Rumor: Odin Sphere and Muramasa HD remakes coming to XBLA, PSN

According to "sources in Japan" speaking with 1UP, two of Vanillaware's already gorgeous 2D titles, Muramasa: The Demon Blade (pictured) and Odin Sphere, are being remade in HD. The report also posits that the re-releases will likely arrive on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.

Additionally, both games are now listed by Australia's OFLC as "multiplatform," though each has only been released on a single console to date (Odin Sphere on PS2 and Muramasa on Wii). The evidence may be mounting, but we're still filing these HD ports in the rumor department for now.

Best news this week easily...would say for the year....but that Castlevania trailer was so awesome it hurt.

I'm starting to like this HD remake business a lot more than 3D.

PLEASE SWEET LORD JESUS let this be true.... I've been praying for Muramasa to come to PSN. But a Blu-ray with both for $39.99 would be awesome sauce!

@Piggy89 - I really hope it leads to what the other industry's have, like how we can go into a store and buy a new copy of pulp fiction, or a beatles album.

Soon, I'd like to go into a store and have a choice from every game ever made.

I don't think you will every be able to walk into a store and have this choice. I think that it is more likely that the day will come where you'll be able to download any game ever made. Legally, I mean.

This is one of those games that I never got around to playing on my Wii. That would be awesome if I could download this gorgeousness for 15 bucks.

@Uncle Jesse Same here... I have a Wii, the games looked good but I was waiting for a super-cheap price, but bump that up to 360/PS3 level quality/clarity, it's hard not to pull the trigger and buy.

This is one of those games I questioned why the company hates money and made it a Wii exclusive? Seriously, these games should have been on XBLA and PSN in the first place.

Odin Sphere was a great side-scroller, I'll definitely be picking these up on XBLA.

Thing with Muramasa is that its a fully fleshed out, decently long game. That would be a crazy deal if they just threw it on xbox live.

Well you know how hardcoar gamers are. It's 2D, so it can't be worth more than $10, or a disk release for that matter.

I can't imagine this being anything other than Marvelous porting the games like they did with No More Heroes. I highly doubt that Vanillaware has any input in these as, IIRC, they already said they weren't going to be doing anything extra with Muramasa because they were a small team and wanted to work on their next project.

I already own Odin Sphere, but I'd buy both of them to see them in HD. I mean, the games look gorgeous in SD already. I'd also like to play Odin Sphere without having to worry about the insane slow downs I'd get fairly frequently on the PS2.

I'll jump on Muramasa on PSN in a second, given the chance.

I would prefer them to have both on one blu-ray disc.

I tried to beat Odin Sphere several different times, but kept losing on bosses where the incredible slowdown would destroy me. They HAVE to fix that or this rerelease would be worthless.

Seconded. I don't remember exactly where I stopped playing, but I know once I hit a certain point it just got too frustrating to continue. Just WALKING in the one level made everything chug. I found myself wondering if it had even been playtested. I would absolutely love to see OS redone in HD, with a proper framerate.

@(Unverified) Funny, while there is significant slowdown when fighting the Underworld Queen in Act I, that is the worst of it, the rest of the game performed relatively OK (I finished it 100%)

Yes please, in for both. I know Muramasa was published by Ignition and Odin Sphere was published by Atlus and bother are Vanillaware and therefore not part of the same family but this announcement made me wish for Atlus Megaten releases on PSN an/or XBLA and I got happy. Hope is a somewhat horrible thing sometimes. :(

I'm hoping the PS3's uber power can help erase all those lagging issues from the bosses in Odin Sphere.

Oh Hell yes! Please please please please please be real! I missed both of them - Odin Sphere because I traded in my PS2 by the time it came out, and Muramasa because of my propensity to despise the Wii sitting on my TV stand - and I would sincerely love to play them both in HD!

That's awesome, I never ended up playing Odin Sphere but I always wanted to.

I loved both of those games. I just hope the PSN versions come with trophies and at a cheap price.

That would be awesome. If so, they have my money. I wonder if they will start taking pre-orders for xbla games and give bonus content, like premium themes. That would be awesome.

And I know it's a different developer, but please re-release God Hand Capcom. I've bought at least 10 of your games this generation.
