Even though I probably own like 3 different versions of each of these games as it is, I'd love for this to come stateside if only for the soundtrack CD.

Just an FYI for the good folks at Joystiq, but Super Mario All-Stars was called "Super Mario Collection" in Japan.

Are they slowly killing off the Virtual Console just so they can sell us (even more) overpriced retail collections?

@harusame Technically, if it included all of the All-Stars stuff it'd be cheaper than buying them all separately on the VC.

@Softserve

Super Mario All-Stars had 4 NES games (SMB 1, 2, 3 & Lost Levels) so that's $21 if bought individually from VC. There was also a Super Mario All-Stars / Super Mario World cartridge that was bundled with the console ($29 individually, still a dollar cheaper!).

If this collection includes all the NES games , SMW and Yoshi's Island (still not on VC!), I'll probably buy it but it's still expensive compared to the Ultimate Genesis Collection that had 49 games for the same price.

Of course this is all just speculation at this point. For all we know the collection could include every Mario game from NES, SNES, N64, and GB with enhanced graphics, online multiplayer and a complimentary blowjob from Shigsy.

Ah yes, the Lost Levels. So tough I actually did the opposite of rage over them - I just laughed whenever trying to get through them.

I would totally get this even just for the sake of the extra book and CD.

I know this might sound like sacrilege, but I would love SMB 1-3 and Super Mario World remade with NSMB Wii quality graphics. Hell, add multiplayer while we're at it. I know the levels weren't made for multiplayer, but it could still be fun.

Actually, I think that'd be awesome -- the NSMB Wii update part, at least.

No please don't... pleeeesseee don't. I hope nintendo does not do what other have this gen, and remake everything we used to love and exploit it to sell to this new gen crowd who just wants to see new HD graphics slapped on everything.

do you really wanna rape SMB like that, just so you can say "oooo pretty graphics"

NSMB graphics didn't impress me. It was neat on the DS, but on the big screen it's just cold and sterile. It's still pretty but it just didn't seem right to me.

If they were to go that route they should update the graphics in the style of Super Mario World. Colorful, stylish.

That said, I'd rather have a true Super Mario World 2 (3) updated graphics or not than yet another port or remake.

The "SNES" graphics update was good enough. I'd rather not see it in NSMB graphics. I'd also be worried they'd mess with the jumping physics of those games in the process.

i don't know: $30 for this collection

Or buy them individually off the Virtual console:
Mario 1: $5
Mario 2: $5
Mario 3: $5
Mario World: $8
Mario Lost levels: $6

$29

I already have tons of mario songs on my ipod, and the booklet seems nice but will probably collect dust in the shelf. We don't know what this collection will have, but if its same thing as ALL STARS it really doesn't seem like a good deal. Maybe if they had GameBoy games remade in color or really nice graphics it would be worth it, but right now no way

I don't care what they think they're worth on the Virtual Console, at $30 for such old titles, they better rework SOMEthing. I mean, if we can get Sega's collection of classics for 19.99 on our PS3s and 360s, then we should see something of comparable value in this... or at least I'd hope.

What they need to add in this version is a level editor (where you can use gameplay mechanics and sprites from any of the games on the collection), with online capabilities to share the levels.

News flash!

Nintendo releases another retread!

So now we'll be playing a SNES game that ported and upgraded the graphics of an NES game on our Wii which is two Gamecubes duct-taped together.

Ahh cool! I hope this gets a US release as well.

If the "book" is anything like the Mario players guide Nintendo released back in the 90's, this could be a great little collectors item. The players guide included tons of mario stuff like gameplay specifications, mario through history timeline featuring image comparisons of mario artwork both in and out of games, complete level maps for Super Mario Bros 1, 2(IE, Super Mario Bros USA), 3 and Super Mario World. (I don't think the Lost Levels had come out in the US at the time.)

Sadly, the copy I had was stolen from my locker at school back then...

Maybe it's a revival in the sense that it'll include things like Super Mario 64?

Please?

(in any case, I'm so buying this. Mainly, I'm a bit of a Mario whore.)

Well I would like a real mario collection kinda like sega collection ...
ones that I can think of are right now (while on crappy class)
arcade : mario arcade ( that was a rare arcade in my town)
nes: mario 1, 2, 3 (original versions) , vs ( floopy original)
snes: mario 1, 2, 3 (enhanced(all star)) world, world 2, mario rpg

gameboy : super mario land 1,2 (not 3 since is wario)
gameboy color: Super Mario Bros. DX (collecting all those coins!)
gba: sma 2,3,4 ( with all the E reader content!!!) ,Superstar Saga, mari pinball, golf advance tour..... and hidden games like tetris attack, golf(nes) , donkey kong (arcade), game & watch....
now THAT would be a collection...
oh and the best part?
1- new free downloadable challenges (like mario kart)
2- connect your dsi, xl, or 3ds and download up to 3 games to it!!!! .. yes that would be a real collection worthy of $30-$50
on can dream right???

You'd have to be an idiot to buy this. As if there weren't already enough Mario ports. Enjoy pissing away $30 or whatever - I wouldn't pay 5.

@Misanthropic Gamer

I'd understand not paying $30 if it's just All-Stars again. But would you really not pay $5 for all those games? Hell, I'd do it just to have it all in one place that I can play on my TV.

It's worth noting that the cost of games in Japan is generally higher than it is in America, so it may likely be something like $20-$25 if it ever gets out here.

If that turns out to be the case, I wouldn't mind paying for it. Yeah, I could get the games individually, but this would all be in a nice package with updated graphics on all the games.
