"Let me get this all down before I move on to something more exciting, like a documentary on how they make packing peanuts."

That actually sounds interesting.

/goes to watch 'How it's Made'.

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze - I just watched a show where they cook with packing peanuts... does that count?

I feel sorry for him.

Having to live without peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in no way to live.

I think that the conversation in this thread perfectly explains how dull HAWX 2 is

and how great peanuts are.

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze - My friend can't eat anything with Gluten in it. What this means is: No pizza, no cheeseburgers, no sandwiches, and basically nothing that is in any way delicious.

I could go without peanuts, but I'm not sure I could go without cheeseburgers and pizza.

HAWX 1 and the demo of HAWX2 didn't really persuade me to bother any further. Hopefully the next Ace Combat will be good.

Well, another $60 saved. I really liked the gameplay in the first HAWX (the story not that much), but the demo they put out on XBL a couple of weeks back made me scratch my head. Felt like a totally different (and far worse) game.

And seriously, ANOTHER nuclear holocaust? Didn't they already do it in the first game? THREE TIMES?

While I agree that the single player of this game is really lacking, you completely left multiplayer out of your review, which was the major reason for myself and all of my friends' purchase of this game.

This review is based on a pre-release version of HAWX 2 for Xbox 360 provided by Ubisoft. It took five hours to complete.

Multiplayer functionality was unavailable on the build sent to Joystiq.

@crenom That it was pre-release doesnt change the thrust of the review. Anyone that's played the demo would agree that it's really pretty tame as dog fighting/aircraft simulator games go. It's not terribly bad, just very "Meh".

I am trying to figure out what's worse.

The constant barrage of jokes in this review or the fact it sounds like you hardly played the game.

No comments on the plane mastery system or different game modes. As someone above me mentioned, you also failed to state anything in regards to the multiplayer.

You can easily see the fans of flight games when it comes to reviews. The authors who don't write nonsense like this.

Man, do I miss the old PS3/360 Fanboy days..

One reviewing strategy many publications/websites engage in is giving a game to a reviewer that isn't already a fan of the game's genre. Doing that helps to give a different - often, more balanced - perspective. Note that he did not say that it was bad, just that it didn't strike him as being particularly special.

The features you mention are things someone would care about if a game really grabbed their attention, if they enjoyed it. This is, perhaps, not a very objective review, as it focuses entirely on what was less-than-fantastic. But it gives an accurate picture of what this reviewer thought of the game.

As with any review, or indeed, any game, Your Mileage May Vary.

Either way, it sounds like they were going for a realistic modern military experience with Hawx 2, much like how modern warfare is to fps. I liked Hawx 1 for its arcade style Ace Combat gameplay. i think i will pass this time around

I just ordered this game bundled with a 460 for use with 3d glasses...I'vebeen reading a few reviews, and none of the reviewers have gone into any detail about the multiplayer. I think the most I've seen in terms of multiplayer reviews was a brief mention of the leveling system, and also that the reviewer got pwnt. I think these reviewers need to brush up on their multiplayer gaming skills in order to review multiplayer games! I also didn't see anything about flying NOE or anything pilot-y, although I guess that's because airplanes are illegal, like most other impressive things. Well, not totally 100% illegal, just with enough red tape so 99.9999% of people can't have one. Anyways, I can't wait to try the multiplayer and using the mountains as cover and whatnot, in 3d nonetheless. Haven't played a good flight sim in a while...I think the last one I played was single player crimson skies, and I remember some red baron multiplayer fondly...anyways, I think this looks like a multiplayer oriented game and the reviewer is clearly a nub.
