Devil May Cry reboot, in trailer and screenshot form
328
Announced just moments ago at Capcom's pre-TGS press conference, here's just about everything we know about Ninja Theory's "reboot" of Devil May Cry: a trailer. Found after the break, this trailer (and the accompanying screens and artwork) share a new look for Dante, and a new direction for the franchise. Let's make this scientific, though. What do you think of the Devil May Cry reboot?

lol. I don't think this is a reboot. But if they insist on saying that, then so be it. haha. It's pretty obvious from the teaser that we'll be playing a teenage Dante. The intro kinda reminds me of Batman also the ending on top of the statue of gargoyle or something... xD
But... but... but... I want to play an 8 yr. old Dante or 8 9 somewhere along those line - SouthPark style. haha. j/k.

@isotrex You played as young Dante in DMC3, though. It's pretty obvious they're trying to go all "GRITTY-REAL" with this game and have Dante really just be insane or possessed or something really DEEP AND DARK like that

Actually we have no idea how young Dante was in DMC3. All we could assume was he was young by his voice and looks. But.. what age in human years, is actually young in demon years and vice versa? We don't know.
I think he looks more realistic to the 1970's and stuff. ANd with the architexture in all the DMC games, it kinda fits that his roots would look like that. Personally in DMC3, Dante looked to be in his maybe mid twenties, to late twenties. Maybe even thirty.
In this game he actually looks like a teen. People keep saying he's emo, but I think he likes like that hobo punk in school. The one you dont sit by, who just stares at you until you leave him lone. But here he's actually showing emotions other then arrogance. Not saying I didn't like that about him.
He just seems awesome to me. We don't know much about his past. And the way he is... It just seems right to me.

Eh, I'm pretty okay with it. The original game is the only one that I'd call fantastic, back when Dante was a badass but not to the ridiculous cartoonist heights of DMC 3. The 4th game couldn't hold my interest, so I'm willing to give this a chance. If this is a reboot than it's understandable to change the main character.

That looks fantastic!!! I'm sold on it already. I love the DMC games, like most people I thought 1 and 3 were the best. DMC4 was such a disappointment, they clearly ran out of ideas (so much so that they only made half a game and made us repeat it twice). When you look at how great Bayonetta is it's pretty obvious that they needed to do something to rejuvenate interest in Dante. I'm delighted they have Ninja Theory making this, Heavenly Sword was fantastic but just too short so I'm praying this isn't going to be a really short game. As for his hair, he's a kid! I imagine the game will explain how Dante's hair went white! Then there's the smoking, smoking looks cool, it might not BE cool but it certainly LOOKS cool (if you don't believe me then just watch Reservoir Dogs or Film Noir). Looks like Dante has got his attitude back and a pair of balls too.

@Dooid if it is another prequel that'd be annoying but I'd prefer it to a reboot. It would explain why his guns have a slower fire rate, maybe ebony and ivory are still "under production". According to novels/manga Dante had gone a while trying to re-coop from the death of his mother and brother, so it'd make sense that he's so pissy and in a psychiatric ward. But, the pendant on his chest looks to different, he should still have rebellion on him too, and his attitude isn't anything like the real Dante.

As someone who has never played a DMC game and isn't a fan at all (but is at least familiar with the series) this actually looks interesting. That trailer has made me want to know what is going on, and I don't mind the character design. I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I've never really cared about DMC before this trailer.

reminds me of prototype........i'd rather believe half-demons can do what dante does instead of some kid being trapped in his own Matrix.

Apparently, it's up to ninja theory to westernize the DMC franchise so capcom can get all those sales they want/needed. I think it'll end up with ANOTHER open world game where the main character is some parkour god...I wouldn't mind the open world so much because the newer installments just keep getting bigger and bigger. DMC3 was in a city and there were no sounds of other life. I really hate what they did with the weapons (the one weapon that morphs always seemed stupid). Honestly, I'm glad they did something because after DMC2 the other games were prequels, they were just so embarrassed by it that they didn't even want to look back at the "sinister Dante". I'm not gonna not play this game but I will ALWAYS be upset that they completely re-did my favorite video game franchise

@giuseppe24 "no sounds of other life life" meant to type (no other life in sight)

As someone who (admittedly), has never gotten into the DMC series, and looking at this as a totally new franchise TO ME, it definitely looks interesting.
It also looks like someone took a Paul Pope graphic novel and realistically rendered it, which isn't a bad thing in my book.
I like Ninja Theory on graphics and storytelling, for sure. Let's hope they can match up and improve on gameplay.

silver hair or not doesn't matter too much to me, but this guy just looks absolutely terrible.... well at least the gameplay should be good (unless they destroyed that too), thats what matters most right..

Its sounds outstanding, but why need to reboot! I'm sure some people will buy this, but I will not. But unlike Infamous2, I don't even really care enough about this franchise any more to raise a stink about Capcom destroying the memory of one of it's most iconic characters.

First of all if you change the character of a series so severely you're gonna get a similar reaction as there was of the first trailer of Infamous 2. Replacing the demon enemies with robots, using what sounds like David Hayter as the voice actor for the other Dante? (Could be wrong.) They should change the games name to Devil May Get High for this iteration if its released like this.

How does the "new" Dante even compare to the previous?
I mean look..
http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/devilmaycry/images/6/63/Dante_4.png
What they did need to reboot the SERIES.. not the character.
Old Dante is just fine..the new one (as many have commented) looks very emo, goth, twilight fanboy-ish. Not a fan.
Bring back the "real" Dante!

I'm rather upset that Dante looks like a flaming homo. The gameplay might be fun though. Please God let them change the character design...

i don't think gameplay's gonna matter much if someone walks in on you playing as skippy..i mean "the new Dante." There would be a moment of awkward silence before they backed out the door in emberassment.

Personally, I don't think his look is that off-putting. Maybe its just 'cause I grew up in the punk era, but I don't see this whole "emo" thing everyone is talking about. The guy's twisting his cigarettes out in demons faces and tossing them about like ragdolls, not listening to MCR and crying while he cuts his wrists because nobody understands his feelings.
And maybe I've missed something over the years, but what is all this bull people are spouting about them "westernizing" DMC? As I remember, the series was never, in any way, intended to appeal to a Japanese audience. It was designed to distinctly appeal to westerners, and to the Japanese audience interested in western (more specifically American) action culture. It's not like Dante was designed to be a katana wielding samurai knock-off (at least until Vergil came about). Instead he fought with a WESTERN sword, dual wielded guns in a distinctly WESTERN gangster style. Hell, they even consulted the American motion capture/voice artists of the 4th in order to come up with decidedly WESTERN motions, taunts, etc. To believe that this inception of Dante is somehow any more of an attempt to appeal to western audiences that his precursor is simply asinine.
DMC is built on more than just the superfluous character. Don't think I'm saying I hate the old Dante, 'cause I certainly do love the guy. But shouldn't the gameplay and the story hold more weight that the aesthetics? If the new developers can deliver the same over-the-top visceral action that the series is noted before, and sell a convincing and enjoyable plot, shouldn't those make up for his hair being a different color. Plus, it's probably just demon puberty and he'll end being the Dante we know by the end anyway.

Thank GOD, someone finally gets it!! Your the best.
Story and gameplay SHOULD hold more over the characters looks. Half the people on here won't play the game because 'he doesnt look like Dante'. They won't stop crying about it.

Wow, dudes chill out. The game hasn't even come out yet, no reason to judge. We have NO idea how life was before DMC3, so we have no room to talk about how this 'isn't Dante'. It very well could be. Just because it isn't how YOU pictured him, is no reason to be mad.
EVeryone has their own way of thinking how D was before all of it. Personally, this was how I pictured him. I didn't however think about his hair or anything. But I always believed he HAD to have faced something really bad to him to actually be as happy as he is all the time, i the games that WE know.
I'm an avid DMC player, meaning I play the games every month. Sometimes every two weeks, when college lets me get away with it. All this talk about how this 'ISNT DANTE' is old news. Grow up, please. Stuff doesn't always fall the way you want it. I don't mean to sound mean or disrespectful but damn. It's childish. Same argument EVERYWHERE.
If you don't like it, then leave it alone and let the rest of the fans who will actually give it a chance, talk about it.
Let's see, what does it have in common with the regular DMC series? Oh I dunno. A trench-coat-wearing, gun-toting, athletic, single-slayer guy. The only differences is, black hair and he's smaller. He looks malnourished which could be the cause of him being chained up in that white tiled place. Did you see how dirty it was? Do you think he's gonna have muscles? If you do.. Your an idiot.. I'm sorry.
Sure they are taking his PAST in a different direction. It's his PAST. If they do one thats more like the older Dante, they won't change much. Duh.
I've read every comment on here, and you know what? Mostly complaining about his hair. "I REFUSE to accept him as Dante!! Look at his HAIR!! :(" Wow... Seriously? You're giving up, a maybe good game, because his hair... Is not wholey white?... Wow.
As you can probably tell, I really like how they did it. I can see Dante in him, in the future. He looks like he's out for murder. And to me, the Dante we now, anyone I believe. WHo can be as aloof as our Dante is as we know him, has HAD to have had a bad past. A BAD one. It's only when we survive through the worst, can we accept the smallest of good things.
