QUOTED FOR TRUTH. Seriously who wants to give away their right as a consumer by not fully owning the product they buy? MP3s for a buck are one thing, Books might even be close at 5 bucks but a 15 or 20 dollar game? MADNESS.

@KrazyCalvin I understand a love of physical media, and definitely felt that way earlier in the generation, but I don't think I'd attribute much of the failure of the PSP go to people's general preference for the physical. Otherwise, we'd have to discount the success of Steam and the iPhone as gaming platforms.

I do think that, along with price, the lack of commitment to digital distribution is a significant factor. My psp physical broke, and I gave some thought to trading in my physical games for digital ones. Unfortunately, my favorite PSP game (Lumines) has never been ported and games continue to come out on disc only.

Yeah, I'd much rather carry around a bunch of discs with me everywhere I go than have convenience of having everything stored right there on my device.

@KrazyCalvin yea but see thats where the attempt comes in.....people like Apple like to tout have they sell move content than DS and PSP combined....yet a lot of people still want physical media....so who is buying the millions of "games" on the app store every year? Not gamers I take it?

But yet, this same site was screaming "Death to UMD's". Then the Go came out and you all loved UMD's again.

The games on the iphone cost between $1 and $5. PSP games cost upwards of $30. Big difference.

What really boils my hash is that PSN games cost the same as their physical media counterparts. I'm doing *Sony* a favor by sparing them the cost of physical packaging and media. They can't cut the price by a few bucks?

Only high end PSP games cost $30-$40.
The vast majority of games are in the $10-$20 range (at least on PSN)

And if you're comparing it to iPhone games which are mostly minigames, then you have to compare to PSP minis where are $1- $5.

'perhaps' its the fact theres no UMD, and not many people want digital. Nor do they want to rebuy games they already own incase they want to play them.

Add a UMD drive, and I will buy one. ;)

there is one! its called the PSP 3000... not only does it play digital games but UMD based ones aswell... isn't it crazy, i know!

The whole point of the Go was for it to be digital downloads only, adding a UMD will defeat the whole point and make it bulky.

I have a 3000 and I love it. I almost bought a psp go, but decided against it. The 3000 was just the better choice in my opinion. Also, I don't find it bulky at all.

Exactly.. and I personally wouldn't want any smaller of a screen than what's on my PSP 2000... The GO seems like such a niche product... I DON"T GET IT! lol

I have a go, and I hate how small the screen is, but it makes up for it by having a considerably better resolution than the 3000. It is quite a noticeable difference.

"perhaps"? really now? Theres been a few problems. 1. Price 2.PSN games should be cheaper than their UMD counterparts cause no production of discs needed 3. Games should be released on UMD and PSN on the same day(here's looking at you Birth by sleep)

The price was not an issue for me, and I love the design and extra features of the PSP Go over the original design. As a portable system, I also love the fact that my entire game collection can be stored internally without having to carry around a bunch of clunky UMDs. What I have not been so impressed about is that even right after it launched, it did not receive all that much support. That can be even more to blame than its price, in my opinion. If they planned to have a digital distribution only console be successful, they needed to ramp up the release of games available for it. Now that I cannot get Kingdom Hearts on my Go, I myself am about ready to throw it out a freaking window. And I will NOT be rebuying another PSP again this generation. You can count on that.

Yeah, KH: BbS is the first PSP game I'll be buying since I got Chains of Olympus a year and a half ago. I'm glad I have a PSP for the occasional game that interests me. I'd just be pissed if a game I did want came out and I couldn't even play it.

Perhaps? lol... how about its one of the main reasons, i mean its 50 bucks cheaper then a PS3... a full blu ray, uncharted 2, netflix playing PS3. The other reason is that not all PSP games are available for download. So not only do i pay more but i get less. What kinda shit is that.

The price should be $150 -$180 w/ bundled game.

Here are your options when buying a PSP:
1. Buy a PSP 3000 which supports both UMD and digital downloads
2. Buy a PSP Go, lose the UMD support and add about £50 to the price.

It has less functionality overall, a smaller screen, and can't play all the games on the platform. So Hirai admits that the higher price "MAY be an issue." Jumping jesus on a pogo stick. I know they have to put a positive spin on things, but damn.

I really don't understand the strategy with the PSPGo. I find it really hard to believe that Sony really thought it could "co-exist" with the PSP3000. In my opinion, they should have waited, added an analog stick and a touch screen and released it after the PS4.

Of course it's the price. Before I buy something over $100, I make sure I'm gonna use it almost every day. If the PSP Go was a phone, I would have gotten 1. Since it isn't, I got an iPhone instead.

Oh yeah, the PSP Go is $50 less than a PS3. Might as well get a PS3!

Plus the functionality of the Go is nearly identical to the 3000, so other than size, how do you convince the consumer they're getting a more for the money?

Man people just love to trash talk and gang up on the PSP Go, don't they? Why did everyone become such a bunch of haters?

Putting a UMD drive on the PSP Go is not the answer people - the whole purpose of the Go is digital ONLY! Adding a UMD drive would make the device way larger, AND more expensive. And you think it's unpopular now! The PSP Go was NEVER meant as an upgrade for existing PSP users. It's something for NEW users who have no existing UMD collection to cry about.

Me, I love it. I have like 30 games on this thing, it fits in my pocket, and I don't have to carry around ANY discs. Imagine walking around with 30 UMDs....

But the PSP Go could be a raging success overnight if the following were possible:

1) Drop the price by $50 (and improve battery life :P)
2) Add every single UMD title to the PSN library, and offer competitive pricing (although there there are often deals on PSN)
3) Offer a trade in program to get a PSN downloadable version of any UMD disc. The program should never expire.

Bear in mind - iPhone gaming is a raging success. Do people scream cause they can't trade in their games? No. Do they cry cause it doesn't play discs? No. But there was also no existing library of disc-based games.

And and can we make a PSP with a 2nd analog stick already? Please?

I agree. But another big problem for the Go! is that GameStop refuses to support it. Because the platform gets around the used games issue, they want nothing to do with it.

Yeah that's a good point. A big chunk of the hand held gaming market seems centered around places like Gamestop.

Where as the iPhone market is completely independent of Gamestop, although naturally is much more of a casual gamer market.

PSP Go gets kinda lost in the inbetween.

I think opportunity Sony screwed up on the PSP Go is not even trying to compete in the MP3 market. If Go had a much more powerful and functioning MP3 capability and tools like iTunes, and a 32Gb and 64GB version, it could have competed with the iPod as a sort of 3D gaming iPod.

Its not just used games, neither wal-Mart or Best Buy really made a big push for this thing. Retailers make no money selling systems or very little. The reason they do is to also sell accessories and games. Well the PSPGo has not physical games to sell and after I buy my car charger what other accessory am I going to buy? So no retailer really had an interest in selling the PSP Go. I am not sure why Sony thought retailers did not want to make any money on the device.

I actually like the concept of going digital only with PSP games. What I don't like is getting screwed on the pricing. More PSN sales and price drops would make it a lot more attractive. (And dropping the price on the Go by about $150.)
