Mega Man Universe is based on Mega Man 2

Mega Man Universe, we surmised from the very beginning, is an amalgamation of familiar elements in a new presentation. According to producer Akiko Ito, it'll contain even more familiar elements than we've seen: the levels and bosses of Mega Man 2.

Ito told Joystiq during an interview, "The base story and the base game is taken from Mega Man 2, so players can experience Mega Man 2 through this game." She explained that these "default" stages don't have to remain in their original form, as well: "Basically, we're going to create the stages from Mega Man 2 faithfully in this new style, and you can play them as is, or you can customize different sections of them, or you can customize all of it if you want to, so pretty much you can do whatever you'd like with the stages."

We're calling it right now: the most popular player-created stage will be "Quick Man, but without those laser things."

I agree, this was one of my favorite games growing up, I still have my NES cartridge of MM2, and I have it on my phone.

C'mon Capcom, just give us back the charged Mega Buster and the Slide and I'll be happy!

Both of those were not in the classic Mega Mans.

It's like when Mega Man 9 came out, and was supposed to be retro, and people who never played one in the life were like "Where's the Mega Buster?"

I'd call Mega Man 3 fairly classic and it had the slide. MM4 not so classic but it is an 18year old NES game so I'd be hard pressed to argue against the retro label.

I had forgotten the slide was in Mega Man 3.

I hope there's more to the game than just a rereleased Mega Man 2 with customization...

There wasn't really any exciting XBLA games in the first half of 2010, and now there is about to be like a bazillion, that's about a million-million or something.

I prefer the Mega Man look from earlier games. He looks strange,
in the above picture.

I'm finding it harder to stay interested in this game (it already burned me when I originally thought it was something associated with Legends), when from all that I've read, everyone whose had some hands-on time with the game feel like its just not all that good, not really bad, just underwhelming or something...

Well, if we can't use Robot Masters besides ones from the overrated Mega Man 2, I think I'll pass. Inafune needs to move the hell on. He's like Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite; he wont stop living in the past.

They should have put all classic Mega Man games in there, and release it in disc form.

(Of course, as a Wii owner, that would benefit me, but I really think it would be better.)

You can buy the Mega Man Anniversary collection for GC. It's got 1-8 and the arcade fighting game. I picked it up at the checkout at Khol's for like eight bucks 5 years ago, and revisit it almost every year.

Mega Man 2, eh... So, I can recreate Act I of Protomen with this thing?

Why wouldn't they show the power of these tools and create some truly spectacular levels instead of levels most megaman fans have played hundreds of times?

I was excited about this game at first, but now, I´m not sure. C´mon, it looks a lot like Mega Man Powered Up. By the way, if the game does not look like it is in "new style". The enemies, the 1-up icon and the HUD has the original sprites. And I´m thinking they will throw Ryu and Arthur the way they did with the robot masters in Powered up. But I really hope they don´t.

i hope the soundtrack is big, chiptunes and rock remixes.

So Megaman 9 is based on Megaman 2, Megaman 10 is based on Megaman 2, and Megaman Universe is based on Megaman 2?

Why don't they just rerelease Megaman 2 already? Oh wait...

Seriously Capcom...I love Megaman, but I want to see something fresh. And for starters I want my slide and power shot back. How can Megaman be downgraded?

Kind of weird, but totally okay since Mega Man 2 is arguably the best of the original 8-bit games. Fine by this guy!

Ahhh Quick Man Stage. I remembered that memorizing the passcode to skip that boss was quite popular. Especially the fact that his boomerang weapon was very useful.

Best weapon in the game is from Metal Man.

Capcom better bring this to the Wii or they can go fk them selves forever !

Oh yeah, the comment about Quick Man's stage is so true (as that's usually the last level I'd play in Mega Man 2 due to the evil that is the "flame section".

I still would've prefered Megaman Powered up 2. Or even better, Maverick Hunter X 2

Inafune likes Mega Man 2 too much--the only thing holding back the otherwise-awesome MM9 was that the game was super-enamored with MM2 as well.

I'm always going to hold the opinion that MM3 is the superior game anyway, but I digress: MMU should be a glorious mix of all things Mega (classic series), not yet another game styled around MM2.
