Agreed. They didn't explain anything, which is sorta typical.

But the answer is very simple:
They're there to eat your brains. :D

Didn't see this coming. Hopefully it's non-canon. The Yakuza games have such a great story around them, and zombies pretty much ruins it.

The more I hear about this one the less I like. Looks like I won't be playing past Yakuza 4. :|

@Faceless Troll heh interesting.. its the complete opposite for me. afterall.. this article is basically stating this game is not for the established fans of Yakuza (but you are welcome to try it). and they succeeded. i had no interest in getting any of the games but im drawn to zombies.. third person perspective.. and well.. guns. sign me up!!

@The BZA The realism and unique combat system was one of the biggest draw of the series to me. This just turns it into yet another zombie game with guns. :(

Realism? Really? THe Yakuza series is anything but realistic, unless you live in a fantasy land where giant Gold castles come up from nowhere where you fight giant tigers and samurais hand to hand.

Basically they are saying Americans are stupid zombies who will buy any stupid shooter as long as it has zombies.

Sadly this will probably be the best selling Yakuza game in America.

basically you're incredibly wrong. Want me to pull up the sales numbers for Bikini Samurai Squad or Road to Fiddler's Green?

@Cleric *sigh* I was saying that is how they view the American market, not that I think it's a good idea. I doubt they looked at those two games as market research before throwing money at this project.

If this is a side-story...then this is worth a look and I think its a creative turn.

If it is an official tie-in to the actual storyline...then the series is officially dead.

@ShadowXIII

One thing that should be pointed out is that until Yakuza 3 was announced, everyone called the fedual Japan Yakuza, Yakuza 3. So they probably won't officially say it is a spin off until Yakuza 5 is announced and shown to have no zombie fallout.

Are you people BLIND!!???? Where the hell do you see the "5" in this game, this is NOT YAKUZA 5!! This is YAKUZA OF THE END, do you have trouble reading?

As explained by the producer this is a similar project as Yakuza Kenzan that was the third game released under the Ryuga gotoku label and where do you see it labeled as Yakuza 3?? No right.

So give it a break with the OMG Yakuza is ruined!

I love the Yakuza series and will play this SPIN OFF!!! Just as I played Ryuga Gotoku (Yakuza) Kenzan, took the liberty of going all the way to Japan to get me the game!

I just lol'd when Kazuma started toting a sniper rifle. It was just so out of character. I expected him busting heads of zombies with Dragon Heat or whatever.

So what about Yakuza Kenzan? That sounds and looks like something I'd definitely play. They should've just released that instead.

@Guts

Agreed. Kenzan was a great tie in, it was basically the same game steeped in feudal Japan. This game is just bastardizing the name, and it's certainly a good thing I pay close attention to these things, if I didn't and I saw this game on the shelf, I would have purchased it and would have been seriously disappointed.

Smart idea. (Although I hope there'll also be a bit of fisticuffs in this, and not all shooting)

I'm happy that it's a spin off and we'll still get a regular Yakuza down the line. May even have a larger fanbase by then.

I'd also like to request that the next spin-off either involve Yakuza vs Dinosaurs or Yakuza as Space Marines.

Judging from what I've seen of the game so far it seems to be a very Yakuza game... with story intact and everything. Quit whining until you see what it's really all about. if you love the series so much why woudldn't you want a well done fun spin-off? I don't think anyone is really expecting this to be the new norm for the series. Just like Kenzan.

And what is with all the zombie hate? You people are boring.

The Yakuza spin-offs I'm most looking forward to:
-Super Yakuza Kart
-Yakuza Party 2 (the first one will suck)
-Yakuza & Mafia at the Olympic Games
-Paper Yakuza
