PlayStation Blog has announced a February 22, 2011 North American release date for
Killzone 3, the fourth installment in Guerrilla Games' FPS series (we know, we still find that confusing too). For those of you keeping score, that's almost two years to the day after the release of Killzone 2. We guess the last week of Feburary holds some kind of secret significance to the Amsterdam-based developer.
If you happen to be attending the Penny Arcade Expo at the moment, you can get your hands on the game much, much sooner -- a playable 8-on-8 multiplayer demo is currently set up at Sony's booth on the PAX show floor.

I was thinking about it, but now I'm sure I'll have to pass on this.
February will just be Portal 2 and Bulletstorm for me.

@Discotheque I take it you haven't played Painkiller? Or watched the gameplay demonstration for Bulletstorm?
Killzone's boring. The novelty of the shiny graphics has worn off on me, especially now that Bulletstorm also LOOKS better with the very vibrant colors AND impressive tech. I traded the second game in after a month.

That's my birthday! However I am a EuroPeon.
Does that mean I should expect it earlier?

How is this the fourth installment? Are they counting that horrible PSP game or something?

@c86 I actually played through about half of Liberation before I deleted it from my memory stick. That game is a perfect example of why PSP games are pirated so much. I would've been pissed if I had actually spent any money on that PoS.
The console games on the other hand are pretty good. I wouldn't say they're triple A title but they certainly hold their own.

I can't believe it's been almost 2 years already. I just got a ps3 and have yet to get this game. Maybe I'll pick it up after work when I get paid today, is the online still alive?

I just jumped online the other day and there are still games to be found. The only downside is that the games available usually consist of deathmatch on one of 2 or 3 maps. I've always felt that Killzone 2 maps were fantastic and never understood why people would limit the map selection.
On a plus side - you can play offline with bots. The most satisfying bot experience I have ever come across.

@Danny51990 I just played online today and had no problem finding a room that rotated all the maps included on the disc.

Blu-Ray discs are just the storage medium. There is absolutely nothing about them that will make games inherently perform better. Only games that require asset compression in order to fit on a regular DVD-9 will look or sound better because of Blu-Ray, and there aren't that many games like that out there.

If this is true, that they've significantly reduced input lag and tightened up the dead zone, I'll be thrilled. I don't mind the idea of a weighty control feel, but I do mind the input lag that KZ2 had. That's what a lot of people don't understand, on both sides of the controls argument: it was two parts, one was a unique acceleration of the player's aiming, and the other was input lag. BOTH of these factors contributed to KZ2's "weighty" control. What I've wanted all along was for them to eliminate the extra input lag, but retain some sense of their original objective of a weighty more realistic feel. If they can do this, I'll be SUPER happy and even more excited for the sequel.
