Hopefully my attempt at learning guitar with Rock Band will go better than when I tried with an acoustic guitar.

One-String, how I love thee...

Now, on the Fender guitar, how are the frets registered on the game?
Like, are the frets touch sensitive or are they actual buttons you press down along with the string?
Also, how forgiving is the game on playing extra strings accidentally?

And the bass still goes unloved. Where's the pro-bass controller?

@Rocketboy

I don't know if the game works like this, but you would be able to play all the bass parts on the pro guitar anyway. Of course it would be in a higher octave, technically. And of course the feeling is completely different. I play the bass guitar so I'm not trying to knock it or belittle it, but I bet the devs just don't feel like it is worth the investment to create a specialty controller when the pro guitar can get the job done.

@Rocketboy You can play pro-bass parts with this guitar and HMX said if there is enough people asking for a pro-bass controller, they would make one, or maybe a third party can make it.

To learn how to play bass in the band is to have a van that can haul the equipment.

I'm with you. I definitely only have a desire to play bass with this game. Then I would have some fun!

You want to buy all the variations of basses so you have a controller thats compatible with all the songs? Or would you rather buy one 6 string controller thats compatible with all the bass songs and guitar songs?

This is starting to regain my interest in the Rock Band/Guitar Hero games. I played the first couple of Guitar Hero games back in the day but never enjoyed it as much as the real thing. Someone let me know when it advances to the point where I can plug in my real instruments that I already own to play. I don't want to buy their "pro" controllers if I already own the real instruments.

I don't see how they would make less money by charging $200 for a 1/4" adapter, like a wireless pack. Hell, they could charge $400 and it'd still sell... Bass, guitar, microphone, v-drums, whatever... Then again, I assume it'd be pretty easy to cheat and just jack in playback of the song you're playing on the game for high-score's sake.

I doubt this will be a real learning game. Guitar Hero/Rock Band has 5 notes. Guitars can do a lot more than 5 notes.

@Themoreyouknow did you not read the article?

The whole point of the pro guitar is that you get 6 strings and the whole fret board not just 5 notes so on expert pro-made you are playing the real notes to the song.

@Poor Tom : Agreed. When I can plug in my real Les Paul, I'll be more inclined to play this game. Wonder how bad it would be to DIY...

@snakegriffin You might be able to pull it off if you bought a squire and took the neck/guts out and put them in another fender or strat body, but at that point, what's the point? Just use the squire for the game and your real guitars for playing otherwise. Trying to transplant the neck and guts into a non-strat would likely be a disaster.

@oolz : Not interested in putting the guts of the controller onto a real body, I was thinking of something a little more technical than that; i.e. translating the signal from real pickup(s) into the game protocol.

I heard somewhere that any MIDI guitar will work, which only a small portion of the population probably has, haven't verified it tho.

@Poor Tom

I don't think any MIDI guitar will work because the neck itself has stuff to see where your fingers are even when not playing.

Has Harmonix or Fender announced a price for the Full Fender Pro Guitar? I'm hoping it is somewhere around $300 or less.

I would love to be able to use my own guitar on this. I have a 1975 Fender Stratocaster. I just don't see the need to buy a fender squire. That would be like blasphemy to do. The squire is a fine guitar to start with and I know it would be way to expensive to go with a real strat but I am not buying a squire no sir no thank you.

@shoan The reason why you can't use your own guitar is because there is a lot of tech they put in the neck of the guitar in order for all of this to work.

I do agree though it would have been nice to just put an adapter on any guitar and have it work would have been awesome.

@oolz does not bother me to not play pro mode in the game. Seems like they could have made an adapter that would have decoded the actual notes coming out of the amp jack and used a simple process to first tune your guitar to the game to get a base line reference for open string notes, Then use the box to match the correct note played to the note in the chart. Granted you could play alternate fret positions on the guitar to get the same correct note. And by playing the alternate note for any given note would not make you any less correct in the playing of the music. If a program can auto tune a voice they can program a simple box to be an alternative to this squire for people that have guitars already. It can be done very simply using midi outputs for keyboards so it would not be hard to do with a real guitar. Just use a controller for navigation like when you use the microphone. I just think it would be a great option to sell more stuff.

@shoan but no... they couldn't... which is why there is a dedicated guitar being sold for it. It has sensors in the neck to detect where your fingers are, as well as the pickups to detect your picking hand. There's more at work here than just tone detection. They're trying to teach you how to play full chords, correctly, and that requires being able to know where your fingers are. It would be nice, but it's just not possible for what they're doing with the game.

That's a pretty high price considering the cost of a normal squier. Don't know if the tech in the neck is worth $150.
