Have you ever wished you could turn the act of reading a comic book into a more social experience, but without all the reading over your shoulder and creepy breathing down the back your shirt? Sony might be making moves to bring your dream to fruition. PS3 enthusiast site Addicted to PlayStation reported receiving a survey inquiring whether they would be interested in seeing the Digital Comics service, which launched last November on the PSP, migrate to the PS3 (or other devices) sometime in the future.
If Sony really is planning on bringing comics to the big screen, we're torn on whether or not that would be a good thing. On one hand, part of the joy of comics is burying your face in the pages -- an experience you couldn't really replicate on a TV. On the other, we could finally use this as a chance to show our friends what incredibly expedient readers we are. "Oh, you're still on panel four? We're on panel nine. What's up?"

Seems like a good idea to me. TVs are a lot bigger than the PSP screen.
I'd be interested in checking it out if it came to PS3. I used to be an avid collector, but I haven't bought anything (asides from graphic novels) in years.

No kidding. I don't get how such a tiny system like a PSP can have so many insanely cool features and a powerful console is, by comparison, fairly limited in that regard.
@Korwyn
If you are so desperate to play PSP games as to wish for magical features like that, you might as well just buy a PSP and get it over with.

The PS3 has superior functionality when compared to the PSP.
Come on, now.
but yeah, it's strange that the PS3 can't play PSP games. I'd love it if it could do remote play in reverse, too. PSP games have crossed the threshold of quality that they are fun to play on a TV from a couch.
I was hoping that there would be some kind of common game save service, where you could play AAA titles from your PS3, and then take them with you on your PSP. Sure, they wouldn't be as good as normal PS3 games, but I'd totally buy into this.

I liked it when the Genesis did this. It was called Comix Zone.

I have bought a few digital comics for my PSP and continue to buy them from time to time. I dont think I would ever buy any comics to read specifically on my PS3, but I would like the option to use the comics I bought on both platforms (like with the minis)

I did get this survey, so its not a rumor. My question is why wouldn't you be able to view it on your PS3 (or PC as it indicated in the survey also) and the PSP. Like how minis work or movies, or something. You can look at it on you TV or PSP, your choice. That wouldn't be a bad thing.

How about some Halo comics :) Wouldn't that be ironic?
As for the concept, I'm not seeing it working, PSP yes, because its small and mobile, but on a PS3? Can't really imagine anyone sitting in front of the TV reading comics.

It would be great. Not sure why they decided to make it a PSP-only feature this whole time.
Not everybody likes to squint at a PSP for reading comics. I think it's also better than fiddling around with some of the broken freeware available on my laptop.

I got an email from Sony for this survey and took it. I never really understand why it hasn't been available on the PS3 as well this whole time.

I already read comics on my old Xbox1 on a 65" HDTV through XBMC. for those that haven't tried it, don't mock it. looks great at 1920x1080p. you can easily scroll or zoom or flip pages. heck, if you have a small HDTV and can physically rotate it to be in portrait position, you can read the comics the way they were meant to be read.

Agreed. I love going to the comic book store every wednesday, getting the titles on my pull list, and then browsing around to see what other titles are of interest or buying some collectibles (action figures, heroclix, tcgs,). Then getting home, putting them in a bag with a board and storing them in my boxes. Or buying hardcovers and trades and storing them in my bookcase.
oh how i love comic books :]

Now if they'd only add a "feature" to the PSP comics reader that allowed you to DELETE a comic you don't want anymore.
If they have one, short of opening it up on PC and going into the files, I sure haven't found it.
