Unsurprisingly, EA Sports president Peter Moore agrees that sales of Tiger Woods 2011 were "disappointing, in particular on the Wii, " but believes there's hope for the title yet. Moore told Eurogamer that the game will be "well represented as part of the Move launch," and that the upcoming Ryder Cup during the first week of October (and seen in the franchise for the first time this year) will bring it back into the spotlight to tack on some extra numbers. As for whether the golfer's well-publicized personal problems may have affected the video game franchise, Moore says that's a "consumer call," and reiterates EA's support of the star.
Moore also talked a bit about the much-reviled Online Pass system, saying that 60 to 70 percent of players have accessed the Online Pass content so far, without going into detail about how many used codes or paid outright. Finally, he believes that we're currently in a mid-cycle market in terms of console sales. Prices are still too high -- especially when you include the Kinect and Move hardware -- he says, to reach the video game console sweet spot of "$199 or below." Until we get there, Moore is convinced, "We're nowhere near mass-market pricing."

the real reason it failed is because we all know who makes the game purchases... MOM. and mom isn't going to be buying a game with a philanderer on the cover for their 7 year old kid. And we ALL know that the largest share for Tiger Woods games is pre-teen kids, because kids are notorious golf whores. my 8 year old nephew is always watching the The Barclays or the Ryder Cup when I just want to watch some nickelodeon. little bastard.

It's because Tiger Woods is a disappointing person.
Next year..
Phil Mickelson 2012
THAT will get your sales back.

Yea, so let's have Phil on the game, until he eventually gets caught up in some bad publicity, then let's jump to the next golfer and so on and so on and so on...
Fans are really, really fickle people...

I'd say it's because of his personal problems. Or because he has yet to win an event this year.

I don't know about you, but I am specifically boycotting the games with this Online Pass system.
Not because I buy used games often, not because I care about online even if I did buy second hand, but because we need to draw the line... and show them (at least for me) this "project ten dollar" garbage will mean zero dollars for them out of my pocket.
I've been a long time EA Sports fan since the mid-90's, but enough is enough. Let this one slide, and EVERY game will be single use, even if you are the original owner, but happen to be on a different machine.
Let them try to blame it on Tiger Woods this time, but I couldn't give a crap about his "transgressions", it's a sports game, not an endorsement of the person on the cover, I am not buying this because of the whole Online Pass business.

Tiger Woods 10 on Wii is an excellent game, especially with MotionPlus. I just don't think Tiger Woods 11 brought enough to the table for the new game. Unfortunately for EA, Wii owners like me are pretty content with a single product without new iterations coming out every year...

@ilduce620 I think you hit the nail on the head--Wii owners won't buy countless annual iterations of games they already own unless it is Mario, and I'll bet most Mario customers haven't bought a Mario game since the NES or the SNES, having skipped the N64 and Cube, meaning Mario Wii is the first Mario they bought in decades.
The perception is still that games are for geeks, kids, football fans, or hardcore. The Wii's cross over appeal only hits "kids" from that list, and the simplified controls support the parents playing with their kids and not being overwhelmed with buttons. And then the whole Wii Fit thing which pushes the Wii from a game device to an exercise device that actually fits in your living room, as opposed to the dusty free weights in your basement, or the stationary bike buried in your shed.

Move is not going to sell anymore units. I doubt it will sell 500k more units. Nobody is going to drop the high price for the move controller and then buy that high priced golf game that's been out for awhile. Golf is dead

Why would the unwashed masses buy a Tiger game if Tiger is no longer impressive game-wise, and potentially offensive to their sensibilities?
Jordan could still sell a B-ball game, and if Tiger wants to keep that status he'll need to get out of this rut -- and keep his personal life well out of the public eye as well.

I don't really care about what Tiger did or didn't do. The thing is, this is the same freakin' game every year, that's why I stopped buying. Maybe I'll buy again when they add some current-gen graphics.

THANK you. I thought I was the only one who's been extremely disappointed by the graphic capabilities of these games...
I mean, I know it's just a golf course a few people.. but they could make it look so much more realistic. It's like they don't know how to do lighting and textures quite right.

Golf as a sport is heading for a decline anyways. Madden and NHL sell so well because those sports demand a sim like experience.. golf doesn't have player stats. Golf is just golf. Golf is a game not a sport.
I have Hot Shots Golf on PS3 and PSP so I have no need for such a boring game from EA.

Tiger Woods '09 and '10 on the Wii were both great games, but there's no reason to upgrade. If you're one of the seven people with MotionPlus, they can buy '10. If not, they can just pickup '09 for cheap. Golf doesn't need an annual game, just like tennis and bowling don't need annual releases.

I guess that's what happens when you put your wood into the hole before your ball multiple times.
Wait... what? You mean Tiger Woods actually did that off the course as well?

It's been said a few times already. It's the same game. For the last 4 years, it's almost identical. The graphics are stale and outdated, less courses without DLC. Yes, I'm sure Tiger's personal problems had some impact on sales, but people are tired of buying the same game over and over, especially when there are so many other good titles available. It wouldn't matter who was on the cover, the series is broken and is in desperate need of a reboot.

He's got a point about console prices being too high. 5 years after launch, the PS1 was $100, the PS2 $130, but the Xbox 360... $300.
Taking 15 years of inflation into account, the PS1 new would be $412 today, similar to the PS3 launch. But its 5 year price, with 10 years of inflation, would be $125. A far cry from what the 5 year old Xbox 360 costs.
Problem is Sony and MS both lost too much money, from Cell to RROD, to slash prices now when they're just becoming profitable. So we're stuck with expensive, out of date consoles for a few more years.

Disappointing sales? What the hell did they think would happen? They jack the price (in Canada) up $10 (as they did with all their other sports franchises). And they've been jackin' up the prices of DLC courses over the past 2-3 years. Bottom line, they got greedy and now the game isn't selling well. Easy fix - next year, release it at a good price, with EVERY course made available so far on the 360 (not hard, since they often re-use levels for DLC). Then, release the fun fantasy courses as DLC (new ones please) at a cheap 400 points per course.
In addition, stop f*ckin' with the game mechanics. It's golf, not rocket science - the gameplay was damn near perfect last year, this years "update" was unnessicary (except the bit about limiting power shots to a meter gauge you use up over uses).
