Halo: Reach's Spartans who didn't make the cut
21
Bungie revealed an interesting tidbit about the creation of Noble, the protagonist Spartan squad engulfed in the conflict on the titular planet in Halo: Reach. There were initially more members of the team, though two were eventually cut in favor of the five in the final Noble team we know today (excluding Noble Six, the player character in Halo: Reach).
"Back in the early days, we talked a lot about The Magnificent Seven and The Seven Samurai," Lee Wilson, story and cinematics lead, said. "And yes, originally, there were seven Spartans. Here's a little bit of trivia for you guys: Rosetta and Tom, yes, were two of the Spartans we had to cut, unfortunately."
Wilson described Rosetta as being "sassy," while Tom was "a cowboy." If you need us, we'll be pouring one out for the first casualties in the Fall of Reach.

Here's the sad truth of video game movies.
If they make one, they will use nothing from the book, the game, or any previous game. They will make up their own shit, stuff that makes no sense, and has no connection to the games at all. The only thing connecting the two will be the movie's character will be named Master Chief, and it will be called Halo.

@Richstall - I would have rather had a direct translation from book to game as well (especially the scenes with John as a kid, played from either Dr.Halsey's or John's perspective) but...eh...it wasn't meant to be I guess.

The thing with most movie companies is that they can't appeal to just the gamers. They have to appeal to a broader audience if they want to make money. I understand that Halo 3 has made almost 8 million in purchases but big blockbuster films usually make 20 to 30 million. It's not that the director wants to deliberately piss off the gamers, that's definitely not the case. It's just that in order to really make a profit, they can't just follow what is directly done in the series. That's the main problem. The generalization of movies based on games is almost mandatory in order for it to make money. They have to appeal to more than just gamers. I know it seems like a dumb idea, but that's the movie business. That's why it takes so long for games like Gears Of War & Metal Gear Solid to become films because if a developer is really cares about their game, they won't let the movie company take over the whole project like Bloodrayne & Hitman.

I'm willing to bet that whenever, or rather if ever, a Halo movie is released it is not going to be handled by someone like Uwe Boll. If the shorts are any indicator than it just might actually be pretty good. Not sure why they scrapped the Neil Blomkamp Halo film because Halo: Landfall was pretty cool. Just seeing a real operational Warthog driving around is awesomeness.
Don't be so pessimistic. This is Microsoft's key franchise, they're not going to soil it by releasing a terrible movie...

Umm Halo 3 made waaayyyy more than $8million in purchases. In fact, it made more than $170million in its first day, and $300million in its first week. Overall, the series has grossed almost $2billion worldwide. Research before you comment, please. :D

@Jahdod90 THEY DIDN'T USE THE ONES FROM THE BOOK BECAUSE THE ONES FROM THE BOOK ARE MASTER CHIEF'S SQUAD!
Also, if you are looking to expand the Halo lore you can't tell a story that's already been told. Why tell John's story of Reach, it's already been told, tell the story of the rest of the planet. The event of the fall of Reach should outweigh the story of what one person did to escape it at this point. They're completing the tale of Reach because the books only told the story of John's escape, not what actually happened.
