Free Borderlands update will raise level cap, rebalance main game
52
We've got bad news and good news. First, the bad news: The new Borderlands DLC pack – that's Claptrap's New Robot Revolution – won't include the two most requested features. Those would be a new level cap and a rebalancing of the main game to accomodate the new level cap. And neither of those will be included with the latest DLC.
Now the good news: They are being included in a free update for the game across all three platforms, Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford told a live PAX audience that his studio resisted making it a part of a DLC pack since, if they included those features, "you'd have to buy every previous DLC" to get access to said features. So, instead, Pitchford said they were going to release a "free update to Borderlands that will both rebalance the original game around the level cap and increase the level cap for everyone."
But Pitchford said the studio still struggled with how high to raise it. On the one hand, Gearbox didn't want to match the 11-point upgrade that many people paid for with the "General Knox" DLC, but on the other the devs didn't want it to be too low, like 5-points. Instead, they came up with another number. "With the current level cap at 61," Pitchford teased, "we realized if we added 8 levels ... "
The audience groans.
So the new level cap is 69 and it will be released sometime around the October 12th Borderlands Game of the Year Edition release.

@SitriStahl And you're still a cheater, and with the upcoming max level cap at 69, you'll always be identified as such. Congratulations.

There's a glitch to get unlimited skillpoints. If you complete the first three arenas in the dlc you get a skillpoint. You're only supposed to do this one time, but if you complete it again in co-op. You still get skillpoints each time. It takes a few hours for each skillpoint, but it has no max.
ALSO do not reset your skillpoints, it will make you lose the extras.

So am I going to be downvoted for also having a level 70 character? Despite the fact that I only use it as extra storage for legitimate items I don't have room for? Well then shoot me running. I guess I'm a damn cheater for wanting more space than the Mad Moxxi DLC would allow.

...I love this game...its one of my favorites...
But *GAWD* I hope they fix the armor rating of the vehicles....
I have a serious problem that a guy 3 levels lower with a grey class pistol can take out a fully armored(shielded) vehicle in less than 30 seconds.

Lol. At least its freek. Problem is though, by now people will max their skills. I think we need more skills for our characters (nothing major, just something to add extra points too)

I'd say some more skills could help in fighting that damn crab on General Knox but I doubt getting skills that i've left untouched for 60 levels will really help much.

Go kill Crawmerax with some buds, you'll hit the level cap in no time.

Will the update make the game good? Or just make the vast emptiness of the game last longer?

No, but it WILL continue to ignore the basic problems that plague the PC version! FOR FREE!

@Cap Morgan So I've got no soul because I've got a different opinion than you, or because I disagree with the masses on a game I believe was poorly made?

What I'd really like to see is a way to make new characters that start at higher levels. I'd just like to be able to make a character at around level 35 (end of first playthrough) so me and my friends could all start General Knoxx at around the same level.

@trickybuz93 Yeah. I love Borderlands and am pumped for the FREE update, but 69 because it's "69". Seriously? That's like "cops and doughnuts" or "monkeys/apes doing human actions" kind of joking. So overused and the tongue-in-cheek is just immature and not nardly.

It's kinda like "that's what she said"
No it's not original but yet, if you set your bud up for it and he doesn't say it, something's feels off.
I'm not sure what you were expecting. This being a game that had Scooter referring to his moms girl parts being ripped and had you collect 100's of brains for an f'ing gun (that actually sucked monkeyballs for me) It seems entirely within it's character to end it's level cap at 69.

So, is it being boosted 8 levels, or is it being boosted to level 69? Because if it's getting boosted to 69, that makes it pretty much pointless to for the 2 people who don't have General Knoxx to get it.

@Gibbeynator Unless thye're achievement whores or they want an extra 5 hours worth of gameplay. General Knoxx dlc is arguably better than the main quest itself.

Yeah so what if people don't have General Knoxx. Do they automatically go up to 69 or do they go up to 58 and only go to 69 if they get Knoxx DLC?
