Sort of OT, but since this was at TGS, was there any confirmation of being able to play with a standard controller?

Sounds pointless if it's just one colour and not a whole texture. I'm sure they'll be some impressive stuff that comes out on Kinect but so far all I've seen is stuff that's already been done.

Even PlaySation Move's Beat Sketchers uses that feature of taking color from real world objects.

You people act like every feature these companies put in a game or a device is meant to be touted as being "revolutionary". It's just a neat way for people to get a specific color in a game and one that's far more interactive than a stupid color wheel.

But hey, this is the Internet.

You're supposed to complain about things.

More interaction does not always equate to better. Sometimes systems don't evolve because there is no real beneficial reason for them to evolve.

This seems like a neat addition, sure, but it limits color-choosing to the objects around you. Even if you did have a nice selection of colors around you, you'd likely have to adjust the lighting in your room for the camera to properly read the color (and not make it too dark/gray).

A color wheel (in addition to this) would only simplify things and make choosing the exact color easier. Now, if the game allowed for scanning in textures, it'd be noteworthy. Imagine all the leopard/cow/zebra cars you'd see.

Hey, it's like those paint scanners at hardware stores that have existed for decades.

Neat!

Wow... this is just so underwhelming from what they initially told people what it could do. I mean, from scanning in a skateboard (and being able to scan through hands to get the parts that are covered) to scanning one colour is a pretty big let down.

I hope Kudo Tsunoda is being paid well because trying to sell the public on this "oh so cool" killer feature that it being touted as a Kinect seller, must be killing him on the inside.

I know Sony and Nintendo doesn't always live up to their own hype (their E3 conference where there was a bunch of Sony pre-rendered movies shown comes to mind) but I think that Microsoft is just as guilty in terms of their misrepresentation of what things can and can't do.

The initial Natal/Kinect ad has to be for me, the biggest lie I've ever seen from a company since Sea Monkeys and X-ray glasses.

@ToTheMoon Actually I think Microsoft has done a pretty good job of delivering on the initial concept video. The only thing that comes to mind that they don't have at launch is the 4-player trivia game and the realworld object scanning. But I'm willing to bet we'll see games with those features within the first year of Kinect.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2qlHoxPioM

Controller-free Fighting game = Fighters uncaged
Voice recognition = Kinectimals/Milo
Controller-free Racing game = Joy Ride/Forza
In-game character control = Sonic/Adrenalin Misfits/Kinect Adventures
2-player soccer game = Kinect Sports/MotionSports
Controller-free Skateboarding = Sonic Free Riders (uses exact same motions)
Auto-login with face recognition = Working in dashboard
Video chat = VideoKinect
Controller free media playback = Zune, ESPN (Netflix & Last.FM at launch)

Use your own gear = Nothing so far (Joy Ride sort of)
4-player trivia game = Nothing so far

For a concept video produced more than 18-months prior to the products release that's a pretty good track record.

I agree, ppl need to chill out. this is just the beggining of kinect. more cool features will be added as technology improves and demands increases.

People don't realize that with Move you would have far to many controllers not to mention changing batteries so often or recharging them, too much shit around your couch lol. with Kinect just the sensor camera and thats it. no recharging or changing batteries , no looking around for the controller etc etc. Kinect will be my new gift.

@cool8man I am sure they have and I saw a herd of pigs flying this morning it was a sight to behold, much like a boy breathing fire from his mouth or a girl trying on different virtual clothes while video chatting or a boy holding his skateboard up and getting it scanned in..

Change batteries? On an PS3 controller? Someone doesn't own a PS3....it takes nothing to charge a controller that has standard USB ports on it...use the same cord that your camera may use...or your phone....and guess what? They dont charge u an extra $30 for some stupid charge kit....

Oh how I love buttons...

someone can't finish reading the end of sentence before commenting...

i agree with you though, i don't think it's that hard to recharge a controller, but he was making a point and you missed it... me personally, i use eneloops so i don't have to deal with batteries or chargers that only work on one device. that's just my preference.

It does have a color selection, this is more if you want an obscure color. "If you're dissatisfied with the selection of bold colors in the game, Kinect can take a peek at any item positioned in front of the camera and transfer its color onto your car."

I'm sure the Kinect camrea can 'technically' scan an item and place it in a game-- the xbox 360 camera already had the capability AND there were a couple of games that used the feature... Rainbow Six Vegas and Pro Evolution Soccer. I think the reason why we don't see more of the feature is because of the fear that someone is going to scan something adult into the system.
