Capcom has released its annual report for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2010, and there's a wealth of information for those willing to plumb its 102-page depths. Net sales for Capcom's fiscal 2009 were ¥66.8 billion ($779 million), down from ¥91.8 billion ($1.07 billion) in 2008. The company saw net income of ¥2.16 billion ($25 million), its lowest since 2004 (when it saw a loss of over ¥9 billion). This marks a very sharp contrast to the previous year, when Capcom recorded net income of ¥8 billion ($93 million), its highest earnings since 2000.
Capcom cited the postponement of many major titles until the following fiscal year as the cause for the decline. Given those titles included the likes of Super Street Fighter 4, we'd say that's probably accurate.
Capcom isn't losing heart though, and goes on to detail its new strategy of "Single Content Multiple Usage." The company plans to leverage its video game segment (which accounts for 65.9 percent of its business) to promote products in other forms of media. As illustrated in the image above, Capcom has already done this with the Resident Evil franchise, creating books, movies and music that revolve around the brand. Capcom hopes this will reduce risk and attract "customers obtained from other business segments" to the video games these products are based on.
So, does watching Milla Jovovich kill movie zombies compel you to shoot the virtual ones?

Maybe if they released everything for the 3 main platforms (pc, xbox, ps3) at the SAME TIME, maybe people wouldn´t lose interest..... and how about some other different concepts instead of more SF and RE??

WTF was the reason for a DMC redo? Was that series really screaming "REIMAGE"?
It's not even 10 years old. Hell...MEGA MAN is still MEGA MAN. He doesn't have twenty guns from his chest or tank treads. He's still the blue robot wonder.

The reboot could boost sales if it was released and the REAL DMC WASN'T ABANDONED. Them just throwing one of their flagships under a bus like this is just mind bogglingly stupid on all fronts.

I'm sorry to say but I haven't bought anything Capcom this gen so far and it's because they haven't anything worth buying yet. I plan on checking out Dead Rising 2 but I'm still kinda weary about the game. The only game that Capcom has my interest in is MvC3.
Although it looks great, if it releases around the same time as Mortal Kombat then... Uh-Oh! Guess who'll be skipping MvC3 for MK???

Considering RE:5 is Capcoms third best selling game ever, I would say the problem lies in other areas, like Dark Void, Bionic Commando, and Lost Planet.

What are you talking about, they already completely changed the genre of the game from adventure type survival horror game with puzzles to linear action shooter. What more do you want?
I wish they went back to the old style RE for a change. Fat chance though since every single game series must turn into a simplistic linear shooter this gen, as if by some godly law of the industry.

honestly capcom it feels as if you scour the streets for the dumbest individuals for your marketing team... give me a job, honestly i'll make you tons of money.. You wanna know how to bring RE back to royalty? listen, take this from a fan who has bought and beaten every re game...
First off, they should've given RE:Outbreak another go since online gaming for consoles was so bad when the first and second came out (especially for the PS2) that it never got a fair chance. The concept for Outbreak was awesome, and PS3 owners are starved for zombie lovin' since they missed out on L4D... Dead Rising 2 doesn't count either, it's awesome, but it's just not the same.
Second, with the movies... The 3D one that just released opened up at #1 (Barely, but the top spot is the top spot) so it's obvious that there's still interest. Pull a Batman Begins and redo the series the RIGHT way, make it really dark and take out the superwoman protagonist, and don't throw in horrible game characters from the series for fan appeal.
And for their main series, take a break from Leon / Claire and Chris / Jill and finish the story of Billy / Rebecah, any real RE fan would agree that Zero is one of the cooler installations to RE and *SPOILER ALERT* since Rebecah doesn't die in the "real" ending to RE1 I would really like to know wtf happened to her... ORRRR you could remake Nemesis with modern technology, whenever I play that game I think to myself how horrifyingly scary that game could've been with today's graphics and effects...
You're welcome any random Capcom dev. that reads this

not to mention .. 1) them putting the Monster Hunter MMO exclusively on the Xbox 360 which is the LAST system that should get it... oh yea, and the MH MMO has been out for a while in korea for computer, but we don't get it....for some reason
2) their failure to bring back absolutely classic franchises such as Power Stone, Rival Schools, Onimusha, breath of fire
3) the lukewarm responses from Tekken x Streetfighter and the other one...
4) people realizing that lost planet 1 wasnt that good so 2 rightfully was almost as mediocre
5)one of their only truly impressive game (mega man universe) only being some little mini dlc game that wont make them a crazy amount of money.
6) lack of presence on the wii, which is the breadwinner console
7) late additions of games to the PC crowd... still waiting for SSF4 = / , thank god at least DR2 is comin out at the same time
the list goes on..

I'm going to come right out and say it: Lost Planet 2 and Monster Hunter Tri are underrated masterpieces, no matter what anyone says. Most people just shun these games because they're too different and difficult for them compared to most of today's games. Challenge and Originality are what make Capcom games so great, and yet they doom the poor company at the same time. :(

ill respect any opinion, because I like some different games that aren't huge successes... but "masterpiece" dude? that is a stretch beyond any stretch i've ever heard... Super Metroid is a masterpiece, Ocarina of Time is a Masterpiece, Halo 1 is a masterpiece, MGS 4 is a dang masterpiece...
Monster Hunter Tri is a watered down portable game on a system... and I own it, played it for 2 weeks and only died like 5 times which is considered really low for MH standards...
And LP2, all flash with little flare...
be careful what you call a "masterpiece", those are what you know, mozart wrote and van goh painted

@Yezzir1128 I guess MH3 was more of a stretch since it's just a part of a large series, but I stand by Lost Planet 2. Super Metroid is my favorite shooter game ever, and in my opinion the greatest. And LP2 has been my favorite shooter since Super Metroid.
And even though it's just my opinion that it is a "masterpiece", I still think LP2's reception in the west is sad. It may not be a masterpiece, but I believe it at least deserves more respect here than it has gotten.

yeah, i can see what you're saying... LP2 had TONS of potential, and even though altogether the ball was dropped, it still trudged through as a good game... but still masterpiece by no means... a masterpiece is something that rocks the foundation of gaming as we know it and sets the bar for the genre it's in.... LP2 didn't do that, not even on it's best day

Capcom is digging their own grave at this point, they've made so many bad moves this gen I don't know where to begin with them.
I'd buy more Capcom games if they finally got their act together which doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon. I mean DR 2 exclusive DLC? Seriously how many more PS3 owners do you want to piss off?

I think if they actually got on board withing the movie franchise and set a rules dow that any fututre movies should be based more along the games.
Then they may acutally se more of a profit. they movies are fine but the may actors form the games only seem to get side parts to the story.
Aso make them real horror moives a little action is good as wel but these were creepy games and the movies are deffintaly not on the same level.
Listen to your fans and stop blaming them for your losses and sales figures afterall you develope most of the material.
workmen never blame they're tools.

when i say a work men never blames his tools , it simply means his tools ie his creation.
did you ask for res evil movie with alice ? did any fans ?
did we ask for non scarry movies ? did we ask for the main charahcters of the games to get side parts to alice ?
so what i'm saying if they get some controll over these movies, then they would make profit and more consumers buying into the games.
hoe many times have oyu watched a movie and decied damn i wanna play that game now.
Also make a decent street fighter movie and there would maybe have been more sales of that game also.
Not wanting to argue with anyone so dont take it that i am.
