Hey MJ, did you happen to see that Microsoft tribute to you? They had this big internal celebration where they all dressed up and danced to Thriller. It was awesome.

Also, hurray for Team Ico games! Easily some of my favorite PS2 games.

Darn, what a tease. This could be more interesting than the God of War re-release from a technical perspective, at least for Shadow of the Colossus. The GoW's and Ico all "suffered" from PS2 era graphics, but each ran at a nice frame rate. SotC had a pretty terrible frame rate, but the developers wisely made some stylistic choices to compensate for it. If they upped the framerate outright, it may be awkward (mega motion blurring when the frame rate is solid?), yet if they don't raise it, that might also be awkward (as in: why didn't they improve anything?).

I think no matter what route they choose, it'll look good. If they higher the draw distance and keep the framerate consistent I honestly don't think motion blur will be a problem.

Obviously, the shadows glitch in this and that's why a re-release would be fantastic! Just look at this PC running it:

@sigma8 The graphics in those games are sub par even for PS2. The texture aliasing and such is all awful.

And the frame rate drop in the final boss in SotC makes the controls very unresponsive.

Good games, too bad the graphics are so compromised. Which is one reason to look forward to this new version so much.

@sigma8 - I'm hoping that we'll get a "directors cut" to go along with the higher resolution. Maybe it's a bit unrealistic, but there was so much content (colossi, an entire dam, the upper level of the SOW) that was left out of the retail release that it could potentially be awesome if that stuff were to be put back in.

Either way, I'll definitely settle for an HD version of SOTC that actually runs smoothly (it runs like garbage on my PC. Ico runs like a dream though). You can never have enough copies of SOTC/ICO (I'm up to two copies of SOTC, and three copies of ICO counting one PAL and two NTSC)

Only a few more days until Fumito Ueda takes the stage at TGS. I hope I don't miss the live stream.

It's not the graphics themselves, it's the PS2's limitations. Look at the link Wiizer posted. That bitch is sexy.

I've played lots of PS2 games in my day. This game doesn't even have average graphics. As much as I like the game, the graphics are poorly done.

Take a look at God of War on PS2 and tell me SotC's problem is the hardware.

@TraceurRyuk Prepping for LBP2 What are you talking about?

My point is the PS2 is capable of much more than ICO or SotC produces. For example, look at how great God of War looks on PS2.

ICO and SotC's mediocre graphics and SotCs horrid framerate cannot be written off to hardware limitations. The programmers just didn't do a good job with the graphics engine.

And I have no idea why people mark me down for this each time I say it. Just because the games have deficient graphics doesn't mean they aren't good games. And they will be even better when brought to PS3 and the frame rate problems are fixed.

@GordoJones88 - It's the worst kept secret in gaming this year. There was an Amazon France listing for "The Team Ico Collection" months ago. That, combined with this Wal-Mart listing, makes it all but certain that it will be announced at the Sony press event on the 16th.

This is exactly what I want before The Last Guardian. But unlike the God of War Collection, I don't want this game to run at 60 hertz. It would look much more like a movie if it only ran at 30.

Actually, it wouldn't. Movies are pre-rendered to be smoothed, that's why they look OK at 24fps. At 30fps, games look less like movies than when they are at 60fps.

That's more of a Konami thing, but I'd love to see one as well, and preferably with an updated port of the Gamecube version of MGS1.

What they also need is a Jak & Daxter collection and a R&C collection. Perhaps maybe even a Twisted Metal collection? I know I'd buy it.

I take it you didn't read the article before posting did you?

"The mega-retailer included an April 1, 2011 release date for the game -- hopefully not an indication of an outrageously early April Fools' Day joke -- and a bargain-level price tag of $39.82."

I actually wouldn't have noticed it if not for Joystiq pointing it out to me.

I don't think it's a joke. Isn't 4/1 the start of the 2nd quarter? So maybe they haven't really tied the release date down yet. Just estimating it will release at the end of the 1st quarter.

At least that's how I'm rationalizing it cause I want this compilation so bad.
