@Ezio Auditore da Firenze It really would fit quite perfectly.
After the year's out, I think Joystiq should publish a Where's Wally style DSG book.

I'd buy one.

Well, at least something Scott Pilgrim related is having success. It is such a huge shame that such a good movie is flopping (with no good reason). Here's to hoping that the movie does well on DVD, like the director's other movies.

Maybe everyone is tired of seeing the same actor portray the same roles in every movie he ever plays?

Nope, just it was thrown against "The Expendables", which well... has a hell of a lot more power behind the name. Its also based on a source material not everyone is probably aware of...

But it certainly isn't cause of Micheal Sera.

Yeah, chalk it up to opening in the same week as the expendables. IMO it should have opened the week before. The only competition would have been that stupid Zac Efron chick flick.

And don't complain about Michael Cera always playing the same roles. He's perfect for it, so why not?

Well some of it is sure to be the Expendables, but I think you've also got to take into account that the material (and just as important, the marketing for it) doesn't exactly scream mass appeal.

Seemed as though there was a lot of people who were instantly discounting it as either being too "hipster, "fanboy", or simply "trying too hard" without even knowing a lick about it.

Just hope it didn't cost too much to make. Movies don't have to be flops if they were made on a dime.

Sadly, it has only made half of its budget back. Budget was $60 million, and it's only made $35 million (and that's only if you include foreign grosses).

Still, I think it might make it up in home release sales, since Edgar Wright's films end up being cult classics with good DVD sales.

While he is good at the role, its just that he not only plays that same character in every movie he is in. It's that every movie he is in seems like a couple each year. I really don't find that "character" that entertaining the first time, so why would I like to see him in movie x, y, z the next years doing the same thing? He was fine in Superbad, meh in Juno, terrible in Year One, meh in Nick and Nora. I think I have given him enough chances to change my opinion without success to not see his stuff for anything other than the price of "free", like when it hits cable.

@Themoreyouknow - The movie studio did everything in their power to limit the exposure of Michael Cera in the marketing campaign that led up to the launch of the movie. What this means to me is that they thought his presence in the movie would turn viewers off, but also that his presence didn't really deter anyone. We (we being S.P fans) knew he was in it, but the mainstream audience had absolutely no idea. Since the wide audience didn't know about him being in it, he couldn't have been much of a factor. The truth is that the mainstream audience really just had no idea why they should see the movie.

I place the blame squarely on the movie studio for launching it against The Expendables (despite far greater windows earlier in the year), and for marketing it poorly. I've said it once, and I'll say it again; "An Epic of Epic Epicness" tells you absolutely nothing about the movie. The trailer was equally vague. From the trailer you get the information that the movie has fights centered around Scott Pilgrim fighting Ramona's seven evil exes. At no point does it attempt to say why he's fighting for her, or explain that the movie (and the source material) is equal parts action and indie romance. Men went to see The Expendables, Women went to see that romantic comedy that launched, and a handful of nerds like us went to see Scott Pilgrim (not nearly enough of us nerds unfortunately)

Well, whatever. I'd say the creators career as anything other than a comic book writer/artist is dead unfortunately (unless this thing does huge numbers on DVD/Blu-Ray). It's nice that he can unequivocally call the game based on his comic a success though.

@MastaQ it really is a shame the movie is flopping. I went with friends last night and I have never had such a huge nerdgasm in my entire life. It was EPIC! But, hopefully, DVD and Blu-Ray sales will help them make a profit. And I so totally didn't buy the game after seeing the film *shifty eyes*

@Themoreyouknow - I'm talking about the posters, and all of the other promotional materials. The commercials are the exception, since they couldn't very well not show the titular character of the movie in them. Maybe it is the blogosphere overreacting, but a lot of pundits have come to the conclusion that Michael Cera was hidden away during the promotion of this movie, mostly due to the poor box office performance of bombs such as "Year One". I doubt we'll ever know if this is true or not, but it seems plausible to me at least.

Well, except for improved menus and graphical improvements it's relatively the same, maybe a bit faster. If you're not into JRPG combat you're probably not going to like the combat in it. Still, it's hard to say what someone else will like, you should give it a try. I'd still recommend it to anyone.

But the characters have their own styles, unlike in FF VII where you could customize each character however you want. Not that that's a bad thing, but I think it takes away some of the personality of the character.

The combat is still turn-based but it's a bit faster and the Magic/Ability system isn't broken like the Materia system from VII. Each character actually serves a unique purpose, unlike in VII (and VIII) where every character is essentially the same (except for the Limit Breaks) due to every ability/magic/summon being available for each character to equip/use. FFIX takes some strategy deciding on who to take into battle (and how to use them once in battle) because of this. Buy it, it's a better game than FFVII by far.

The comic was awesome and the movie also was epic, and so the game. I'm glad that the game is selling well, it is cheap and have a lot of replay value.

'Twas an amazing game with one glaring flaw... no online co-op. Then again, that same comment can be used with the likes of Trine and DeathSpank.

Either way, this was one hell of a summer for downloadable titles... After Burner Climax, Rocket Knight, Castle Crashers, Scott Pilgrim vs the World, Earthworm Jim HD and DeathSpank were nothing great, fun and/or amazing in their own unique ways.

Strange how a highly bugged game like this is top selling. I mean, i love the concept, the visuals, the music, and even the gameplay, but my god haven't seen a game full of bugs like this in years. Music stopping, freezes, enemies not appearing, itens yielding wildly...

It's a shame they rushed it to release with the movie.

I thought the movie would be pandering to geeky things and therefore come off as trying too hard, but it actually was a really great film. It had some geek touches but not done in a 'trying to be geeky' sort of way.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead is an added benefit. Been a fan of her for a few years now since Final Fantasy 3, and she is a great up and coming star.
