Devil May Cry reboot, in trailer and screenshot form
328
Announced just moments ago at Capcom's pre-TGS press conference, here's just about everything we know about Ninja Theory's "reboot" of Devil May Cry: a trailer. Found after the break, this trailer (and the accompanying screens and artwork) share a new look for Dante, and a new direction for the franchise. Let's make this scientific, though. What do you think of the Devil May Cry reboot?

is it just me or is this post displaying improperly? either way, i can only see the screens and no trailer. screens look good, just not sure how i feel about Dante without white hair. It's his trademark. Hell, it's good for signifying someone is a badass (see: Sephiroth).

Personally, I'm tired of badasses with white hair/spikey hair/ distinctive hair.

@zefur Not necessarily so. I just dont like it when it seems as if the protagonist is Trying so hard to look different. Doesnt necessarily mean i like this hairstyle more (it still looks like he's either trying to hard or on his way to a concert)

I don't want to sound mean, but you guys should take a second look at the video because his hair is turning white. It's beginning to turn white from the center-top of his hair.

Heavenly Sword is a special game for me, because it was the first PS3 game (and thus game of this generation) that I really enjoyed.
However, it's fighting is somewhat ... shallow. And repetitive. And too easy. And too short.
I do believe Ninja Theory are capable of making good games. I'm just not convinced they're capable of making a good *Devil May Cry* game.

@Hyams tottally agree with you. if this was a new game alltogether and some really fun gameplay was shown then yay keep it coming. but changing a series main character never and i mean never works. and TV has proved this fact with joey/scrubs and spin city. i didn't like it when they change crash bandicoot into differen peoples.
not looking forward to this at all. i hope the rest of TGS has better stuff, and i hope this wasn't the capcom surprise cause i it is its a wasted one

@Hyams yeah devil may cry 3 was awesome. and 1 was really good. i liked 4. 2 eehh not so much but i still went and beat it severeal times to get the the unlockables. and then once more with the unlockables. DMC to me as a good series that i just randomly found. but to remake it with a completely different character it just not cool man

@Co
I disagree. You can't get many points if you use the same attacks over and over, most of the enemies are quite different from each other, and the highest difficulty levels are very tough but not in a cheap way (usually). I've only played 1 and 3, but I enjoyed both immensely.

I've completed Heavenly Sword 4 times. There are lots of combos to learn, yeah, but there's no point in using any of them.
They all do almost the same exact thing, and it's more effective to simply spam the Triangle button anyway.
Heavenly Sword is a lot better on hard mode, because then you actually have to time your attacks and use some tactics. But on normal mode (which is what I imagine 95% of people played the game, as Hard mode isn't available until you've completed the game once), there is no skill required at all.

@Hyams It could be a success. I mean, just for the sake of comparison, Team Ninja worked on Metroid: Other M, and it turned out to be a relatively nice success. Sure, they're not the same, but they are similar in that both DMC and Metroid were/are developed by....developers that people might not be comfortable with at first. I'll definitely give it a chance.

I think you are mixing up developpers
Team Ninja made Metroid other M and the ninja gaiden series
This is Ninja Theory who made Heavenly Sword, a game I really enjoyed. But this...this is just wrong. Why reboot a franchise that had a really established fanbase who loved it?

Day1 Perch!
The hair color isn't really my problem, so much as everything else about him. Dante always looked like a fruity Japanese pop star, but that somehow gelled with the over the top wackiness of the games.
Making him look like an American pop star is just... nauseating.

Why change Dante for DMC. He looks like some emo loser. If they are going to reboot it then at least don't make him look like a depressed fool.
Not the best of times recently, but really bad times now for DMC :(

I don't mind the black/silver hair hybrid, but the Black/Red Nero Jacket has to go

@Ashkental This is a Ninja Theory game. Fitting Nolan North and Andy Serkis in the same mocap studio would cause divide by zero errors and implode the universe.

That's not Dante.
So I guess I am relatively unconcerned that he is some troubled emo-goth kid who smokes. With Baditude!
I'm sure some people will buy this, but I will not. But unlike Infamous2, I don't even really care enough about this franchise anymore to raise a stink about Capcom destroying the memory of one of it's most iconic characters.

From a narrative and character standpoint, DMC has always been a complete embarrassment. I don't see how this 80's new romantic look is any worse.
Why now are you calling the game out for being goth? It's Devil May Cry. It's always been gothic! While we're on the subject, when I was in high-school, emo was Rivers Coumo or The Get Up Kids. When did everyone start associating it with goth?

@MLS Devil May Cry has always been in a gothic setting, I will agree. However Dante was always a smart ass/arrogant badass. NOT some depressed teenager going through an adolescent crisis and being a total rebel by smoking.

It appears you're imagining characteristics of this iteration of Dante with no confirmation that they exist. I watched the trailer, and sensed no depression. In fact I saw a couple smirks littered within what was basically a lot of ass kicking. I didn't spot him trying to impress his enemies with his cigarette. He pretty much seemed intent on spearing them or throwing trucks at them. The only crisis I noticed was him being chained up for a split second, which I believe transcends the plight of adolescence a bit.
