Swaddled in cotton, and hand-delivered by a MJOLNIR-clad stork, please welcome the newest addition to our video game family: Halo: Reach Legendary Edition. We didn't want to deprive you of the joys of living vicariously through this delivery, so we broke out the ol' DSLR and snapped off some pics, found in the gallery below. And don't worry, we'll be giving this mammoth package away to one of you soon enough.

Pardon me for my ignorance of the Halo lore, but..
Is that map supposed to be Earth? It looks like what Earth probably looked like millions of years ago, when the continents were in different positions.

I'm pretty sure that it is a map of Reach.

Haha, no, seriously.
Are we sure that Reach isn't Earth? Or does Earth currently exist elsewhere in the Halo universe?
I don't know, I'm probably crazy. It just struck me as I first looked at it, that it seemed to bear a lot of similarities to Earth, only pre-continent shift into their current positions.
Alright, continue to mock me, I'm going to work. =P

Yes, Reach and Earth both exist as very different planets in the Halo universe.
The original Halo facility was discovered because the USNC had instituted the Cole Protocol, which entailed ships making slipspace jumps to random coordinates when under threat of boarding by Covenant forces. The point of the Cole Protocol was to prevent the Covenant from discovering the location of Earth, either through accessing the ship's computers, or by following the ship through slipspace back to Earth.
Long after the attack on Reach, the USNC ship Pillar of Autumn came under attack by Covenant forces. As the battle turned south, Commander Keyes on board the PoA instituted the Cole Protocol. The random slipspace jump ended with the ship near the original Halo installation. Unthaw Master Chief, begin trilogy of games.
What? You asked.

@Violent Brown: Actually, the "random" jump the PoA took at the closure of the Battle of Reach wasn't actualy random: Cortana, the shipboard AI of the PoA, made that jump based on coordinates found in an ancient Forerunner rock on Cote d'Azure the Covenant were attempting to transcribe during the battle of Sigma Octanus IV.
Yes, I went there.

MGTrey is correct. The "random" jump was made unrandom by Cortona.
However it was very common for ONI ships to completely break the Cole protocol to save time. In the end it proved pointless anyways as the Covenant found Earth basically on accident in their search for the Ark of the Forerunner.

Bah, Halo fanboy fail. That's what I get for trying to pull all that from memory while I'm at work. Lousy stupid Barracuda, blocking the Halo wiki. Been too long since I played through Halo: CE, I guess.
Maybe there's still time before Tuesday...

Not going to happen...
The only left over ones are going to be the ones people "abandon" from Preorder/Ebay.
currently we already have stores fighting just to make sure they get the right amount of Pre orders. So unless you live in a Really Small town you may not get one

I preordered the Legendary Edition and don't know if I should have waited. I bought the Halo 3 Legendary Edition a year after it came out at $40 brand new. They said the Halo Reach one will be actually limited.

I'm getting the standard edition for now but if I can find a legendary edition a year or so later for about $40 I might pick that up as well.
