Sega teases 'top secret' Valkyria Chronicles project

A Sega-registered website is teasing an unveiling related to strategy RPG series Valkyria Chronicles -- possibly of a new sequel. Andriasang stumbled upon Code1935.jp, which features several Valkyria-esque soldiers' silhouettes, a tank and a missive that the "top secret" site is not to be opened until September 16. The date coincides with this year's Tokyo Game Show.

What we can surmise from the site is that we are looking at a new Valkyria Chronicles, likely with a different squad -- perhaps not even Gallian. If "1935" in the website's name represents the setting, then it might take place during the events of Valkyria Chronicles 1. However, the large sword in the middle is unfamiliar, and "Altaha Abilia 422" doesn't ring any bells -- according to Wikipedia the slogan means "Always Ready."

We'll be at the ready to share more, like if the series will continue on PSP or in some other unexpected form, when we gain more intel.

It'll probably be on PSP since VCII outsold the first game by a wide margin.

One of the reasons that VC2 outsold the original is *because* of the original. With an already established fan base it had much less trouble. People are much more willing to buy into a familiar series than a new one. I suspect if any new entries in the series were on the PS3 they would perform significantly better than the original did.

The original was a new IP with no marketing released during the Q4 madness. It did poorly initially, but went on to do respectable numbers.

Typically sequels usually pass their predecessors sales if they're successful.

So, there's a good chance it will be Valkyria Chronicles 3 for PS3.

uh what? the sequel didnt even sell a fraction of what the first did.
VC1 sold over 400k in the west and over 300k in japan
VC2 sold around 250k in japan and probably wont break 100k in the west

I really hope it's on PS3. If they're worried about it underperforming, they should just make it multiplatform.

@Haelie Honestly don't think that's a concern of theirs. The reason they said they moved it to the PSP was to cut back on development time for a sequel and to capitalize on the anime at the time. The Producer/Director also said they're looking to keep the franchise PS3/PSP, currently wanting to get back to the PS3. If anything, they've been working on VC3 parallel with VC2 to cut back on the gap between the releases.

Color me interested.

PS3, or they can go screw themselves. They very least they could do is port the damn thing. I'm pretty sure PS3 can handle anything that runs on PSP.

I'm 90% sure this is for PS3. They wouldn't announce another PSP game so close to the release of the last one.

But if they prove me wrong... make no mistake, I will get very grumpy!

They're a Japanese company, this series has been developed in Japan, the website is a Japanese domain, they are announcing this on a date that coincides with a trade show aimed at the Japanese market, and Valkyria Chronicles II will have been out for almost nine months in Japan by that time ... It could be a PSP sequel already.

I just really, really, really hope it isn't.

i take it their is no way that this can be PSP's VC2 but on PS3. I would hope it would be but i doubt it i have a PSP but i just have trouble with the 1 Thumbstick like alot of people do and i'm trying my hardest too get use too it.

anyways VC i'l always accept you in open arms.

I'd by the original VC on PS3 if it had trophies (yes, you can call me a whore).

I hope the series returns to PS3 again at some point.

@Breakdown that's a horrible reason to not play it .. i'm a Trophy Whore myself but that doesn't stop me from buying a game that's Kickass. Your Missing Out !!! think of it this way after you complete the game you can go back to Trophies ! NOW GET OFF THE CHAIR AND BUY THE EPIC RPG GAME NOW !!!

PSP did well so Capcom will reneg on their promise and just release another one on the WEiEIIIiiiiiiiieiiieiiiiiiii~~~~~

Seriously, they've read the tea leaves and see profit in cheeper PsP games with better cash in flow, so it'll be another PsP

I'm so glad they're teasing this so soon - VC is a series that definitely deserves to be continued.

I just, not 30 minutes ago, bought the first VC for 20 bucks. I still haven't played it, but from what I heard, it looks like it's gonna be a really unique experience.

This is probably DLC for VC2. Over at Sega.com, you can download the "Freshman Cadet Guide." At the end of the guide, 20 DLC missions are listed and they'll be coming out starting September 28th. The last 20th DLC on the list is "TOP SECRET."

Huge, throbbing WANT for more VC, I cannot wait until VC2 arrives...

The great thing about this is the war you see in VC1 and VC2 is only one front--Gallia. There's an entire continental war going on, and it could go anywhere from here. :D
