Japan's Self Defense Force is being overrun by hordes of the undead. Kamurocho (Yakuza's fictional district) is in shambles. Sure, most gangsters would run for their lives, but not returning Yakuza characters Kazuma, Goro, Ryuji and Shun. That's right -- Sega's next entry in the series is actually a shooter and features a zombie outbreak ravaging Japan, according to the latest issue of Famitsu (via Siliconera).
The publisher hasn't confirmed whether the game will be released in North America; nor has Sega verified if Yakuza: Of the End is a spinoff or a main entry in the franchise (i.e., "Yakuza 5"). Regardless, producer Toshihiro Nagoshi did tell Famitsu that he doesn't believe this will be the last entry in the Yakuza series.

Wow this is very unexpected. Isnt there any other more believable storyline alternative rather than ending all this Yakuza story buildup with zombie invasion??

Damn it, Japan. When we said your video game industry was stale, you didn't have to try to copy our stale video game industry.

If I was a fan of the series, I'd be royally pissed off. I can't see how anything you regularly do in a Yakuza game can carry over into a devastated economy and infrastructure. Wasn't this series, just a few months ago, being praised by actual Yakuza gang members as a rather competent simulation?
Now as someone who finds the standard Yakuza game routine structure boring, and loves to explore ruined environments in both real and virtual worlds... I think I'm kinda down for this.

I can't agree with you more. Zombies in video games is getting more than a little played out these past few years.Time to move on to a new fad. Bring on the dinosaurs!

*when you run out of ideas add zombies*
That's what you call a twist!

It's got to be a side story.. like the samurai period one. I read somewhere that the designer once said that the Yakuza franchise could go anywhere--even to outer space; guess he wasn't joking
If it is Yakuza 5 then someone's got some splaining to do

my first response is.. "what the hell" as well.. but it looks like im the only one excited for this.. and im not even a Yakuza(series) fan.. i hate the game.. well ive only played the demo. but in retrospect.. im a HUGE ZOMBIE FAN.. i have over 100 zombie films.. but i barely have any new zombie games. hate FPS so i never got into the whole COD waw zombie stuff. and any other recent zombie games. but i am getting dead rising 2 for sure. loved Prototype and its zombies.
i'm all for this, even if its completely off course for the yakuza story, which i know nothing about.. its so weird.. i love it already. come on guys.. WEIRD IS GOOD!

ow i'm excited. this just kinda feels like someone at the sega jp office was trying to figure out a new story for the yakuza series and took some acid or something.
