Left 4 Dead 2's next mutation suffers a Healthpackalypse
19
The one thing saving Left 4 Dead 2 from being the world's most comprehensive zombie apocalypse survival sim is its liberal use of pain meds and "health packs." In the real world, these things don't have the immediate recuperative effects they do in the video games. If you want a taste of how it'll truly be, you should probably check out this week's mutation: Healthpackalypse.
In this custom Versus play mode on both the PC and Xbox 360, the survivors get no health packs whatsoever. If you're on the Infected side, laugh maniacally as the humans try to make it through without the use of first aid. If you're on the survivor side, well -- better luck next time! It's called "the apocalypse" for a reason, muchachos.

All the mutations since mid-August are old mutations that Valve is re-running as part of their "we ran out of new mutations" (aka Developer's Choice) thing.

They still have at least one left, which is Versus Co-op. Ya know, versus against 4 AI survivors; one of the only few I really looked forwards to. Plus the one with no special infected but a shitton of common that are stronger. You can find a list of them on google

I wish they had health packs in real life.
Then maybe my dad would still be alive.

@Mortegro If they didnt have pain pills I would have moved on with my life...Now I swallow the misery of losing my family away pill after pill. That and sleep. Lots of sleeping...at least then they are still with me.

This mode pretty much guarantees a close game with two skilled teams. Playing it last night with some people I regularly play with was a blast. Added bonus - much shorter games.

Well I was gonna say I sure wish they would hurry up and put this on Mac. I was also going to say that isn't this really just like realism mode? Stupid 360 doesn't get nifty pc fun.

Valve sure does like making things difficult for survivors... The instances of infected being handicapped slightly are rare, if not nonexistent!

Next week's mutation: Paper-cuts.
Infected can only slash for 1 damage at a time.
Is that what you really want here? Would that even be fun?

@Mister Kay Running around with constantly depleting health is basically what half the mutations for the survivors are. Great if you're infected, but if you lack incredible skills as a survivor or merely have an uncommunicative team it makes surviving a living hell. I'd just like to see a bit of equality, that's all.

@Faren22 If you play L4D2 regularly, you'll find that the biggest problem is the time commitment to VS. That's why Valve makes things harder for the survivors, so you aren't spending two hours in a single VS match. Ideally, neither team should make it to the safe room.

Does this game really need to be any more difficult? :|

@ouenwoof
Yes, it really does. When two competitive-caliber teams play, the game pretty much just hinges on a lucky molotov thrown at a tank or something. We actually need the health bonus back from L4D1 to make the scores more convincing.
