They have to learn from MW2. Cheaters brought MW2 down hard and even brought IW down.

@The MARIO "Cheaters brought MW2 down hard"

Cheaters are still bringing it down hard. It's the main reason I really only play World at War nowadays. MW2 is still a ridiculous lagfest, full of glitchers and idiots.

I'm only watching Black Ops because my girl is psyched for it, but I got the feeling that most of the MW2 a$$hats will be making their way over come November. Maybe then MW2 will become playable.

i agree. i'm sure it was something more.
anyway, in the combat training mode, will i be able to play split screen with a friend against bots? that would make this game worth every penny. it's looking great!

@The MARIO IW brought IW down. People need to stop sticking up for them... and stop blaming Activision for their failures. They made a noobish game. cheaters or no cheaters. Those 25 killstreaks encouraged a crap load of camping. The perks were ridiculous and Commando was the worst ever. The attachments on the guns were noobish too... heartbeat sensors and thermal? GTFO! Several things are noobish in that game which Infinity Ward created.... COD 4 > MW2

@Corso But remember in Black Ops u have dedicated servers so u may see the return of Punkbuster and that u can be safe from cheaters and hackers when admins are on the servers who can easily kick/ban the hacker soo i think that mw2 fanboys will stick to their crappy host and not dedicated servers :P

@ghostdog Yeah but bear in mind IW didn't even want to do MW2, they wanted to do Modern Warfare, and after that wished to move on to another setting. It was Activision that demanded a sequel. When a developers heart is not in the game, it's never going to be as good as it can be.

well treyarch is really trying to win the hearts of the IW fanboys, I hope that this game does at least as well as MW2, still not sure if i will try this game out though, i think i will wait and see how good they are at keeping cheaters out of the online experience.

MW2 had a lot more hype behind it than BO does at this point. Activision is trying desperately to build more for this game, but I don't see it reaching those same record-breaking sales figures that MW2 hit. There are a lot more people burned by the loss of dedicated servers, people who are still upset by the glitchers/cheaters and the breakdown of IW and how Activision handled it to consider buying a new CoD.

It's their own fault (not Treyarch's) for whatever reduced sales figures this game sees. I still see it selling huge though. Unfortunate that Activision won't learn anything from their douchebaggery.

Only one employee to investigate cheating? I bet he or she will receive thousands of reports a day, the majority of which will not even be cheaters. At least they are recognizing it as an issue though. Lack of clan support is really disappointing as well. Is it really that hard? I hope that inviting friends and keeping them on your team has been stream lined a little compared to the previous COD games.

To be honest i played trough the MW2 campaing on Veteran but didn't played the game online till a few days ago and must say it's so much fun, had a wrong idea about the whole concept and the game that got me close to online FPS gaming was MAG a couple o months ago (and i know MW2 multiplayer is pretty different from MAG's)

Well, i'm not going to lie, I did the tenth prestige hack. Not because I wanted people to think I was some kind of pro, or a 1337 h4x0r, just because I wanted to enjoy the full game experience, without pressure to level up or prestige. However, I still dislike cheating that puts 1 player at an advantage over another such as infinite health, ammo or map exploits.

You can indeed put clantags on your guns. I think it's a neat little feature. How funny would it be to be killed by a guy with the clan-tag "Ownd", then in the killcam you get to see him mocking you even after death. Add that and the smiley face scope, and you've got instant rage!

I was going to say that its childish having PWN on the guns, but if that's just the spot where you can put your clan tag, that's pretty cool. Even though PWN as a clan tag just confirms you'll be a virgin until you're 35 and visit Thailand.

@whenjasonattacks yes TI will be in FFA. However, with the theater mode, you'll be able to review the game through the eyes of the cheaters. Then all you have to do is report them to Treyarch and let them drop the banhammer. poof one less cheater who'll bithc and complain, other boosters will catch wind of this and most likely stop to avoid getting banned and having to pay another $50 for a new profile/membership. Haha, I love it!!

I hate that Activision feels the need to "annualize" COD and swore that I wouldn't buy Black Ops, as I'm still having fun with MW2.

But Treyarch is not making it easy on me. The more I see of this game, the more I like it.

As long as Activision doesn't implement their multiplayer subscription nonsense with Black Ops, I'll probably be picking this up in November.

But please Treyarch, don't make the veteran campaign difficulty so cheap. My arms are still tired from tossing back all those enemy grenades in WAW.

Actually, while the AI did spam grenades in WAW, it was also a game mechanic that was designed to pressure the player to progress through the level with minimal camping.

So, will theater mode stop people from using controllers that create fully automatic snipers/pistols/FALs/etc? I didn't think so.

Cheaters are gonna cheat, but there's (almost) always a counter: different loadouts, migrate to a new game, report and move on. And if those don't work, death threats and childish hissy fits can also do the trick.

@FROMtheASHES777 All you need to do is record them using the theater mode, send it in to treyarch and (fingers crossed) they'll be banned. The trick with theater mode is that you can not only watch your own playthrough, but EVERYONE elses as well. And you can record them too. That will weed out all kinds of boosters, cheaters, and modders

"Combat Training has a "tutorial tips" mode that will walk you through the basic multiplayer mechanics. So the idea is that you can level-up and skill-up in the Combat Training kiddie pool before dipping your toes into the shark-infested waters of competitive online play."

That's the only thing that really worries me. I hope this means that the leveling and such from Combat Training doesn't carry over into other modes, because I can see people dumbing down bots to rack up XP for use in real matches. I'm sure they thought of that, but I just wish that was conveyed a little clearer.

@thescantronman It was made very clear but you may have missed it. CT works the same as "Private Match" in MW2. The XP (or COD points) you gain in CT does not overlap into public matches. You're right to give them credit for being smrt...

COD issues:

1. Peer 2 peer
2. Lag switches
3. Glitches and bugs

No multiplayer game currently tackles Lag switches.. This is by far the worst type of cheating and it should be fairly easy to catch..

This is why software Like Punk Buster on the PC was so important it was near evolutionary for multi player pc games and console games are now rife with rubbish.. A client should reside on each local console scanning the system, it detects 3 intentional disconnections it kicks the player off for 30 minutes, it detects a particular anomaly it kicks the player off for 30 minutes..

The best deterrent for cheaters is just to continuously kick them off for long periods of time.

Skills based matching is absolutely pointless in a game like COD, you went better opponents play in the hardcore modes.. I can understand why they dont use it..

Clan play, I am not so sure about.. On consoles this has been badly implemented in practically every game, but on the PC clan based play was perfected near enough last gen..

Also xbox roughly has about 50% xbox live gold membership attach rate :. likely that only about 50% of the user base can actually go online to play the game, this would be much higher on the ps3 as there are more psn accounts than sold ps3 consoles so likely to have around 90% attachment rate.

All said and done, I have bought practically all of the COD games up till now, I am not getting them any more.. Really bored with MW2, really bored of the lag and the continual shitty treatment of the fans by Activision, the map pack prices are absurd, its just 1 big cash cow..
