I think that the Noble Six one seems more appropriate since that's your character.

Well apart form the fact that you can customise your character so this nobel 6 might look nothing like yours especially if you play as a female.

Don't worry, doods.

The trick to seeing what FFXII limited edition guide cover you get probably works on the Halo Reach guides too.

This trick is...?

I think this is actually a very cool idea, I was planning on picking up a guidebook and it's nice to know it will be a little (tiny) bit more unique & collectible.

Obviously most people who browse Joystiq regularly aren't the usual type to buy guidebooks because the internet is FREE and more provides much more guides & tips. The internet is also a wealth of videos guides which cover just about everything you would need to know to get 100% completion for Reach.

However, the reason I'm planning on picking up a guidebook is not for the "help" it offers, but the insight it provides for the little things- the unimportant, but infinitely awesome subplot stories, level design, and nitty gritty details in each level which I would probably overlook on my own. The fact that it's supposed to be a 'strategy guide' is just a small bonus for me.

Oh, and i like the purty pictures :]

The trick is to push the plastic/front cover from the top or bottom as much as you can in order to find out what cover that specific guide has.

And I rarely buy guides. I only buy a guide if:

1) I think it would be useful to have near me while playing.
2) It's for a game that just came out, meaning nobody has information on it right away on Gamefaqs, etc.

The last guide I bought was for Borderlands. Knowing where all the weapon chests were made me enjoy the game more.

I think the Emile cover is very unflattering.

His head shape looks strange...

You could always pick up the Legendary Edition guide, which has it's own unique cover artwork:

You know, since I stopped shopping at Gamestop nobody ever asks me for a strategy guide anymore. That's what I call a "win".

The only reason they ask if you want the strategy guide is because so many people buy them. Which is why they still make them. If it's selling like hotcakes, why stop. Also, the limited edition hard cover books make for really nice collectibles as well.

@Zoot Suit Jedi Grammar Hammer En -- Seriously, I laughed when I read something else earlier this week about people buying strategy guides. The stuff online is free, gets updated more frequently, can be more helpful (i.e., watching walkthrough videos for parts you can't figure out yourself), and you can access forums to learn additional tips/hints/glitches that other players have discovered. Unless you're collecting these guides or have no internet connection whatsoever, it's a waste of money.

Strategy guides aren't THAT big of a waste of money. Sometimes, you need tips on the spot, and not everyone has a cell phone with data. Although I do have a cell phone with data, I guess I just like to collect strategy guides

You have to keep in mind that nobody will know all the answers for a recently-released game (except the devs). So that is why a strategy might be useful instead of stalking Gamefaqs.

You know your franchise is big when you can sell varient covers of something where five of the six characters are wearing similar masks to the untrained eye and show no facial features.

Strategy Guides just aren't worth it to me unless they're like the Twilight Princess one, I.E. Hard cover, Golden, has the Zelda symbol on front, comes with a giant cloth map of Hyrule and the pages are golden. Now that's just cool to look at.

Unless this comes with a Spartan helmet, preferably Emiles, don't think I have any need for it -_-

Like how they have to give you a whole speech on what's the new deal they have when you call them up just to see if they have a copy of a game in stock.

Yes, sadly sales are the only thing most people are concerned about. Forget even trying to buy anything at best buy without them shoving the geek squad down your throat.

The Best Buys in my area have nothing but douche employees. Seriously.

They don't care about sales. They just want to piss you off by pretending that they don't have what you asked for in stock.

Me: Where are the routers located at?
BB Douche: We don't sell routers.
Me: Oh...(confused)
BB Douche: JK lol it's over there GG
Me: *wants to strangle him with his stupid blue shirt*

Oh yeah. I've had that. I had a moment of insanity and walked in there wanting to drop 2 grand on a laptop. Picked one out and had to wait fourty five minutes for a douche to tell me that they were out of stock. Why I couldn't have the display model? Probably because I kept bashing the idiocy of "needing" a two-year geek-squad guarantee.

Obviously, people buy strategy guides because they need to know how to beat a game. It has all the information you need, and without the hassle of the intarwebs and its hard google technology.
/sarcasm

From what I've seen, people buy them as a collector's item. So they can go sit down at their Pc/PS3/Xbox/Wii and look at the books collecting dust in the corner of the room, fapping at how cool they are.

Why yes, I would like a strategy guide. I like to read it while also reading the morning paper. And watching regular TV with commercials. And using Internet Explorer and seeing ads. And using my AOL internet service with AOL mail. I like the guy that goes "You've got mail." I plan to play this game on my 32 inch standard definition TV with the A/V cable set to TV mode. Also, what's all this GameFaqs I keep hearing about?

It's not an elitist comment. I'm just poking fun at strategy guides when you can view the same info online for free. Just like news, and TV shows, and many other things. And it will be outdated info in a few months when people find new tactics and post them online. Can the strategy guide offer real time updates and allow readers to post comments in a discussion board? Thought not.

I bought 2 guides, Fallout 3 GotY and DA:O. When I started buying them it was to sort of collect them and they are usefull first few days of release when little is on internet about them, but I must admit once you get used to the game you stop using them.

Who needs a guide for the game anyways? You just shoot people, that's what's great about Halo and other FPS games. It's easy to pick up and play. If you buy a guide for a standard fair FPS like Halo, I'm sorry, but you are quite thick in the head. It'll all be online the next day after someone beats the game, including the ending and likely an entire walk through of the game. The only thing you might need for Halo is a guide to the skulls, cause they are hard to find, but if you need to know how to beat Hunters and Elites still then you need to get with the program.

Actually, with all the waypointless sections of Halo 3 that got uber confusing, *ahem* the ship where Cortana is trapped, I guess that might warrant a guide of some sort... but not one that you payed for. Unless you are an uber collector and are going to buy all six of these just to say you have them I don't see a point in it. This isn't Final Fantasy, getting lost is hard. Plus with Halo you can always follow your own trail of blood back to where you need to be. :D

**If you buy a guide for the sake of helping you get through the game you are quote "thick in the head". I have no problem with collectors. I bought the limited edition FFXIII guide because there were so few of them and I thought it would be a nice collector's item.

There's a special website for the Halo Reach strategy guide:

http://haloreachstrategyguide.com

... go figure :-)

It has most of the Halo Reach strategy guides available, with some videos.
