@Ashkental I'm interested in knowing what are the benefits of cross game chat that some people seem to obsess about.
I like to be immersed in my games and if a game does not have multiplayer I don't really see the the point of mic chat. Takes away from the game. I don't need to hear stuff while I'm fighting a boss like "hey did you try out that new doritos flavor?" for team based games like MAG I can understand mics are needed. But cross game?
Maybe I'm a little too antisocial but I've spoken to a few people about it and it's no major selling point. I'm not against it unless but see no real demand for it. MW2 boosters do though.

The benefit for me is this:
-I'm planning to spend an evening playing games with a bunch of friends or even one other friend.
-We all go on our Xbox 360s, set up a chat party, decide while on our home pages what we want to play, agree to get into some Horde mode in Gears of War, play it for a bit, debate what to do next and switch to some Battlefield, then all decide to download a new XBLA game, go to download it, load it and play it together, etc. etc.
-Imagine how annoying this would be on the PS3!

@Ashkental Here's an idea: Group Chat with Skype, including all of the friends you'd like to play with. Now you can chat across games AND systems. "Hey, let's play L4D." "Hey, let's play madden."
It's easy, it's effective, it's FREE, and it's been available for a long time. Don't have a computer in the same room as your PS/Xbox/Wii? That's just an issue of priorities ;)

I'd actually be willing to pay $30 for cross game chat.

It's on several programs. Mumble, Skype, Teamspeak, Ventrillo, Xfire, Instant Messengers, Steam. That's 7 programs right there.

Hey while we're at it, why not count a cellphone as well? I mean, you probably already have one anyways, and tons of them have this neat feature that lets you chat with more than 1 person at a time so you've got team play. You can also use a headset with a cellphone so it's hands free!
He/she wants a system for the PS3, not a PC. If he had wanted an obvious solution for a PC he would have asked.

I hope this isn't a mandatory update, since it only adds a feature that very few people are going to use.
Nothing against 3D, it's just that most people don't own a 3D tv, so forcing this update would be ridiculous.

I don't think 3D will catch on with the mainstream until the glasses are eliminated from the equation.
I use to not like 3D until I played the motorstorm demo at a Sony store and instantly fell in love with the technology. I hope it is inexpensive enough for developers to incorporate 3D into their games for the small amount of people with 3D setups.

Doesn't matter, there's only 2 3D movies available to the public (crappy Dreamworks 3D animation). The rest are bundled exclusives with expensive TVs/blu-ray players.

Can we get a PS3 update that contains functionality that the majority of people will actually use? And no, I am not talking about adding color to the PSN profile card, I'm talking about stuff like an improved web browser, new visualizations on the music player, or better sync between PS1 classics on PSP/PS3. You know, *real* stuff.

It's probably not going to be mandatory anyways, so just refrain from updating if you don't need it.
If you haven't noticed it yet, Sony's pushing 3D like crazy. This is just a piece of their goal to get everyone to buy a Sony 3D TV and a PS3 to play their 3D games/movies on - which means it's been high on their priority list ever since they decided that 3D is the future (way of making money)

Sweet.
3D games like Motorstorm are Wicked Cool.
I can't wait to try out the Free Movies that came with my Bravia.
I didn't think I would like the 3d as much as I do.
I bought my 55" Bravia cause it was a good TV.
Was a skeptic and am now a believer.

@Kruegmeister Yeah dude I did the same thing. I had no TV and I knew the Samsung LEDs were solid. I am happy with it and even if 3D doesn't pan out, the TV does great 2D as well

It also says on the official play station blog website "While support for Blu-ray 3D discs is the primary new feature within the 3.50 update, there will be a few additional features. We’ll post more details on the blog prior to the firmware’s release, so check back here on Monday" so wonder what else we will be getting

3D Movie support is ok for those with 3D tvs. Here is a list of things i'd find MUCH MUCH MUCH more useful.
1. Ability to use the Remote Control in webpages instead of having to revert back to a controller.
2. Ability to use the Keypad in the xmb for searching for music or movies.
3. Ability to go by letter (or at least to see what letter you are up to) when scrolling through thousands of music tracks.
4. Ability to rip DVD's (that you own) to the hard drive (i have a 500 GB drive)
5. A Check in- Check out option for downloaded games - so you can play them on a friends PS3.
6. Some way of flicking between user profiles - without having to exit the game you are playing log out, login then restart the game.
7. More music visualizers- or at least open it up to 3rd party developers.
8. General inter game voice chat - dont know if i'd use it but it sounds good.
9. Mandate all devs have to put up preview movies/screenshots as part of the submission requirements for PSN.
10. ???????dont know but just like having 10 things.,
