Super Mario Collection announced for Wii in Japan, website opened
60
After revealing the Super Mario Collection Special Pack on its release calendar, Nintendo of Japan has officially announced the title and opened a website to celebrate the 25th anniversary of everyone's favorite mustachioed plumber. As speculated previously, the pack includes a port of Super Mario All-Stars, a booklet about the history of the Mario series and a CD, which contains Mario music ranging from the original Super Mario Bros. to this summer's Super Mario Galaxy 2. The website also shows off plenty of celebratory swag that Nintendo will be giving away.
Super Mario Collection will be released in Japan on October 21 for ¥2,500 ($30). No announcement has been made regarding a North American version of the collection, though it seems like a no-brainer given how successful recent Mario titles have been. Check out a video of the collection after the break.

So cheap? Oh please come to the US and soon! I will pre-order it as soon as I can, maybe even two copies so I can keep one sealed! I love the box art!

what would be entirely balls to the wall is if they used the GBA iterations with extra content... and by that I ESPECIALLY mean the epic e-reader additions that turned Super Mario Advance 4 into the worlds greatest Mario game ever:

Yeah, I kinda think this should include a few more games... It's a nice gesture, and I realize it's really celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the first game, but it would have been nice to have all the 2D games on a disc (with the exception of NSMB Wii), so add in Super Mario World, Mario Paint, Dr. Mario, etc.
The book and music is a nice touch, though. $30 just seems a touch steep for my taste...especially considering that I already bought all of the All Stars games on Virtual Console.

I am with you. i think we should get everything that was mario on the Nes and the SNES or atleast most of them. we have played 1 2 3 to death. dont get me wrong i want to play some more and what not, but throw in a save feature so i can leave and come back, and give me more games like Dr. Mario. and so forth.

@ilduce620 - Super Mario World was part of the original All-Stars game, so I'm not sure why it wouldn't be a part of this new set. Was it not a part of all-stars in Japan?

@BananaBoat According to Wikipedia, Super Mario World was added to the set in 1993 as the "Super NES Mario Set" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_video_game_remakes#Super_Mario_All-Stars). It wasn't on the original "Super Mario All-Stars" SNES cart, though.

there was an all stars with Super Mario World, and one without it. I'm guessing the one with was a re-release.

why does this need to be on Wii? in all honesty I think itd be much more fitting on the DS. silly Nintendo....

It's too bad they couldn't have done Super Mario All Stars + World. I guess that would've meant one of the games would require a Classic Controller, though (or a GameCube controller, but unless they changed the controls from how they are with the VC version I wouldn't wish that on anyone).

So they used an entire DVD for a port of Super Mario All-Stars? So nearly 4800 MB unused? Seems kinda wasteful. There has to be more to it than that.

Super Mario Bros 2 (Doki Doki Panic) is included on here was "Super Mario USA" - *giggles*
So if this gets ported here, will SMB2 become Lost Levels again, or did they continue to lie to us thinking we're naive and unknowing that it was really SMB2 in Japan?

I never liked or preferred the All Stars look for the NES titles, even when they first came out.

Me too. I mean, I always asked for it but when it happened it just felt like cheating.
Then again, Super Mario World came out and that is pretty much my favorite Mario. So, I'm probably more upset seeing similar graphics in games that are not a true Super Mario World 2

I still think they should've done more with it. four old mario games, a booklet & a CD. I think they should have put those games plus Super Mario 64 & Super Mario Sunshine (both remastered with Wii controls) for 50 bucks. Hell even 60 bucks, I'd buy that.

They should have included SNES titles and a mario themed classic controller.

Like Zertoss said it's too bad they didn't take full advantage of the DVD to put in wayyy many more Mario games in there to truly make into a collection. Like Mario Sunshine.

That's kind of lame for a collection that supposed to be celebrating the 25th anniversary. They're basically selling you a SNES ROM for $30... and not even the good ROM that also has SMW. As most others are saying, they should have included a lot more than this.
Posted: Sep 13th 2010 1:19PM Arikado said
I'm personally baffled why Nintendo isn't updating these games to have NSMB graphics? I already have these remakes in Super Mario All Stars for my SNES. Also, why they're not throwing more games into the collection seems like they're passing up the opportunity to make a lot of money.

I'm disappointed with this package.
You can buy on Virtual Console for cheaper than this, and you can buy tons of mario songs on iTunes or download them from youtube.
This was my wishlist for the collection. Too bad Nintendo didn't listen

Hopefully us Americans would get to have this as well. Even if not this would still be worth it just to import. I can see this having a high resell value 5 years or more down the road. I already have Super Mario All Stars for my SNES so I got no need to open the package but it would be nice to have as a collectors piece.

I definitely want this.
BTW... I wonder if a Legend of Zelda version of this might be forthcoming in the distant future. I seem to recall there was a port of the original Zelda to the Super Famicom, but you had to be participating in some sort of game downloading service that allowed the Super Famicom to use a modem or something to that effect...
Anyone else know anything about it?

@Bones3D Technically we already got something like that in The Legend of Zelda (Collector's Edition) for GameCube (http://www.zeldawiki.org/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Collector%27s_Edition). It has Legend of Zelda, Adventures of Link, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask all on one disk. Sadly, they didn't include LttP@Bones3D Technically we already got something like that in The Legend of Zelda (Collector's Edition) for GameCube (http://www.zeldawiki.org/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Collector%27s_Edition). It a complication of all the LoZ console games out at the time: Legend of Zelda, Adventures of Link, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask. Sadly, they didn't include LttP as it had recently been ported to the GBA, but we did get a demo of Wind Waker (3 different areas/senarios to demo, each 20 minutes long) and a retrospective video of the series (gameplay and cutscenes from all the games in the series). as it had recently been ported to the GBA, but we did get a demo of Wind Waker (3 different areas/senarios to demo, each 20 minutes long) and a retrospective video of the series (gameplay and cutscenes from all the games in the series).

So is there a list of every game in the collection?
Posted: Sep 13th 2010 2:34PM GumbyX said
While I think this is a cool idea. I have to agree with Vidikron. They are just throwing the All-Star ROM on a Wii disk and calling it a day. Yes its cheaper then buying them all separately on VC (without the SNES graphics), but they could have done so much more with it. Why not add developer and creator interviews, old commercials, and the like? Its your flagship franchise for crying out loud! Put some effort into it! Capcom did it with Megaman Collection (sadly not Megaman X Collection) so why can't you?

What a lame bundle, Nintendo should bite the frakking bullet and have done a disk with all classic Mario games on it.
$30 is too much for this less than stellar way to honor jumpman. Audio disks and small booklet are neat, but they have little real value.
Every Mario game released for NES and SNES should be on this disk, THAT would be a real great way to celebrate 25 years of saving that khunt.
Though maybe the N.A. package will be a comprehensive collection. We did get MP: Trilogy where they just got MP NP series.

Eh, $30 isn't a lot. The games are still just as fun as they used to be. Helluva lot funner than some other games released now that get sequels (Two Worlds anyone?). Not so much fanboys as it is people who aren't worried about their gaming cred and just wanna have fun again.
