Dissidia: Duodecim Final Fantasy playable at TGS, first screens released
22
Square Enix has released the first images of Dissidia: Final Fantasy sequel Dissidia: Duodecim this morning, also announcing the game as playable at this year's Tokyo Game Show. Unfortunately for Dissidia fans, nothing firmer than the already revealed "2011" release window was given.
Acclaimed character designer Tetsuya Nomura will once again lend his talents to the Dissidia franchise, which can be seen in the first four pieces of art from the game in our gallery below. The only two characters revealed thus far are FFIV's Kain and FFXIII's Lightning, but we're sure to hear about more as TGS opens this week.

What made the first one great? I'm not trolling I just didn't enjoy it. I also didn't put too much time into it so I'm just curious if it takes a little bit to get going. I fell like I'm missing something.
I saw some hope in it but it just seemed rather flat and benign once you did a few of the same battles. I mean, if you remove the fanfare and fantasy universe, is it a good fighter on its own?

@Mmmmz A lot of it was fanservice, the other was how diffierent and fun it was for a fighter. I guess it appealed to a lot of RPG fans cause it wasn't a combo memorizing fest. But rather a nice strategy/spam fight. Plus the amount of customization and great music made it a must own.
The fighting style probably doesn't appeal to a lot of people, and honestly, if you remove the whole FF part, its just a silly little fighter. But because its FF based, thats what made it more special, I guess.

Personally I thought without the FF it would still be a great fighter with tons of awesome content. Never played a fighting game where you can build your fighter up to your preference (kinda like WoW classes), and then each plays entirely differently. Like Terra is lots of ranged magic spells and aerial manuevers, Onion Knight is all about the crazy fury combos, Cloud is straight on button mashing, Tidus is about combos, Zidane has a great aerial combat build, etc. Each character has a better way to fight someone else. Then you add on the whole strategy aspect of balancing attack types (one builds up your damage count, the other does whatever your damage count is).
Honestly, I was hoping they'd put out another Dissidia for some other universe. Was hoping that's why they prefaced FF with Dissidia, so we'd see a Dissidia: Dragon Quest, or Dissidia: Kingdom Hearts. W/E, just more Dissidia gameplay, achievement tracking, etc.

Well, these screens potentially confirm that previous characters are already there, since Kain is fighting Cecil and whatnot.

You can also see that they're fighting on the moon. I hope this isn't just going to be an expansion for the first game.

@Gibbeynator Its a sequel to a fighting game made a short while after the first one on the same platform.
What do you expect, lol

Gameplay was actually pretty cool. Story was awful though. I agree about it being a fan-service though.

I want to play with Shadow, and Cyan, and Locke, and... heck, just add the entire FF VI cast and I'll buy 10 copies.

I'd rather have had Sazh. At least he was interesting.

I wonder why it's called Dissidia Duodecim(12).

I was just wondering the other day how Lightning would work in EX Mode and now we see. Odin's sword with the Gestalt commands showing up one after the other. Nice.
I can only wonder how they'll improve upon the system they had in place for the first game. I racked up almost 100 hours, but got nowhere, in the grand scheme of things. Still had a blast.
