Creat's support for the PlayStation Network seemingly has no end. Although the studio's TerRover was just released this week, Creat has already revealed its next game: Skyfighter, an "unabashedly retro" side-scrolling shooter. The gameplay looks straightforward -- players take control of a small fighter plane, gunning and bombing over 21 levels -- but that's to be expected of a title from a studio whose previous works include Hamster Ball and Smash Cars. Skyfighter will also have a multiplayer mode, but TheSixthAxis reports that it will be offline only.
Surprisingly, the game is arriving on the PlayStation Store for PS3 in just a "few weeks" time. Perhaps Creat wants Skyfighter to fly under the radar -- but we're certain the sales team wouldn't appreciate that.

Strange that so many scrolling shooters are being released/announced lately. There are the Minis (1 out now in the US (Ace Armstrong), 1 other one out now in Europe (Flying Hamster), 2 more announced in development (from FuturLab and Mediatonic)), and then Sine Mora from Grasshopper and now this. And Gundemonium Collection and Söldner-X2 came out fairly recently, too.
I'm not complaining.

I love old school shoot-em-ups!
Been playing them since Defender came out, and at home since Sanxion came out on the C64, great game!
I'll be buying this immediately that it's available, as I do with all of them.
One thing I do so WISH for, is that the Cave games would come out on the PSN. I bought Espgaluda 2 and DoDonpachi on my iPhone, and I think they're breathtaking. If I can play games of that quality on my phone, I'd LOVE to see them on my large LCD in 1080p.
I recently repurchased Silpheed - The Lost Planet to play on my old 60giger, but it's a bit slower paced than I remember.... I'd love to see some shmups come out for the PS3, that while retaining the same basic 2D gameplay, also take advantage of the graphical capabilities of the console, to wow us as well. I remember being so pleasantly surprised when Project-X came out for the PS1 (except for the difficulty)
Strange really, Japan seems to be home of the shmups, Sony are Japanese (I kid you not!) yet the PS3 does seem to lack some great shoot-em-up titles. I won't complain too much, Söldner-X 1&2 are great fun... but I do fancy something a bit faster paced, or a bit more hectic... those Cave games have me salivating again.
Anyway, sorry, got a bit carried away there... Roll on Skyfighter, I'll be buying it! Which reminds me, I bought Top Gun yesterday and haven't loaded it yet..... Cheers.

Creat is hit or miss for me. I loved the simplicity of Magic Orbz but I couldn't even finish the demo for TerRover. There's a difference between innovative controls and just plain frustrating controls. Considering I've been gaming for 20 years, I'd like to think that if I can't even beat the demo for a game, there's something wrong with the game and not me. That said, Skyfighter looks like it might be fun and I'm looking forward to trying the demo when it comes out. :)

Did they really have to name their company 'Creat'?
