Sounds cool, for the two weeks after launch that people will actually be playing the multiplayer. Definitely worth the resources spent creating it.

Yeah... That's the problem with single player games that have multiplayer attached. Unless it's a AAAAA++++ title like Call of Duty or Halo, finding someone to play online after a few weeks will be a nightmare...

There's a few exceptions, like Uncharted 2 for instance, but still.

@Dark Archon PSN Archonik XBL Dar I wouldn't say every Call of Duty game has good multiplayer. I wasn't fond of 3, 5, or MW2.

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze: Their are still enough ppl in Perfect Dark Zero to play online... lf THAT game can do that at this age, then I'm sure a company like Visceral Games can definitely pull it off.

Not to mention once they have everything tacked down that they want to develop for the Single Player already, If the game types they put into multiplayer are Simple (and fun of course), then I'm sure it wouldn't cost them to much of their remaining resources to do it.

TL;DR: If the resources are their, then it can be done. I have alot of faith in the studio.

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze: Just want to point out that i do agree with you partially. But Who knows... Not many people even heard of Dead Space when it first came out, and look how well thats doing. Time will tell.

I can still play Dead Space and enjoy the hell out of it, and if i wait a couple months and then play it again, it will still make me need extra pairs of underwear.... you know... >.> just in case XD

First Arkham City's multiplayer gets confirmed, and now Dead Space is rumored to be getting it? Sounds awesome. These developers make amazing games and I'm sure their multiplayer would be just as good!

Well what about the thought of you dismembering your girlfriend's characters finger then tele-toss it back and telling her to stop fingering herself?

Or taking her head, then when she respawns launch it right at her for another innuendo?

@DevilSei Nope.. I have actually not purchased games because of multiplayer (and purchased some 'crap' games because there wasn't any MP).. I even used to play World Of Warcraft & Pokemon solo.. multiplayer modes get too repetitive far too quickly to keep me there, in most games I never even venture into that part of the menu.. and the less multiplayer achievements the better (they only add to the 10,000gs I don't have), goes for trophies too
..What girlfriend?

@Mazrael Just because other studios failed, doesn't mean Visceral Games will ;)

If done so that only a few are really needed for the experience i'm confident they can pull it off... I mean come one. They only made one the best (if not the best) Horror games of all time.

What would be better though, is if their were some kind of co-op. Maybe something leading to the events of why the "city" in Dead Space 2 is the way it is.

@Morisato See, that sounds better to me, I would far rather have a horde mode over a deathmatch style game mode.. but instead of playing as Issac's, play as a resident cop/soldier facing off the start of the necromorphs, kind of a cross between Left 4 Dead & Gears Of War's Horde mode.. Competitive co-op is far more enjoyable then spawn-shoot-die
Games like Halo, Gears of War, Call Of Duty were built for multiplayer (although I'm done with COD).. But games like Bioshock, Assassins Creed & Dead Space were built to be played solo.. I guess Ubisoft have done it right by putting MP on a spin off game, as it's not important to the main canon.. I know Uncharted 2 kind of works, and I only play it if a mate's online but we're always put against bigger clans teams, turning it into a waste of time

So then they have to decide which mode to focus on, single player or multi. Hopefully they'll focus on SP, although the story in the original game was ridiculous. We'll see soom.

Multiplayer in your game does not equal sales EA.

Do a good job on the campaign experience, I don't give a shit about tacked on features.

They said something like only one third of people who played DS actually bought.

I'm guessing adding multi is to up the number.

Is this really necessary?

I thoroughly enjoyed the first Dead Space and not once did I think to myself "this game is great, but what it really needs is multiplayer".

Same thing with BioShock 2.

EA, if you must put multiplayer in the game, at least make all of the achievements campaign-related so gamerscore junkies like me don't have to play it if we don't want to.

I noticed a lot of hate. Why don't you give it a chance. People said the same thing about the 1998 AvP and it turned out excellent. Same goes for Left 4 Dead letting you play as the infected and up coming Gear of War 3 letting you play as the other Locust castes as well as the Lambent. Just give it a chance before you knock it it might be fun.

@midnite marauder

No. There have been too many single player games that had shitty MP tacked on. We don't need to give it a chance, it's been proven already.

Second of all, Left 4 Dead and Gears of War both are multiplayer heavy games. In fact that's their main draw, they are co-op campaign and then heavy on the MP PvP matches.

@fohf

But Uncharted started out as single player and 2s was great from what I hear. AvP was single player all the way up to 98 and that turned out spectacular. Neither of these was MP focused yet they worked. SO I think a chance should be given before we throw them under the bus. Besides that why argue about extra content? The more the better since I'm paying the better half of a hundred for them anyway.

@midnite marauder yeah i agree totally the stupid attacks are lame why do you always assume cause the game has multiplayer it will hurt singleplayer bad company 2 both are great left 4 dead is good too red dead redemption and bioshock 2 are good give it a chance and actually play it before spouting things you don't even know about

@ Gilliand yeah probably the multiplayer is added to get more people to buy the game but' that doesn't mean it will be bad i trust Visceral games that will make it work and it won't feel just thrown on to the game im guessing they have seperate teams working on sp and mp

I can confirm the mutiplayer for Dead Space 2 since I saw an exclusive trailer for it yesterday at the Gamestop manager conference. You do in fact get to play humans vs necromorphs. I still don't know how I feel about the inclusion of multiplayer, but the stuff I saw on the game looked AMAZING.

Also saw a new level in which Isaac had to drift out in space (with complete zero G control) to launch an escape pod, which propelled him through space similar to the level in God of War 3 in which Kratos flew upwards using his Icarus wings, dodging space debris along the way. The graphics in this game were mind-blowingly awesome.

I also saw 2 unrated Isaac death sequences that the ESRB would not allow them to put in the game, and all I can say is... poor Isaac.
