Conduit 2's All Seeing Eye avoids GoldenEye, moves to 2011
34
November 2 was going to mark the release of not one, but two high-profile first person shooters on Wii: Conduit 2 and GoldenEye. It looks like Sega and High Voltage are taking a step back, telling Nintendojo that the Conduit sequel has been pushed back to Q1 2011.
There's no specified reason for the delay, but it's likely that Q1 offered a better release window for the Wii shooter. Sega famously released Resonance of Fate one week after Final Fantasy XIII. Presumably, Sega would want a better fate for Conduit 2.

I thought the first game was dumb and I won't be buying the second. Bad franchise is bad.
Oh by the ... Metroid other M is amazing

@The MARIO I tend to enjoy G4's reviews, but it would seem that you believe this review automatically invalidates Johnny's opinion, which is absurd.
Or am I jumping to conclusions, here?

Wait, that review was written by a serious, professional reviewer? My god, her main negative points on how the game doesn't present enough feminist ideals and how she has human emotions, and how the game isn't a copy of Super Metroid.
Nothing wrong with the gameplay, graphics, anything like that. Just not enough feminist ideals and Super Metroid....

I bought Metroid: Other M last night and it's really, really good. It's still classic Metroid, but with a more action approach which is pretty kick-ass, and the cinematic approach is stunning for being a Nintendo game. The controls haven't even been an issue for me. I've been able to smoothly transition between third and first person fairly easily without too much thought.

They knew they had no chance in hell against Goldeneye.

@Faenix Does it matter if it's on Wii.
Serious gamers who have Wii's are surely to have another console, whether that be PS3, 360, or both. So these consumers could potentially allow the game to fail. What dev or publisher wants that? It happened with Red Dead, which sold gazillions, and that hurt sales for exclusives all around.

@MLC You're forgetting two grand games that come out then: Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and LittleBigPlanet 2, my friend.

Ghost Recon unfortunately looks terrible. I just read the NP preview and I already am disappointed. It's on rails(though you have "point and click" control), and it looks dumbed down from the previous ones.

The Wii version of Ghost Recon looks to me like Ubisoft's trying once again to justify to their investors why they don't put out quality games on Wii by releasing another low-budget fourth-string version of a popular franchise on the system.
And I was hoping we'd be past all this by now.

I'll buy it day one no matter when it comes out.
The first one wasn't bad, just mediocre, but it was solidly built. One of the coolest things about it is it's the only game I have ever found that has allowed me to completely customize anything in the controls and on-screen. I wish every game did that.

At last, one of the big publishers wakes up enough to avoid getting a good game crushed during the holiday release season. Hopefully the Q1 release schedule will continue to allow games to survive the Nov/Dec deluge.
The above article fails to mention (but Joystiq does note elsewhere) that C2 is now getting a more traditional FPS control set-up with support for the Classic Controller Pro--this should help give it a little more appeal.
Sure, haters will hate, but for those of us who own (or are stuck with) a Wii, this delay is potentially welcome news. What will be far more interesting to watch will be to see what Sega does if GoldenEye's sales stall at launch.

The delay was probably for the better, but that doesn't mean Conduit 2 won't have any competition now. Supposedly Zelda, Pokemon Black & White, and the 3DS are going to be released in Q1 2010, and that's just for Nintendo systems. Still beats going up against a remake of Goldeneye and then another Call of Duty a week later, though.

Smart move, Conduit. Smart move.
I was seriously worried about them having to compete with GoldenEye...
No Wii FPS can compete with the hype of GoldenEye even if it had friggin' ninjas taking down Godzilla robots...

I don't know why this game is running from Goldeneye. I predict a backlash against Goldeneye. It's not even Goldeneye.

Despite not being the original game, Goldeneye still seems to have more than a few things going for it (Local multiplayer with lots of variety, solid production values, decent hype and marketing) so whatever backlash it gets can't be too horrible.
