Video: Part two of Disney Epic Mickey's opening cinematic
44
During his keynote speech at PAX yesterday, Warren Spector revealed the second half of Disney Epic Mickey's opening cinematic, which you can find and watch right after the break. The first half, you'll remember, set Mickey up as a mischievous type who'd played around with a magical paintbrush and eventually fallen into a spinning vortex of darkness.
In this half, Mickey is dropped into a mad scientist's castle in the Wasteland, where we get to meet Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, the Phantom Blot and a cast of other characters who will undoubtedly appear elsewhere in the game. And just like the first half, this one is presumably full of old school Disney animation references and in-jokes, none of which we actually get (although Google helped us out with this one). Any Disney scholars want to call out Spector for showing off?

Can I get an example. the only one I've ever heard was when Alyx was talking about how Freeman and Barney had a contest to find out who could get into the Doc's lab first using the vent's. Don't get me wrong, Half-Life 2 is in my top 10 of favorite games ever, but to say Gordon Freeman is anything but a cookie cutter character is pushing it.

Those are still words, and he still talks. That's why people say stuff like "It's-a me, Mario." Because he actually says that.

I could care less about Mickey not talking. I'm more bummed about the fact that this game is a Wii exclusive :(

I just hope when the 360/PS3 versions come, folks don't criticize the game's graphics, because I honestly feel they won't take a long time on that when they port it.

I just love the sheer DENSITY of the references. It's like this is the Mario game made only for me, because I know VERY few other people who would benefit from this as much as me. I mean, Oswald is the main draw for me, that's how much of an animation nerd I am, but seriously who else is going to care in the slightest?

That was rather intense in all honesty. I'm perfectly fine with the lack of voices though. I'm finally gonna have to buy a Wii for this...

Regardless of being pumped about EM, I wasn't aware it was kosher to pimp your game during a keynote.

Does it bug anyone else that Mickey's face is white and not tan/peach?
His face is the exact color of his gloves, it's bizarre.

Also, the old Mickey could be a really big jerk as well, which fits in with the game as you can choose to destroy or paint the things around you. I'd imagine you could make it a pretty dismal place if you have the amount of choices as the devs claim you do.
And yea, I can't believe people don't understand this is the old Steamboat era Mickey. If you've watched any clips from this game you'd know that there are even levels that are all black and white like the original cartoon.
Personally, I love this style much more than the modern mickey. The forehead and eyes' designs are fantastic.

@HTCEVO Then why is he wearing gloves?
Steamboat Willie doesn't wear gloves. It's awkward because his face is the same exact color as his gloves and it doesn't really work visually (color-wise).
And once he did appear in color in "The Band Concert" in 1935, his gloves had a very slight off-white appearance to them so that the gloves and his face wouldn't blend together such as they do in Epic Mickey.
I'm fine with his face being white, but they should have made his gloves a little off-white.
It's them being the exact same color that bothers me.
