Now those of you who already own Steel Battalion controllers ... well, you're probably out of luck. Maybe a job for Ben Heck?
Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor goes button-free on Kinect

Well, this is ... unexpected. The "Steel Battalion" franchise, perhaps best remembered for its 1,980-button controller, is coming to a platform that requires none. Microsoft has just announced that From Software will bring Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor to the 360 via Kinect. Well, technically, Microsoft just said the game will have "Kinect Enablement," so we guess there's still a chance you'll be able to play with a standard controller, we can't say for sure.

This is about the last thing I would expect to come out for Kinect. M.Night must be trolling gaming history with a time machine.

So this is capcom's 4th title?
While not bad by any means, I was expecting something much bigger for them to not announce at their conference.
Guess Dmc is their big game of show

Oh no, there are buttons and levers involved! They're all invisible now, though.

Very cool. Will be interesting to see what the controls are like, but I'm not doubting it. Kinect can handle quite a bit.

Or maybe it's played with controller, with Kinect for pushing on screen buttons for secondary functions that can't fit onto controller. This way it looks natural, Kinect game isn't required to be all button-free you know

It'd be really cool if the gamepad was the primary controller, while Kinect supplied secondary buttons that you could SEE inside the cockpit of the game. So, you'd drive the mech with the controller, but you could start your engine, activate windshield wipers (as in the previous game), turn on IR Vision, and so forth by moving your hands to where those buttons exist within the cockpit of the game. It wouldn't have to be precise, either. Wave your hand to the left to do one thing, wave it to the right to do another.
In mecha anime, pilots are always jumping into their mechs and punching buttons that are around their cockpit. It's just Mecha tradition. Since it's too expensive to sell a cockpit system to players, Kinect could do the next best thing.
HMmm... ya know, I haven't been excited by Kinect, but thinking of this... I'm really interested to see what FROM Software does. Those guys often do some pretty unique stuff (Demon's Souls/Chromehounds).

I was about to type basically exactly what ybfelix said. Anyway, I've always wanted to play this.

I wish I could be as optimistic about this game as everyone else...
When I read "world without computers," WW2 was not what leapt to mind. I mean, if you're going for a pre-computer era, the 40s is cutting it awful close.
I don't see the cohesion between mechs, WW2 and Kinect.

Guys, there's something wrong with your new video player. It's incredibly stuttery, there's this vertical rectangle of space in the dead center where the video seems to refresh significantly less quickly than the rest of the player, and you can't use the scroll wheel on the Age Gate prompt at the beginning. It really makes it a chore to consume your content. Please look into it.

Looks pretty cool but didn't we develop technologies to prevent the mass casualties attributed to storming beachhead bunkers? Just bomb the shit out of the bunkers before hand.

if it's anything like Chromehounds, they'll give some reason for why air power isn't as powerful as we think it would be.

I think the Steel Battalion series is just Capcom's attempts to harvest energy out of double takes/spit-takes. Everything about it seems to defy sense, yet hee we are, a 3rd game.
At least now I can try it myself.

@Robborboy I was not knocking on the game's quality. Let me explain.
Steel Battalion is an Xbox game that required a purchase of a huge, 200 dollar controller, had complex controllers and a feature where losing all you saved progress was possible.
There are no tits in it. No ruff space marines or over the top gushes of blood or anything.
And it was a big seller. In Japan, especially. I remind you, an Xbox game.
This is an anomaly of unlikelyness. Highly marketted and focus group infused games fail all the time in the industry. Lot's of great games, such as Shenmue, or Psychonauts, never recieve enought sales to support a franchise.
By all intents and purposes, Steel Battalion trounces any expectative of what SHOULD happen to games such as it. I f I could dissect such a success I would.

Ah ok so now a steel battalion with a 150 no button controller.
I suppose in some ones eyes that can be some form of progress.

I wish Capcom had supported their SB controller by making it compatible with the dozens of mecha games that have come out since SB did..
It would also work nicely with various flight sims, too.

Wow amazing demo - got to see how cool it was with the Kinect and all - yep nothing like non-interactive cinematic and zero game-play to make your mouth water.

As long as there's still window washing we should be fine.

Played this game for a long period of time especially line of contact, for those who have never touched the game or who never became involved, this is probably some power-washed garbage they found on the streets and refitted. The thing that made battalion was the controller and having a difficult learning curve. This game has a lot to live up too from its former title Line of Contact. We'll see later down the road if this game is worth coming to play. As for now, trailer looked like shit.

Do want! Haters hate... Anyone complaining that this game's announcement destroys the original game's spirit are the spawn of those who complained that the microwave would destroy the memory of the oven. You can have both... Can't we all just get along and kill one another in glorious Mech action?
