Anchor Bay Films has acquired the distribution rights to Tekken (the movie), a live-action adaptation of Namco Bandai's fighting game franchise. Produced by Crystal Sky Pictures, the film is expected to be released "widely" in the United States next year, reports ComingSoon.net. (The movie premiered in Japan this past March, courtesy of Warner Bros.)
"The Tekken video game franchise has sold millions of copies over the past decade," said Anchor Bay president Bill Clark. "Crystal Sky has invested millions in the production, making sure they were able to convey not only the incredible fight scenes, but also the emotional journey of the main character, Jin" (as seen above). The movie has grossed just over a half million dollars to date, according to Box Office Mojo.

Jin was cool once, he started out calm and detached in the previous games then built up to be the biggest ass in Tekken 6.
The biggest ass.
The biggest ass.

I agree. I could be wrong but he doesn't look Asian, which shouldn't be too alarming seeing as how Hollywood and movies in general have a disgusting tendency at "whitewashing" main protagonists of videogame films as being "other than their original ethnicity." The Prince in the new Prince of Persia movie; Goku from Dragon Ball Evolution; that Smallville chick in the Chun Li movie; the list goes on.

No. Because that might be fun to watch. And this movie has a strict non-fun policy.

WHY!?!?!?!?
I've seen the movie, while I loved the costumes and most of the characters they got for the roles, it has nothing else going for it. At all.
Worth enduring just for the awesome costumes, though... or like... fast-forwarding through.

I've seen it about a week ago and I must say I was pleasantly surprised, it's not a masterpiece by any means and the story was pretty much garbage, but for a videogame movie it's pretty decent and I really liked how they've handled the tournament aspect of things (different arenas or why Yoshimitsu gets to fight with swords, for example). The fighting itself was pretty good.
Overall I enjoyed the movie, I'm not saying you should rush to the theaters but give it a try when it gets to Netflix/iTunes/whatever your preferred rental service is...

what do you mean it's coming? i saw this last week. it's an okay action movie but not a good video game adaptation movie... come to think of it i don't think there has been a good video game movie. i swear i just sat here for at least two minutes trying to think of one lol.

Silent Hill is good.
And if you aren't stuck up, the first Street Fighter live-action film (Raul Julia made one of the most awesome M.Bisons ever) and the Super Mario bros. movies were damn good if you stop knit-picking about why Bowser rules the kingdom or what not.
Dead or Alive was okay too I guess... there wasn't much of a story there in the first place, and besides turning a few characters into guys, still made Ryu look a little like a badass at least.

@DevilSei lol, street fighter and mario were two of the worst films ever made and constantly appear on lists of the 50 worst movies! I don't think it's about being stuck up, it's about childhood memories. I think most of us loved the street fighter and mario moives when we were younger because we were so excited to see a game on tv but nostalgia aside, they are two of the worst movies ever made and have very little to do with the games. Remember Ryu's Hadouken; he did it from point blank and it was like a tiny spark!

Silent Hill was AWFUL. Everything looked nice but it had the most mind-numbingly boring script of all time. I did like Dead Or Alive though because, well, who gives a shit about a script when Holly Valance is fighting in a bikini in the rain? Tekken is a lot like that. The characters are all pretty close to the game (apart from Marshall Law who is some muay thai guy now and not Bruce Lee) and the story, for what it is, is well handled. The fights are cool and the kid playing Jin is really good. Worth watching for fans, definitely.

When you can make a decent argument, come talk to me.
Plot wise, there wasn't much you could work out of either flick. And I ended up watching the Super Mario Bros well beyond when it was released, so it wasn't through some nostalgia-fogged glasses. You want to watch a fat, sweaty Italian in a red suit running through castles and talking to a bunch of mushrooms and stomping midgets all movie long? Go ahead. Personally I enjoyed the dystopian take on the mushroom kingdom, and there was more than enough subtle references throughout the movie.
As for street fighter, its the same deal. The plot was basic, but Raul Julias acting made it bearable, and if you want to see the closest thing to a real-life Bison, nothing beats his rendition. The movie never took itself seriously anyways, so why be serious when watching it?
@Attackosaur
Yeah, I only say Silent Hill is great because of the attention paid to the atmosphere, the story may suck dino-balls, but the effects and music (helped they got permission to use the games soundtrack) were great, and I felt it was true to theme in that regard. I'll give them credit though, Silent Hills story is batshit insane, lots of psuedos and psychological aspects plaything through it, it wouldn't really work well in a 2-3hr bit of film.

Wow. Over half a million bucks at the box office? What will that cover - MAYBE the publicity, catering, and transportation budgets? This stinky piece of head cheese sucked worse than a nearsighted hooker with braces. I can't even figure out where to begin on this crapfest.
For now, avoid this like a hemophiliac with a nosebleed. and the hantavirus.

And when did Jin turn into a middle aged white guy?
And what is the deal with that 'prison shower' scene they're using for the promotional image. Thats....thats just disturbing...
