Like the Halo series before it, Bungie is working on its own, brand new game engine for use in its forthcoming Activision project. "Just like we don't want to develop a game off someone else's IP, we want to push our own technology in the same way. That's going to be our position for the forseeable future," Bungie's Brian Jarrard told Develop in a recent interview.
Furthermore, that new engine is already being worked on, though it's still in the early stages. "Yeah, [the new engine is] actually in development, so I would say it's in a stage where, technically we're still at the end of a pre-production mode," Jarrard explained. He did admit that, "now that Reach is done the full weight of our team is rolling into the project," adding, "Real work is underway." We're excited to hear more about Bungie's next project, but for now, we've got an inevitable glassing to face.

Hope their next project is as awesome as halo. I wish them the best of luck (not that they really need it) :)

At first I thought you meant the engine was all they were making, which would be the stupidest possible use for bungie.

The engine must be multiplatform this time. For PS3 and X360 (maybe PC too).
Any early game development can be easily parallel to that.

Yes, this is True, and Hopefully your departure from Microsoft does not end up being a Disastrous move for your Company and its Future. While nothing you make will likely ever Equal the Success of Halo, one can only Hope that it is as Awesome as your most Beloved series.

As much as the resurrection of old IPs is being way over done these days, it'd be really cool if they developed a new Marathon game with today's tech.

A marathon remake would be so epic. I was hoping that Halo 3 would segway into a marathon remake, but my dreams were dashed...

Even though I doubt the console companies would allow it, there needs to be a game that allows players who own PS3 to play against 360 owners, and PC players would be welcomed as well. I know we had PC vs 360 in Shadowrun, but 360 vs PS3 would be EPIC!

@Revving Injuns Maybe a game with characters from both Sony and Microsoft, and while we are wishing add Nintendo

Keep this engine separate from the rest of the Activision IPs please.

Year 2012: Bungie releases new game, Super Awesome Wars, published by Activision.
Year 2013: Super Awesome Wars becomes #1 selling game of all time.
Year 2014: Activision breaks deal with Bungie.
Year 2020: Activision releasing Super Awesome Wars 9: Extreme Awesome.

the same reason Guitar Hero, Quantum of Solace and various other Activision games aside from MW and MW2 look like shit. it's great that they're making something new, but I don't wanna see seven new games that run on this engine because the MW2 engine starts to look outdated.

Judging by all the Black Ops fanboys on Joystiq, maybe Bungie is better off asking Treyarch for advice.

A friend of mine is actually looking forward to Black Ops simply because it's a CoD game.
When MW2 came out I said "it's not my kind of game, I probably won't enjoy it" and he said "you should buy it anyways, even if you don't enjoy it."
Now that's it's Reach vs. Black Ops he's going around saying "COD > Halo" and "Black Ops > Reach".

@ZayCube
well so far the only Confirmed ones are Xbox 360, and PS3...
Xbox360 is Obvious, as thats where their "Entire" Fanbase is.
PS3 http://www.bungie.net/Inside/jobs.aspx#27683
My guess is it will be Made for 360, then Ported to PS3... Mainly because Bungie already knows their way around the 360, and Not so much the PS3.

I don't like how they say Reach is "finished." I was kinda hoping for dev involvement post release. I suppose that was really the point of the beta, but still. I can't help compare this to Treyarch's pledge to fight trade ins with intensive involvement in the multiplaYer.

I remember seeing something on G4 about this awhile ago. According to them the next Bungie project is not being designed for this generation of consoles, but for the next.
