I'm sure Noble 6 will be sufficient - but seriously, WTF was Bungie thinking making their last Halo game without Master Chief?

Master Chief was never gonna be in it. Bungie said so from the beginning. He's retired.

OK Seriously? I don't like Halo series, and I'm never going to buy their games. But even I know the story. This game is a prequel to Halo 1 I believe, before Master Chief was sent into action.
It's like trying to put Han Solo in Star Wars episode 1 to make it better but then it wouldn't make any sense!

He probably won't be in it as he spends the entire fight in space. We've seen from trailers that there is some space combat, which looks promising but since SIII's are a secret during reach I doubt you'll even get a radio message.
It's not really a big deal for me either way.

No, this game takes place immediately before Halo 1. Chief is aboard the Pillar of Autumn, on his way to the first Halo ring. It's not "before he was put into action" since he has been a spartan for over twenty years at this point.

No offence, but you don't know the story. He and many other spartans, who were trained on Reach, were in battles defending the planet aboard the Pillar of Autumn. Before Reach fell, they tried to escape by jumping randomly and ended up discovering the first Halo. /geek off
Anyways, I'm hoping they will at least mention him and the others. 11 Hours to go!

Bungie's made a bold step--let the player create their own Spartan. It's a cool concept in theory, but I'm not sure how successful it will be narrative-wise in the campaign. Besides, Noble 6 actually delivers lines, so there's a definite disconnect between recreating yourself as a Spartan but having 0 input into the narrative. In the post-Mass Effect world, it doesn't make sense.
But on the multiplayer-side, it could end up being a step in the right direction.
Anyway, this is Bungie's legitimate attempt at expanding the Halo universe past Master Chief. Considering 343 is going to zoom it right back into MC makes the whole exercise a failure before it even begins in a way, but it's Bungie's call to make.

Oh well excuse me. Like I said I haven't played the last one, I don't intend to play this one, and I never read the books.

Agree 100% with every damn thing you said. I'm fine with trying to 'make your own Spartan' if that's what you want to do - but playing barbie dress up isn't going to make him MY character in this day and age of gaming.
We'll see tomorrow.
@ Everyone else
Yes, I understand it is a prequel to Halo:CE and 'before Master Chief's story begins'. If you were waiting for Master Chief, I just saved you a plate of disappointment when you asked yourself at the end of the game "WTF is Master Chief"??!?!?"

It wasn't actually a random jump, Cortana got the coordinates from a Forerunner artifact that the Chief brought back when he was on a mission, and he had showed it to her, and she scanned the patterns on the rock, and when she was calculating the slipspace jump, she remembered them and figured it was something important, so that is where she took them.
Yes, I just went there lol.

I'm a huge fan of Halo and the Halo Universe, but I can honestly say that the storyline makes no sense at all. First of all, I'm confused about what spartans are the ones that comprise Noble Team. I HIGHLY doubt that they are SIII's since they were made only for suicide missions and were trained/stationed on Onyx, which means that the only other option is that they are the 'second' batch of SII's. Also, the Covenant and the Pillar of Autumn were never on Reach at the same time, which is my biggest qualm with the storyline. All of the original Spartans were aboard the ship and had left Reach to start their mission to capture a Covenant vessel, take it to Covenant space, and capture the Prophets. The only reason the Pillar of Autumn returned to Reach was because the Covenant started to attack, where it stayed and took down a couple of ships including a flagship. There are alot of other inconsistencies that I haven't mentioned, but these are the top two that bother me.
