Does this or any Wii game have online multiplayer that doesn't use friend codes?

Every Wii game ever that has competitive online play has random match making ability (the only way I play online on any console).

Wait... so do you non Wii owners honestly believe the only way to play online against anyone is to first exchange a friend code with any single person you go up against???

EA has their own setup along with Capcom.

Nintendo WFC and Friend Codes have never been forced on a developer. They're just what Nintendo offers. A developer is perfectly free to set up its own servers with whatever kind of identification they please.

I've got a dozen Wii games, none of them have online multiplayer.
I googled it and looked at Wiki and it's quite vague about friend codes.

Most of Activision's more recent games have gotten around friend codes (Modern Warfare Reflex comes to mind), I doubt they'll be used in Goldeneye. EA also did this with their sports games.

Friend codes are only used whenever Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection is used. If developers use their own servers instead, they won't need them.

I HAVE a Wii and thought I'd have to find friend code lists online to populate my Goldeneye multiplayer games when I got it. Admittedly I hardly ever play it though.

My opinion on this game remains the same: a Goldeneye game that isn't actually a remake of the N64 original? Didn't EA already try this in 2004?

Also, "best Wii shooter" is one hell of a qualifying statement.

It'd take a lot to beat all the Metroid Prime games (and now Other M? - haven't played it yet) for that title.

Other M isn't a shooter... And I would call the Prime series a first person adventure, really. The game isn't really about typical first person shooting.

I agree, but the game still has a lot of First Person Shooting involved, at least the Primes do, so while that's not all it is about, it still is quite a large part of Metroid Primes. The FPS parts work well is what I meant.

So what is the in-game 'enigne' anyway that Goldeneye is using?

It's using the same engine that Treyarch used for Modern Warfare Reflex.

GoldenEye was 1 of the first shooters I've ever played and I enjoyed it. I was stoked about it getting redone but when i saw the trailer, it couldn't believe how bad it looked. It kinda let me down. Even though this may never happen, I would love to play this own 360 or PS3 in HD. I think Nintendo owns the rights to the game, but I still can hope.

The only other way I'd want to play this game NOT on Wii is with Move support, as I will be gaming it up (as with all Wii FPSs) with the nunchuk/wiimote set up.

I agree.
An HD rebuild of the original game on the PS3 or 360 would have been
much better, or at least more welcome.

I think I'm the only person here who likes the graphics. I've never cared about ultra-realism, and these graphics kinda increases the nostalgia for me.

It sounds like this guy, Sielman, is trying to justify f*cking up the reputation of one of the best games ever by dragging it's memory through the mud unto (arguably) the wrong system.

Allow me to explain:

"it's about tackling it from today's perspective and not the '90s"

Well, Goldeneye was a 90's movie and a 90s game. And both were very much liked as they were. If they weren't good enough, then why didn't you build a new game from the ground up, based in present time? Just come out and say you couldn't have remade it for xyz reasons and at least I'd respect you for the truth.

By the way;

"we need to have a commitment to authenticity"
contradicts
"it's about tackling it from today's perspective and not the '90s"

It's either authentic or not.

"Split-screen multiplayer is a feature that has disappeared from modern shooters. Nowadays, multiplayer is me, sitting in the dark, with a headset on, talking trash to someone 600 miles away"

Back in the 90s, you had no choice but to play consoles multiplayer - split screen. But things have moved on from that. Back then I lived within 4 mins walk of everyone I wanted to play with. But things have moved on. We've moved on, had families, started working etc. But luckily for us some bright spark invented xbox live. And now I can play with those people again and many more people all over the place; at a time that's convenient for us, without the need for long distance travel. p.s. stop trash talking.
Everyone here knows I love Ninty, but really, their approach to online gaming is so lame you can't even laugh; it's worse than a tradegy. You can not justify bringing it to the wii by saying you wanted people to play split screen. That's really all they can do, unless they want a gimped, silent, random experience.

The graphics are not what a game like this deserve. The online multiplayer experience is not what this game deserves. You should have paid whomever you had to pay (MS, Rare, Brosnan, whoever) proper money, made something that looks like it belongs in this generation of consoles and given players something truely excellent.

I really do hope that this game is epic. But from what I've seen so far it's looking to be an epic facepalm.

The Wii is from this generation of consoles. The gameplay should matter more than the graphics, and the Wii's online setup isn't that bad. It just relies on the publisher to handle it correctly, which seldom happens.

I wonder if it will have the "authentic" awful slowdown and graphic quality reduction that came with split-screen multiplayer for the original.

Seriously... The only thing I believe about this game is their admission that its preying on nostalgia. There's no other reason for it to exist, especially in this crazy modern/retro retelling of one of the lamer Bond stories.

Back to the split screen, though. It doesn't exist anymore, largely, for the reason it was so chunky in the N64, Dreamcast and original Xbox days: lowered performance. The Wii is certainly best equipped to deal with that, though.

My grief is that Goldeneye holds so many fond memories for me that I didn't want it f'ed up by a half-assed, kinda-re-make.

I'm sick of all these haters. YOu got perfect dark in HD STFU Already !!

Stop being such a idiotic fanboy, this stupidity is a illness that we must cure. I love Nintendo, and I would buy a 360 but never had money to spend on another console. Plenty of great games on all systems and it doesn't need HD to be a 'good game' . GROW UP and act your age.

I don't buy the "it's exclusive because we think it fits the Wii best" explanation. Activision never does exclusives if it can be avoided. It's most likely because Nintendo still owns the rights to the concept of a new Goldeneye game (EA got away with Rogue Agent because it technically wasn't the same thing), and they would have objected to a multiplatform release.

That said, I do like that Eurocom and Activision are actually putting effort into this game. What I've seen seems to be well-polished, and even Activision's trying to market the game, even if that means resorting to their regular hamfisted practices (Pre-order bonuses should not impact the gameplay, that's just unfair to gamers as a whole).

ok well this isn't going to be 100% classic goldeneye but as long as it brings back the memories and has alot of the same features. who knows maybe all the stuff rare left out has another chance to be in the game like ALL BONDS MODE! really i'm sick of the same classic villians with no classic bonds to go with them. Maybe citadel or what ever that level was called would make the cut too. Honestly I'd like to see more remakes of the older movies like Goldfinger, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonranker(i know alot of people dont like the movie but it would make a fun game), The Living Daylights but with the real bond actors. I'm actually glad Craig is in this one. I just hope Bond 23 and 24 come out and are on that Casino Royale level but with Q and Moneypenny.
