Pitchford: Duke Nukem Forever demo an 'important thing to do'
61
So you weren't at PAX last weekend, and didn't play Duke Nukem Forever? Well, then you probably agree with Gearbox's Randy Pitchford when he says that a playable demo for the mythical title is probably "an important thing to do." That's not a confirmation but, now that the cat's out of the bag, the company will start investigating ways to effectively market the game. Putting a demo in the hands of a skeptical audience is a good start, if PAX is any indication.
If you missed it, you might still think of Duke Nukem Forever as vaporware, and remain convinced that Gearbox told PAX attendees that "it would be really funny" if they all pretended the game was playable. Wouldn't it be nice to lay your extremely paranoid fears to rest?

A demo for any game is an important thing to do. It's just that not all demos reach the public (just preview codes for press).

I played a ton of Duke Nukem 3D.
What great Multiplayer.
Pipe Bombs, Laser Trip Mines, Holo Duke (Halo Reach is not the inventor of holographic decoy), Jet Packs, and the Chicken Shrink Ray!!! Anyone remember that one! You get shrunk down and the guy who shrunk you has 1 minute to Step on you. Freaking Awesome!
There was moving vehicles in some user maps... Oh yeah, there were user maps! Mirrors, toilets, light switches, etc, all worked.
And that was 1996!!!
I'm still waiting for a developer to make multi-player with half that stuff!!!

I won't ever pay for a demo. A demo is meant to pre-sell someone on their product. Try before you buy.
I really hope this is a good game but I am still oh so very skeptical.

I still feel like I'm in a parallel universe. Like somewhere along the line, superboy prime punched reality and we all got thrown into the wrong dimension where Duke actually exists.

@original fred I tipped off Joystiq to this. Gave you credit for the link.
I've been waiting for DNF since... uh.. forever, and I WANT the 3DR vision of DNF. Hearing Gearbox did so much was awesome, since I'll get to finally play the game, but kind of off-putting, cause I wanted the 3DR feel. Having read that, I am SUPER hyped at getting to play it. After the second and third resets (scrapping DNF and starting over) me and a friend discussed how somebody should REALLY take the game out of their hands in an advanced stage and finish it for them, because apparently they've messed up the last stretch thrice already.
On the other hand I don't just want a Duke game, with the Forever subtitle, made by someone else. I want the real deal, and that's what we're getting, so... why's there no credit on the box. I get why Gearbox takes full credit - their money, their franchise. But for an old school fan, who's been waiting on this game ever since the first ever screenshot of the jeep and the rocket launcher on the modified Quake engine was leaked, I really, truly, honestly want what 3DR made, the original vision, and I won't settle for less. This made me want to buy it even more, but also to cockslap Randy on the mouth for being a Liar McDouche. Sorta.

Of course its important. If people are actually PLAYING it, then they will believe it's real.
I still don't, nor will I ever until I'm playing something.
