"Even with Microsoft's alleged 30 percent cut, one can estimate that Capcom made roughly $1.15 million off the experiment in less than a week."

Can you confirm that the 300,000 number is PAID versions and not just downloads? I am guessing it will include people like me who just downloading the demo version of it i expect. Its not really a big surprise that lots of people want to try something for free :p

I had to go to the Gamerbyes source to confirm that indeed those are *sales*. The way joystiq reports it, they are just *downloads*. I downloaded it too, and had great fun with it, but I never bought it.

To be honest, the $5 dollar price tag was what really got me interested. Before Case Zero, I wasn't really hyped for DR2, only a bit interested. I thought CZ would be a good way to know if I really wanted to buy DR2. Since I had 400 points lying around in my account, I went ahead and bought it. And now that I've played through it 3 times, got all of the achievements, and had a crap load of fun playing it, I have to say it was the best thing I have ever paid 5 bucks for. I can't wait for DR2 now.

Though, had it cost any more, I wouldn't have cared for it.

I don't see what the big deal is about this game... Played the first, got bored of it in approximately 45 mins. DLed case zero, got bored in approximately the same time frame... IMO this game is wayyyy overrated.

As good as it may be for $5, it's almost literally a steal for free. You still get to play for a whole game day, finding stuff and whacking zombies. Then you even get a final score screen. OK, so you can't save or score achievements (and I'm sure some other things are missing) but so what? Free fun for hours. Who can thumb their noses at that?

Case Zero made a big step in giving us DLC in a interesting way. The game has a self-contained story, much more content than a demo (so please don't call this a demo people), list of achievement, and most importantly it's very fun.

They announced this DLC a long time ago and said they are putting out an extra set of resource just to make this DLC, so obviously it isn't a cheap move to cut something out from the full game at the last minute. However, I can see other cheap publishers (like Activision) exploit this strategy and REALLY cut part of their game out and sell it like this.

Hope everyone enjoyed Capcom's $5 demo-bait experiment. It did very well financially, and gamers spoke with their dollars, er, I mean space bucks.

Now let the flood of paid demos commence!!!

Spoken like someone who didn't even bother to try the free demo of it. Nice assumptions you got there.

Trolling old comments, I guess? OK, I didn't know there was a free demo for the paid demo. Being a PS3 and Wii owner, I'm not allowed to play Case Zero.

But while you're reading old stories, HBG, take a look at this one: http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/24/capcom-calls-dead-rising-case-zero-most-dynamic-sales-weapon/

The gist of it is that my above statement was right:
"It's the most dynamic sales weapon we have ever had in our arsenal, giving us the equivalent exposure of a multi-million pound TV campaign," Capcom's UK product manager Karl Reader told MCV. "We foresee other publishers will follow suit."

We get to pay to experience their "dynamic sales weapon?" Oh, how wonderful for those who love to pay to be marketed to! So more paid demos/trials/snippets/prequels/whatever the hell you want to call them are on their way, which was the point of my comment in the first place. Hope I didn't assume too much there...
