If nothing else, this shows off just how customizable the multiplayer system in Reach actually is. Bungie has made it so that the priority is coming up with fun gametypes with your friends, not just tweaking for as many points towards Achievement as possible. Not that we don't appreciate sweet, sweet cheevos, but that's not the only reason we're Firefighting against the Covenant, right? Right?
Video: Halo: Reach Achievements made easy (and cheat-y)

Halo: Reach isn't even out in stores, but IGN has already found a way to exploit part of the game for the sake of easy Achievements. In this video, its outlines a surefire method for farming up a good amount of the game's cheevos by tweaking the customized Firefight system to be really hard and then giving yourself invincibility. Which means "you can basically shoot around in circles, and get massive amounts of points." Seems like fun ... we guess?

Whoever came up with the term 'cheevos' needs shot now.

I guess they get points for making this easier for lazy people. I plan on getting this legit, anyway.

Meh. I'd rather be legit about my achievements. That's ACHIEVEMENTS, not cheevos. Terrible nickname, sounds like Cheetos. Yum, Cheetos....

Yeah, because it's so much more fun to die over & over...
I think it is still JUST as fun. It's killing aliens either way. And that's what I want to do when I play Halo.
In fact, it's MORE fun because achievements that I might otherwise scoff at spending the time grinding out will now pop up during the course of an "easy" game. Big deal. We don't earn/win anything from achievements anyway.

Way to go IGN, make things harder on Bungie before launch why don't you? Now they have to spend the next few days slaving over a way to patch this. I guess it's better that they figure this out now so that when the game actually comes out there will be an update and when I get these achievements for real it won't be meaningless. Think of how big a bug this would have been if a game had found it after launch. Pretty much everyone would do this just because it's easy.

Eh, if they patch this one people will just find another way to do it.

I doubt they meant it that way, they probably just overlooked that. I've designed a few small games and it's pretty easy to overlook something like that. The thing is, they probably don't go into the game looking to cheat so they probably never came across this. Idk, but I do know if I were them I would care... but I suppose that could just be me. We'll probably get an update on launch that will take away the ability to get achievements with skulls turned on in custom Firefight. That's a pretty simple, pain free, way to fix this.

There's a 50,000 firefight points achievement that specifically requires you to do it with the standard rules. The other ones do not have this requirement.
Therefore it's obvious that Bungie intended us to be able to get these achievements with customization.
Does it mean that people can get it really easily with invincibility? Of course. But it also means we can get the achievements with our own super fun customized firefight rules.

Can anyone help me with the ODST achievements? Sorta off topic but I just got ODST last month and there is no Public matchmaking, so I need someone to help me with the Firefight missions. Add my GT: ph2802 if your willing to help.

We can help each other out if you still have the game or are still willing to play. And yeah, the devs said that we don't need matchmaking because they thought we should only play with the people we know. The only problem with that ideology is that NOT everyone will always want and have the opportunity to play a game at the same time. There is where public matchmaking should of come in.

@philmcfail One thing to keep in mind is that playing Firefight with other people mean you have to score 200k in one sitting, with no breaks. If you play solo, you can pause the game, take a break/eat/whatever, and return where you left off, fully energized. I completed some maps with my friends, but did the more frustrating ones on my own (cuz they were getting pissed/bored easily and I tend to be more patient). I would help you, but I don't have ODST anymore.

For most maps, I found them easier to do on my own. If your having trouble with the vidmasters, there is a group called "The Spartan 1 Project" on Bungie.net that helps people get them.

It might have taken me a year to get all the firefight achievements in ODST but damn it it was worth it, and if it takes me two years to get a million points in Reach that'll be worth it too!

Did you play firefight solo? I damn hard to find anyone that has ODST/willing to put it back in their disc tray to play now, and its only been out for less than a year.

@philmcfail i dont know why this didnt post the first time, but I got all the achievements except the two that required four players alone and within 2 months or so of release (with the exception of chasm ten) and even then it was hard to get all my friends together : /

Meh. I never cared for the achievement. I just play like normal and eventually surprise myself. I'd rather just play and feel rewarded for earning gamer points instead of working for them.

Not a big deal if you ask me.
If someone wants to get them this way more power to them.
To me it's not really cheating a achievement unless you absolutely go out of your way such as hacking to get them.
Since this isn't stopping anyone from getting them the way they want to.

i figured this would be possible when they announced the achievements, you could get all of the firefight ones in one game that lasts less than an hour,(probably) but at least you can't cheat for the solo legendary achievement, that will take real manliness =)

IGN, you never cease to amaze me. However, you amazed me in a bad way this time. You basically showed us how to make a fun game...well, not as fun. Sure, hand of god, destroy everything, earn achievements. I get it.
I'll be earning these legit on the default settings.

They're achievement points... Who really cares how they're obtained?
The satisfaction of earning them is not lessened by how others get them. I could care less if someone hacks, cheats, or takes a shortcut. Has no bearing on me and my enjoyment of the game.
