Duke Nukem Forever coming '2011' on Xbox 360, PS3 & PC, courtesy of Gearbox

It's finally, really, actually ... maybe going to happen at this point. The rumors are true: Gearbox Software and 2K Games have taken on the Herculean task of completing and releasing 3D Realms' unfinished Duke Nukem Forever. The project was officially unveiled today at PAX during a livestreamed presentation at the 2K Games booth and announced for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. "It's coming out in 2011," Gearbox president Randy Pitchford said during the presentation. (Of course, we're skeptical about any release date associated with this particular title.)
Gearbox began finishing Duke Nukem Forever in late 2009, according to The Wall Street Journal. "Clearly the game hadn't been finished at 3D Realms but a lot of content had been created," Pitchford told WSJ.
"We're in the polishing phase now. This is a game where we can not make a promise we can not fulfill," Pitchford added. "We need to get past the shock and awe, and then we can go to all the retailers and first parties and work out a launch plan."
Duke Nukem Forever is a sequel to Duke Nukem 3D and will feature both a single-player campaign and multiplayer. "Aliens come and say they're going to be our friends, and Duke knows this isn't going to work out," Pitchford revealed of the plot. "Duke once again is in the pivotal spot and it's up to him to save the world."

Does this mean that I have to dust off my old 486 w/ 512MB of RAM and VGA graphics so I can play it?

@nubby What kind of 486 had 512 MB of RAM?? It can't be a typo either (for KB). My 486 DX/33 had 8 MB initially and 16 at the end of its life, I believe my 486 DX2/66 had 16 and then later maaaaybe I upgraded it to 32 MB (I can't remember).

@nubby I think he means 512K. It's easy to do these days. After all we don't really measure things in K anymore. A MB is often the lowest value we see.

I've been waiting for this bastard game since I was 13 years old. I'm not getting even remotely interested in it until it's on the shelves.

I bet they don't even plan on releasing it. This is just one massive practical joke from Gearbox.
"No seriously guys, it's coming out next quarter fo reelz"
You heard it here first.*
*Or maybe you didn't, I haven't read the rest of the comments.

Did 3D lose Duke Nukem IP? Because their site no longer allows for you to post about Duke, and GearBox has all the old 3D games on their forums now.

Does anyone even care about Duke Nukeum any more? It seems like such an old throwback. How many people here are actually thinking 'Yeah I'm probably going to buy this'?

Meh, this game better be life changing. Otherwise it will flop.

There is no way this game can live up to the hype it has generated over the past 13 years. They should have just let it die and developed a new game entirely, or at least renamed it. Nevertheless, I continue to get stoked every time they announce progress.

Don't care how dated this game is, buying it day one! Though People Can Fly would have done much better with this series, Bulletstorm looks like it's spiritual successor...too bad it's missing the Duke.
This game will be hilarious at least.

After ten plus years in development, people are going to be expecting the best game ever created. The expectations are going to be so incredibly high that not even the best game companies in the world would be able to get a decent review out of this.
They can try, but there's no way they can succeed at this like they hope.

Take a look at Starcraft 2. But I agree this will most likely just flop as soon as it comes out.

3D Realms must've been dicking around for all those years because there's no way a Duke Nukem game can take that long to make.
The entire grand theft auto series was made in less time, as were all of the LOTR and Harry Potter movies. I thought this game was supposed to remain a running joke?

I betcha it's just unused levels/content from Borderlands with the Duke Nukem name on it. Which still makes it a great game.
Besides, Bulletstorm is pretty much Duke Nukem but updated and even more ridiculous.
