Project Dark trailer is dark, Demon's Souls-esque
43
There's still a lot of unanswered questions about Project Dark, the next title from the Demon's Souls team at From Software, but chief amongst them is the simple query: Is this a Demon's Souls sequel? While we still don't have a clear answer on that front, the below cam-captured teaser provides some evidence that it's at least cut from the same, blood-stained cloth.
Project Dark is a PS3-exclusive in Japan, while Namco Bandai's English website lists an Xbox 360 version as well.

@Apsac D From software has the experience so we'll undoubtedly get a good PS3 version. I just hope they don't make the game easier to appeal to more gamers. :-/

Although there's nothing stating that this game will be as brutal as Demon's Souls, I think From Software won't be able to get away from the "Brutal Game" now.
If they make something that doesn't punish you over and over and over... and over, then we'll all be a bit disappointed.
I guess it'll turn out how it turns out, but I hope the difficulty is still there.
I loved Demon's Souls and want many more experiences like that in the near and distant future.

sorry to be the one to break this to you guys, but there are a lot of excellent games out there that didn't rely on such punishing difficulty.
it worked perfectly for demon's souls, but i think it'd be a shame if people automatically think less of the new game just because it might be easier.

I hope they make it a little bit easier. At least the NG+ mode. They also need to balance it a little better as to not make one class type a lot easier than others. That game was incredibly hard for melee classes and NG+ mode was pretty much impossible without some sort of magic.

punishing you for doing something stupid is not the same thing as difficulty. Demon's Souls understood that -- if you saw a huge group of powerful monsters and didn't run away, you got punished for it. If you thought fighting in a cramped tunnel was a good idea, you got punished for it.
If you played intelligently, it wasn't particularly difficult. If you played it like any other game, you'd get wrecked for taking too many chances, since it wasn't forgiving.
DS is this gen's best game, by far.

Didn't they say it was PS3 only when they first announced it?

Since we're pretty sure that Sony isn't allowing a Demon's Souls game on the Xbox 360, and that this IS a Demon's Souls game, anyone want to guess what Sony did to piss off From Software?

@Kougeru - Watch the trailer closely...it's definitely the same engine, play style, boss style, and...well...everything. It's a Demon's Souls game other than in name no matter how you look at it.

@Mach2 a lot of things. mostly the hardware will probably force this game to be degraded since XBOX is technically weaker

I just hope they build it for ps3 FIRST so they don't have to work around xbox's limitations.

WOW. Time to change my underwear. This might be my first import. I'm not sure I can hold out knowing people somewhere are playing it and I'm not. Does Rosetta Stone teach you to read other languages too???

That small gameplay looked a hell of alot like Demon's Souls to me. My only biggest concern is that Japan Studios is not apart of this. People fail to understand that From Software on their own makes some very mediocre games. But I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt and believe they have picked up more than enough experience with DS to get this new "dark project" right. Now back to watching that small gameplay footage.

the few combat segments in that trailer looked exactly like demon soul's gameplay.
there looked to me a cursed knight there in the trailer, also did you notice the stuby armed ball like knight?

project dark is the working title, that wont be the game's name.
its popular for devs to do this.

It does look similar to Demon's Souls but I doubt it's a sequel. I can see this being much more story driven and possible options for coop. I'd be happy if it plays as well as Demon's Souls. That game was brilliant. It made you have to think again in action games and punished you if you didn't.

the sequel needs to have move support. the gladiator game reminded me of playing demons souls.

I don't care if it ends up on 360, I just want it to end up in AMERICA. Pleeeease, From Software, announce a NA release window!!
(P.S. If "Project Dark" is just a working title, then it's not far-fetched using the powers of deduction to think that it may actually be "Demon's Souls 2". Just saying.)

Demons souls controlled my life for so long, NG++++ and i finally had to make my self stop playing, As in disconnect and pack away my PS3, It was like giving up smoking. but finally i got it out of my system. I swear this game was the most rewarding game i have ever played in 20+ years of gaming.
Now this, I foresee the late nights, my wife nagging me, my kids been neglected, turning up to work half asleep.
One issue i noticed from the clip was, it looks like this game is going to have more story, Please NO. Please keep it simple and hard, very hard indeed.
Dont really care if it comes out on 360, but demons souls was unique and i feel it would lose a bit of that by cashing in on two systems.
Cant wait for it.

I don't need to 'bring it,' FFXIII looked and played better on the 360 than it did on the PS3...and that's it's home system.
Peace, Fanboy.
