Rock Band 3 trailer shows off the power of love (and keyboards)
32
Don't call it a keytar! If you've been waiting for a chance to see Rock Band 3's new keyboard in action, Harmonix delivers just that in its latest trailer for October's music/rhythm release. We're certainly enticed by its addition to regular gameplay, but that Pro mode? Well, we'll leave it to ... someone else.

Can we please get confirmation on the availability of a left-handed six-string Pro guitar? If Harmonix or MadCatz won't be providing one at launch, is there a third party left-handed MIDI guitar we CAN use?
I've pre-ordered the RB3 + keyboard kit for PS3, and want to pre-order a left-handed MIDI pro guitar as well. C'mon Joystiq, help a gamer out and get us an answer via the power of journalism!

I believe that for the pro guitar, only the madcatz one and the squire will work due to sensors built into the neck of the guitar. For pro drums and keyboard, you should be able to use any ones that have a MIDI out, but I think those 2 are the only pro guitars available.
As for whether they will build left-handed pro guitars, it's possible but I haven't heard anything to that effect.
Anyways, I'm SO excited for this game.

There's an adapter that will let you use MIDI keyboards and drums. RB3 is finally going to give me a reason to dust off my crummy old Oxygen8.

@Limit3d I think you can get it in a box of Cracker Jacks. Makes sense seeing how both of those things are so relevant in today's world...

I think that Warriors of Rock looks good, and the set list (in my opinion and based on the music I enjoy) looks better than RB3's...
But whatever, you have fun with Rock Band 3, I'll have fun with Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock. :)

I'm actually one of the five people that hasn't purchased Rock Band. Rock Band 3 looks like the one I want to jump on, but I haven't seen a FULL bundle set....just sets with the keyboard. Is there going to be a full band set?

@Misfit Toy I'm thinking that, due to the high price of all the instruments separately, they're only going to have separate bundles so that they don't turn off potential customers with a full bundle that would cost something like 500$ altogether.
Considering that most people have an instrument or part of the band they like to play, it makes sense. You'd get together with your friends who have each of the other instruments for a rockin' party.

don't like that they're saying the notes are accurate when I can see the notes played on "Everybody Wants to Rules the World" are different from what should be played
I don't want people learning the song through rock band then playing this off key or completely wrong X__X

I guess keyboards are necessary to play today's hipster music.

For what it's worth, I'll be laughing right with you. There's no way a program on a video game will ever be able to teach people how to play an instrument properly.
I also agree about the setlist, it's weak compared to RB 1 & 2.

The keyboard part of the game definitely looks like fun, especially considering how much I've generally gotten bored with the other instruments in band-games. Considering I've already got DJ Hero 2 pre-ordered, I'll probably wait until sometime early next year to grab it. I'll probably be the only one among my friends who would actually want to play the keyboard. :P

Any word on whether the track can be changed to look like sheet music (oriented horizontally) instead of the usual rhythm game vertical scrolling?
That would make a HUGE difference for translating video game learning to real world playing

I do not think they will have a full bundle. They're not updating the guitars for this game and Harmonix has stated that they are out of the hardware business. There will be a keyboard/game bundle, but that's as far as it goes.
This is good though you can find the instruments cheap these days

I don't get why so many "musicians" feel so threatened by the music game genre, or hate on it for players playing on fake plastic instruments. These are games, and just like playing Madden doesn't teach a person how to take a hit on a football field, the simulation is just plain fun. Some people need to stop taking themselves so serioulsy and just enjoy these games for what they are. It's not like you have to choose between playing Rock Band or being in a rock band. I do both, as do many other people who play these games. The two experiences are totally different and I've never heard a gamer claim that s/he was a real musician because they were good at a video game.

It would be awesome if you could use 2 keyboards for one player, because they can't really fit everything into that keyboard and for what I've seen yet and guess you only have to use one of the hands while playing the keyboard. Except if it's like 7 keys, 6 is manageable depending on where the 6th key is.
