I kept thinking that this weekend...they're like on a rampage.
Which is good.

I'm pulling for that new Borderlands sequel to blow the first game away. I don't want to see a "New Vegas" type of game which is basically new environments and no substance. Oh and maybe this time the story will actually carry some weight with it.

@Solace

I'm praying very hard that it's a much more polished experience. Like...there'll be a mini-map and the direction of my character will actually be pointing in the direction of how they're facing. And clearer indications as to where I'm supposed to go on the map to drop off mission items.

Also hoping there'll be more consideration of fast travel...I'm playing the Knox DLC right now and I don't know if it's just me, but all the back-tracking's gotten painful (though I was forewarned about this on Joystiq, I thought this was a trivial issue; it's not).

If anything, New Vegas feels like a KOTOR 2. A story that's far more ambitious and involving than its prequel, but reletively light on engine/gameplay changes. Until the Fallout series moves to id Tech 5, I'd rather they work on that than try to cram more mechanics into the rickety Gamebryo engine.

I dunno, they were pretty big before Borderlands. They did the Half-Life expansions, they helped with Counter-Strike, they worked on Halo PC, and they did the Brothers in Arms games.

I really like the Brothers in Arms series, so I'm glad to hear a new one might exist someday. Those games always had a certain personality to them, and the squad orders were great.

@Sleeping Lesson I wish every FPS with supporting characters or even back up npcs had such a simple and useful squad system.

Brothers in Arms seems like a good series, although the last entry got panned really hard. I picked it up on the cheap, haven't gotten around to playing it, maybe now's a good time before Fallout: NV comes out.

@8bitartist

Everyone outsources servers to Gamespy. Most developers/publishers inked a lucrative deal nearly a decade ago with them, and now they are hurting because of it. i.e. EA.

Wonder if the "big" unannounced thing headed by Pitchford himself is the Halo 4 they were so long ago rumored to be doing. It sorta fits, they announced it in 08, they havent talked about it at all, the studio's head is behind it. Maybe, just maybe

Why Gearbox instead of Bungie for Halo 4?

@kentuckyfried Well Bungie has always said Reach is their last Halo, and they seem pretty committed to it. But there was a rumor about a year ago, maybe almost two by now, gearbox had been tapped by 343 to make the true Halo 4

@TheDarkWayne They have never said they are making a Halo game. What they did say was that they were working on "Duke Nukem Begins". Halo 4 or what ever the next installment will be named will be made by 343 Industries.... obviously.

@Hicks ...Yeah

So here's the deal - 343i are an IP company, not a developer. They will outsource the Halo universe to those who they deem the right people to work with it.

That was the rumour - that 343i are getting Gearbox to make halo4.

I'm kinda feeling Brothers in Arms being set in Vietnam. Just maybe someone will finally give us a game worth a damn set in that time frame.

@DaDragonsFire Check the official BiA forum... it is very clear the next game will have a snowy setting.

@Hicks Does that mean doing Korea would be a possibility? Why? Talking about a snowy environment could mean they're possibly doing the Chosin Reservoir...

I hope they let Brothers in Arms go. After seeing what they had to offer with the previous game in the series its obvious that other dev teams have moved much further ahead in the military shooter genre. The only direction they can possibly take the series is being more like Call of Duty like other shooters are doing. I prefer not to have more of that.

I also don't think its healthy to have so many projects under their belt. These days game sales are very sensitive, so if you are going to make a game and want a lot of attention for quality work, you should be really focused.

Gearbox burst right into my heart with Borderlands, I'm hoping they announce that they're working on a super badass sequel. With more open enviroments, deeper story, and some more co-op elements.

Same here. Borderlands quickly became one of my favorite games and I can't wait for the sequel since I'm sure that there will be tons of awesome new stuff in it.

Highway to hell was disappointing to me. I was really looking forward to it and I basically played through it once and shelved it. I mean, the franchise was established around the theme of being a tactical shooter where you command your squad mates, then they put in a few levels (really really BAD levels) where you are by yourself.

Here's to hoping that the BiA franchise ends as a trilogy and takes baker and his men to the battle of the bulge and ultimately germany.
