Red Dead Redemption has shipped 6.9 million units and counting

Red Dead Redemption has been a bonanza for Take-Two, with the company announcing today that more than of 6.9 million units have been shipped to retail. Take-Two stated a couple months back that the title had already become profitable after the western shipped over 5 million units and allegedly recouped six years of development costs.
The breakout hit has been a staple of the NPD and UK sales charts since launch, but it's still got a lot of sales to go before it has the cachet of Grand Theft Auto. And before we stop using that picture above.

I'm a huge GTA IV and RDR fan, but I hate the multiplayer in both and can't understand how people enjoy it.
The concept of multiplayer in these types of games is incredible, but the actual gameplay always seems insanely clunky, unbalanced, random in terms of weapons and unfinished compared to major FPS games like Halo and COD.
I realize GTA and RDR are different games than FPS games, but I just can't help but compare them in terms of multiplayer because of the huge difference.
I just can't bring myself to play GTA or RDR online when I could play the latest COD game.

@JasonA Agreed. I love...LOVE the single-player. Everything from the story to the missions, to the game mechanics. However, my attempts at multiplayer have ended in failure. The system as far as I'm concerned needs some tweaking.

cool get to talk about GTA online... first, as for RDR online, it was definitely fun for a couple of weeks, who didn't posse up and do all the gang hideouts even if just for the trophy, i used to grief people online all the time (lol bite me :P ) they seriously blew it with how it didn't matter if u had auto aim on or not. That and how overpowered the High Powered pistol and Springfield Rifle were, i mean you could just be unstoppable with those two alone.
as for GTA online, i only ever do Free Roam exclusively... and when i do i either go killing everyone or team up with them and go base jumping. 2 things suck about GTA online. The stupid stupid airport games, 3/5 games online in GTA are at the airport were they spam the 'copters and then blow them up so no one can have one, the other is auto aim. i hate that shiiiit.
you know what, brb GTA online

My GOTY so far. But there's still some gems coming out. One of the most immersive single player experiences I've played in a long long time and a refreshing breath of fresh air among a sea of space marine shooters, over-the-top racers and pretentious (but good) indy games.

I always find it interesting that games that take 6 years or more to develop is a bad thing except when it's Blizzard.

My GOTY so far, although graphically speaking GOWIII blew everything out of the water.

Great game, but next time just scrap the multiplayer side of things and give us more singleplayer, please!

RDR is an absolutely amazing game. One of the very few video games where the story really grabbed me. Probably also one of the best endings to a video game ever.
I loved ME2, but Red Dead has to be game of the year - even with Halo Reach & Fable 3 still to come.

So, uh, score another one for forum-goers that use sales statistics as a metric for quality?
I'm pretty displeased, but that's because I think the GTA-flu needs to be immunized against. I'm not really a fan of Rockstar or their business practices (see Rockstar wives fiasco -- ie. pretty much the EA spouse fiasco).
