Medal of Honor trailer previews Helicopters vs. Town cage fight
44
The latest trailer for EA's Medal of Honor reboot focuses on a segment from the single-player campaign -- one which pits a pair of heavily armored attack helicopters against a village of hostiles. Who will emerge victorious? The results may -- who are we kidding? The helicopters, of course.

Realistic? Where are the crater holes from missile impact? Clay house still stand after that much bombardment? Meh.

If this is "more realistic", I'd like to see what is "less realistic." Halo Reach?
Just take one look at those uncanny valley character models. At least in COD they look something like living human beings, not possessed mannequins.
Oh, and any game that has the audacity to portray a current conflict as its virtual shooting ground and let one side be virtual Taliban or insurgents trying to kill virtual Canadian or American soldiers, when said soldiers are actually dying day to day over there, is extremely callous and not something that will ever be supported by me.
Strictly as a game, this is a huge drop down in quality for DICE. Let's see if they can make Battlefield about epic maps and tons of vehicles again, not just a watered down MW2 rip off like BFB2 was.

Well the graphics look really good and the sound effects are amazing. Just can't help but get drawn to Black Ops.

Was it just me or did one of the guys on the radio sound like a ~14 year old kid?

For the realistic approach the devs want to take, this doesn't go anywhere near it but I suppose its for fun realism. Apaches don't fly that low, only for Hollywood type realism.
The effects look rather muddy and the destruction underwhelming, I suppose it could be fun.

First off, helicopters often fly EXTREMELY low to avoid detection and have cover from enemy projectiles. It's called "nape of the earth" (NOE) flight and involves flying behind trees, shrubs, small hills, etc.
Secondly, MOH is not any more realistic than COD. They are both stupidly unrealistic. Arguing about which one is more realistic is like arguing about which Bond movie is more realistic.
Only Call of Duty 4 had any practical storyline. MOH has a storyline based on an actual conflict of course, except that the portrayal is still pathetic and hackneyed, and disrespectful to soldiers actually serving in the hellhole known as Afghanistan.

Anyone else underwhelmed by this? I always applaud FPS's that give a varied experience but this was just meh to me.
Granted it was a short part of the game but the graphics were so bland. Watch the machine guns again... Totally lame.
And how realistic is it for a helicopter to hover a few hundred feet above a hostile town while multiple RPG's are shooting at it?

There was a tank in the MP BETA, so yeah probably.
And since DICE is doing the MP, it'll probably look a bit like BC2, witch has allot of vehicles.

'Bravo, we've started moving into the village, are we clear to engage the village?'
*Four rockets and a number of rounds later*

'You are cleared hot on all targets'
The bar has been set. I'll be aiming to flatten the place in the four seconds it takes to gather intelligence and cut through all that red tape...

The visuals look awesome. And firing those rockets seems like fun. But I still have my doubts. It is EA after all and I haven't enjoyed a single game of theirs in probably 10 years.

You know EA is the Publisher and not the developer right? Assuming you know that, have you not played Burnout, Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, Rock Band, Crysis, Dragon Age , etc. etc.? If you have and did not enjoy not a single one of them I really question you're lack of taste in games. :/

Ok I lied. What I said might have been a bit of hyperbole. I did enjoy Dead Space. That was a good game. All the other games just didn't do it for me. They aren't bad games they just don't appeal to me as much as many other games and I don't play enough to go beyond what I feel are the best. And for being one of the biggest publishers in the world you have to admit that's a pretty shitty line up of games for being their best. I mean Take Two has better games and EA was trying to buy them. With the number of games EA puts out compared to the number of quality games I just don't have much confidence in an EA marketed game.
Also most of their games I've played it seems like they spend way more time creating shinny graphics and explosions than they do making well thought out game play, characters and storylines. I could just imagine corporate coming into the studios while the developers are working and saying "No no they're too dumb to understand that, just spend your time making things shinier. It'll sell way better that way."
Activision is pretty much the same way. Except They struck gold first with Call Of Duty but look what they did to Infinity ward because of it. Gutted it. I'm sure it wont be long before all the best and most creative minds at Bioware have jumped ship to another studio or created their own.

It's pretty unrealistic for those helos to be flying that slow and low with known RPG's. They'd do better to make faster strafing runs on it instead of slowly circling it a hundred feet in the air. Plus in the video they decied to "go hot" on the entire village. At that point it would be better to just fall back and call in a JDAM strike on the entire village.
I also don't know of too many Taliban fighters eager to engage assault helos with RPG's. They're style is more to attack big, slow, unarmed Blackhawks.
But it's a game folks. It's all for fun. If you want the real thing, go elist.

It IS trying, according to the developers.
But there can be no doubt it is failing miserably. Just a way to cash in on a current conflict to try to make it seem "edgier" and "more realistic" to the 12 year olds out there who have no clue what the real thing is like.

@Lucky48 There are at least tanks in the mission mode of the multiplayer. Essentially the single player and mutiplayer are two different creatures entirely. In fact, I believe they use different engines. MP is developed by D.I.C.E. who makes the Battlefield games. I wouldn't expect any vehicle use like you do in those games.

The look and sound of the missiles and guns firing from the choppers look more realistic than any other game I have played.
I was concerned about the single player portion of the game, but after seeing some of these videos and tracking it for the last few months, I am more excited than ever about it.

Try flying like that in BC2. You'll be tracered and RPG's in less time then it take to say, "FUUUUUU--!" ;]

The graphics and detail look really good! I only wish that they worked on the destruction better. When the houses get hit by a rocket the house pretty much instantly disappears and there is a huge fireball and smoke that rises in the air. They should have made pieces of rock and house fly all over the place.
