

3D will be cool for games and all, but it took years for most of us to adopt expensive HDTVs... now I have to get a new one for this?

I just can't afford to keep updating these things. I wish I could, but I can't.

I broke down and got a 3D bluray player in addition to the PS3...I guess I would have been waiting a little longer if I hadn't. I didn't think the 3D on that Meatball movie was as good as the underwater one you get for free with the Bravias.

My buddy here in the Bahamas has a 3D ready Mitsubishi DLP 73" and got the 3D kit a few weeks ago. We checked out all of the 3D games and demos available on PSN and as that's his only Blu-Ray player, he's definitely waiting on this update. From the short time I played on it, I was impressed. The Motor Storm Pacific Rift 3D demo was like playing RC cars or something right in front of the screen, just crazy. Wipeout was pretty cool too and Super Stardust 3D was like an arcade classic from the future. If anyone is looking to get into this I think the Mitsubishi DLP is the way to go. You can get a huge 3D setup for $1500 all in.

DLP has been doing 3D for years (and marketing it as such). Just sucks that TVs from 07-09 aren't compatible due to HDCP HDMI 1.4 crap, though there are expensive kits to make it work.

A $100 adapter is expensive? (Or in Samsung's case) a $100 adapter and $115ish gefen is expensive? Considering you already have the TV, the upgrade to 3D isn't that expensive.

There are also blu-ray players that output checkerboard (if you didn't want to buy an adapter).

As of this week you can get a 50" Samsung 3D Plasma, a 3D blu ray player, 2 glasses and a movie all for $1500. That is actually pretty inexpensive entry into 3D. In fact it is only $200 more than Panasonic's G20 by itself and that isn't even 3D.

I keep hearing 3D is expensive but I find the pricing of the 3D TVs to be in line with or actually less than last years high end models. Now the 3D glasses on the other hand are absurd in their pricing, and it is crazy there is only one title (Cloudy with a Chane of Meatballs) that you can buy since 3D tvs hit the market (March).

Movies don't interest me too much. Some do, but mainly older stuff. and I like to watch with friends, even leave the room. I don't think my vision is compatible with 3D as it's being sold today.

I do love a deep gaming experience, and think 3D gaming will continue to be awesome in enhancing this. The PS3 is awesome for building in this direction.

I also bought a TV for family, and it was super dang cheap because it's 'obsolete' 2D. that alone is pretty sweet.

You must have a vision problem if 3D doesn't work for you. I wear contacts 90% of the time, but sometimes eye strain from wearing contacts and staring at a computer screen all day for work is awful (waaaaaaaaaaaay worse than anything I've experienced from hours of viewing 3D) so sometimes I wear my glasses w/ nVidia 3D Vision and the glasses fit perfectly over mine. They were designed that way.
