I was afraid the graphics weren't going to be anything special. The gameplay does sound brilliant and charming though. Like Mario Sunshine but with a paint brush and thinner.

I don't know if you've been following the game, but your guardian will act as your conscience and afaik visually reflect which path you are going down to an extent.

Also the game will have multiple endings and if you watch the latest in-depth video of the starting area with Spector's comments, you will see that the game tracks most if not all of what you do and adjust to it, not by some simple visual adjustment, but change to the actual gameworld and behaviours and already mentioned endgame.

It's an irrelevant point because it's on the Wii. Accept it. Try comparing it to other Wii games. Otherwise, by that logic, we should be concerned about every Wii . . . if only Galaxy had released on the 360 or PS3.

I don't think it's irrelevant to wish it had been released on a more powerful console. Anyone who plays the wii and the other consoles has that feeling from time to time. If you don't, you're kidding yourself. (This is Disney's ip as opposed to just Nintendo's.)

I think it looks like a day one buy, but I won't lie to myself and say it couldn't look better. With a game based so much on dynamic visual characters and painting, more graphical power might equal more immersion for some. Besides, it's not wrong to want even more for an ip people care for.

If you're writing a preview or a review, talking about the game you want rather than the game exists is irrelevant. It's the problem with too movie critics who write about the movie they wish the director had made instead of the one that was made.

The fact is that this game is a Wii exclusive, so criticizing it for not being on the 360 or PS3 is the definition of irrelevancy.

People manage to segregate their expectations of games based on platform all the time. I can't imagine someone criticizing a DS game for being available on the 360 or PS3. Why should a Wii exclusive be any different.

It's like wishing you were dating . You can talk about it all you want, but it's not reality.

The problem with your thoughts on this is that (p)review writing is an entirely subjective affair. How does one decide how one feels about a game (or book, or movie, or album, for that matter) without comparing it to the expectations/desires one has for said game (book/movie/album)?

I'm playing Other M right now, and it looks awesome. It even looks good on my HD set through crappy composite cables. Does that mean that it looks as good as I'd hoped? Absolutely not. Every time I play a Wii game, I see jaggies, and it makes me sad. It doesn't mean the game is bad, but it does mean the game is on the Wii. And if it wasn't on the Wii, I probably wouldn't see jaggies, and would, in turn, be happy about their non-presence.

Sub-par graphics detract from the level of immersion one feels when playing a game, because they are an obvious reminder that one is playing a game.

No More Heroes is coming PS3, LA Noir is coming to Xbox 360, Mass Effect 2 is coming to PS3, Street Fighter came to Genesis. It does happen, and some just would like a game more if it was on a different system. I want some games to come to PS3 because I don't want to pay for online multiplayer, that's a valid want.

Saying how we might enjoy a game more even if it won't come true doesn't mean it's useless to say. Maybe other people would also like it that way, maybe one strange google search will show up on at the game developer's screen and he'll say "you know, it would be better that way", maybe a genie will grant our wish and it'll happen. Who knows, but it's still about the game and so it's still relevant.
This art style a more powerful hardware could look or at least display better. That's a fact and a valid fact. It's opinion to say if you like or dislike what the Wii outputs on HDTVs, which is again valid. It's still about the game which is being discussed.

It's not like anyone is saying "this game sucks cause it's on Wii!" that wouldn't be valid at all.

Oh and some people like Clash of Heroes better on DS and don't think they will like it on the 360 because it's such a fun portable pick up and play game instead of a sit down and play for long game. Opinion is funny like that.

I have all three consoles and I don't care at all that it's not available on anything else. This looks like it will be a nice showcase for the Wii - one of those great, rare exclusives not made by Nintendo. The Wii can be every bit of a "hardcore game machine" that the PS3/360 are if developers would just put some damn effort and passion into their games.

That's true about the game being a "showcase" for the Wii, and I can't argue about how good it is for Wii owners to have good 3rd party game. But why does this have to be an EXCLUSIVE game? What do Wii owners gain by getting an exclusive? Doesn't it just matter that there IS another good game out for the Wii? Sure, in theory, an exclusive should ensure good Wii controls since game development was Wii-centric, but...

I have all three consoles, too, but would rather play an action/adventure game like this mapped with 360/PS3 controls and if given the choice between having it on the Wii or 360/PS3, I would choose the latter for the better graphics. Now, whether one can consider the Wii capable of being a "hardcore game machine" is open for debate, but it is definitely fact that the 360/PS3 are capable of far better graphics.

I'm not a Wii hater, I just am disappointed by certain game exclusivity which does not benefit the consumer.

I don't think that's up to debate at all. Games make the system, the system just improves the games. "Hardcore" isn't something restricted by hardware, it's a style and concept restricted by the developers and the outlook of consumers.

That's not debate, it is CAPABLE of being a "hardcore" game machine. Whether the unequal ratio of good-to-great games to shovelware games affect the system's "hardcore-ness" IS up for debate.

Haha, by offering your argument, you just proved my point that it IS open for debate. My statement wasn't implying that the Wii is definitely not a hardcore game system or definitely is a hardcore system, I was merely saying that whether you consider is capable of being a hardcore system is entirely open to discussion (i.e. open to debate, your opinion, etc.)

"Hardcoreness" is an entirely subjective term, so whether you consider the Wii capable of "hardcoreness" is entirely subjective as well and thus not fact, but open to preference/opinion/discussion.

This is just getting silly.

All other examples such as Monster Hunter Tri or deBlob would've been great examples... Metroid: Other M, though amazing, IS a Nintendo game. Using that as an example is kinda' like saying "I'm just saying Halo would've been great with Wiimote controls" or "This rice-bowl restaurant would benefit with sandwiches on their menu"...

Actually I'm just responding to posts that I actually have something to say about. ...because honestly, I don't have much to say about this game other than "I'll get it, but I'm not sure what to expect". Which isn't too much of an opinion.

And there ARE rice bowl restaurants, restaurants that mostly serve rice-bowl items, rather than noodle houses or sushi shops.
...because I don't like sushi and I get tired of noodle houses, yet I never get tired of beef bowls. Obviously these are just generic Japanese restaurants to the average US and Canadian consumer, but there's a huge difference between those types of restaurants to those who have a specific appetite.

"This was not the pleasant-enough platformer I had expected"

It's sad that not even guys who write about games have realized this before now, after getting a hands-on. I mean it's not like this was the game's reveal, but we had Spector talk about all this from the start and especially lately there's been a lot more info. Hell, the moment we knew Spector was working on this, people with a bit of industry knowledge should've realized this wasn't going to be simple platformer.

As far as graphics go, sure it'd look better in HD, but would I want to play it on a gamepad and use the joystick to aim my paint and thinner? God no, at least graphics won't break my enjoyment of the game just because they are SD.
Regarding exclusivity I would maybe feel for people if that didn't only happen when something comes out on the Wii only. Nobody complains much when FPS games do not come out on PC. Just when it's not coming to Xbox360 or PS3 it's suddenly unjust.

@gLitterbug I don't know, I do feel like it's a shame when certain games are exclusive, regardless of the system. I cheered when BioShock was announced to be released on the PS3 because I knew more people would have access to its awesomeness.

And, to be fair, there ARE a lot of PC-only games that never come out on consoles that console players miss out on as well.

"And, to be fair, there ARE a lot of PC-only games that never come out on consoles that console players miss out on as well."

More like A TON of PC-only games...
Mind you, I don't *often* hear console-only gamers despairing over not having a PC-exclusive game (only despairing over mod-community content) - - but I do hear PC-only gamers getting pissed about home-console-exclusives (if they get a taste of it... listen to the Fable and Halo PC-only communities).

I think if the developer WANTS it to be a console-exclusive, then let it. It's their idea, they can do what they wish with it. But if it's the producer that wanted it, then yeah - yell at him/her all you want.
I'm just glad it's a Wii exclusive for only one reason: When games like this (platforming-genre) are available for all consoles, the Wii gets the short end of the stick because the developer suddenly feels like they don't need to try too hard for it (which is actually the opposite: The more restrictions you're given, the harder you should work to make it perfect... unless you're *just* in it for the money). When they're Wii-exclusives, their sales can suffer due to the rather finicky "hardcore community" of the Wii - but they do get extra attention and become fine-tuned to the controls. (or at least, that's what's SUPPOSED to happen)

Sure but if Wii owners whined every time a game comes out on the other consoles (take your example of BioShock, say), it would get pretty old pretty fast, right? Pretty much all those games *could* have a Wii version, albeit with obviously worse graphics. If you own a Wii, you get about two good third-party exclusives in a year plus as many first-party - seems pretty harsh to complain about it while PS3/60 (as a combined platform) gets dozens of good 'exclusives' every year.

For a game like this which has its core gameplay mechanic based around the Wii controls, and which has its audience aligned with the Wii demographic too, it seems particularly perverse. (I guess it would work fine with PS Move too - but that wasn't available when the game was in development.)

I think people in this thread have the wrong idea. I have nothing against Wiis or Wii owners --- *I* own a Wii (two, actually). Just like I find it a shame that BioShock didn't reach PS3, I also find it a shame that certain titles don't reach the Wii that I would think would work well on it. Problem is, the Wii DOES have less capability when it comes to running a lot of the AAA graphics-intensive titles that are released on 360/PS3, so there are not that many PS3/360 exclusive games I feel would be a good fit for the Wii. Though, there are also not that many Wii exclusives I feel would be a good fit for the 360/PS3. I just feel Epic Mickey would be one of the games that would also work well on other platforms.

If you HAVE a Wii, and your ashamed that *more people* aren't gonna get to experience it -- i say this to you: If there's one console to be exclusive on it's the Wii, as more people HAVE one than any other system, and anyone who doesn't... can get a fully functional one for only 200 bones!

I see what you're saying about it needing to get OUT THERE more, but if this is to be a polished experience-- i'm almost 100% sure multi-platforming it right out the gate would mar the final quality. Plus, who wants to PAINT with a analog stick? Who hooks their Dualshock up to their PC and jumps on microsoft paint with it? Really?

Oh let me guess, it could support PlayStation Move? I'm sure this has been in development ALOT longer than PS Move has and the Wii deserves it first as it was the innovator of the *wand* technology.

Also, to all you graphic whores (hell i'm one of em) do know that when a game is technologically constrained -- one of two things happens: 90% of the time the graphics look and feel like the technology that's running them ... BUT ... (wait for it) .... the other 20% of the time forces the developer to have to TRY to make their game look good. No more slapping on a high res texture pack, some Unreal Engine luster & calling it cake. They actually have to have their artists go above and beyond to make sure the experience your getting is unlike anything you've ever played before (all systems included).

That said, i think we will get a re-release on PS3 with Move support, i really do. I still think it's best that it comes out on Wii first for polish reasons (as mentioned above) and because the Wii deserves it, plain & simple. I mean c'mon-- together -- Mario & Mickey will take over the universe! Plus, a re-release would most likely mean EXTRA content which in a game like this, content is what it thrives off of as the universe is filled with almost 100 years of content! Now, let's see how much they can fit on a standard DVD. . .
